I've had this laptop since February 2008. It has just died on me and although a few lights come on when I press the ON key- they soon go out and nothing happens. I cannot find any information at all as to what could be wrong with it. I cannot get into the BIOS or boot from a CD. There are no beeps to tell me what the error could be, so I am stuck ! It cost me £400 and I have mainly used it for internet access about once a week since I had it, so I am not best pleased with it ! If the motherboard s faulty then I will have to pay at least £159 for a refurbished one with a warranty for only 90 days, and on top of that there will be a cost for fitting, which will probably make a repair to the MOBO unrealistic. I guess a new MOBO will be much more than £159 so if its faulty then the Laptop is scrap. What a waste of money !
I had this laptop as a birthday present nearly two years ago, it's still here, and working just as well as it did the first day I had it. I brought it grade2 (reconditioned) for just under £400 as far as I remember. I'd never had a laptop before so I was amazed at the size of the box! The only let down to this laptop is the charger, after nearly two years its finally started to break inside - although this can quite easily be fixed with blu-tac :)
Friends and family have had newer laptops since and all seem to be a struggle to use, either the keyboard isn't as reactive or the mouse pad isn't as fluid, it's really quick despite all the crap I have installed on here! All in all I'll be sad when I have to get rid of this laptop, it's the best one I've used, even compared with newer models.
My husband brought me this laptop after i decided that i needed something more easy to carry about than a desk top. I was about to embark upon a new college course and thought that a laptop would be easier for me to write my notes up and have everything organised. It worked really well to start with and i was impressed with the speed of the laptop and the length of the battery life without having to charge it. Since it was purchased in 2007/8 the battery life only last approximately 1 hour before it needs to be charged again. Although some depreciation of battery life is expected over time, i didn't expect it to drop from over 6 hours to 1 hour. Needless to say it still is a very nice laptop and is sufficient for my needs now as i only use it for organising home life and surfing the internet.
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515
This is a really great laptop. I orginally bought this laptop as a replacement for my dell laptop, which after 18months I began to have problems with. I decided to go for a Fujitsu Siemens, as I have heard how reliable they are as a company and especially for computers.
I have found that with computers, they better quality the make is the quicker they tend to be and the longer they last at that speed. For example a £500 sony viao would be better for longer than an acer laptop, even though they may be off different specifications.
This laptop for me has been great, quick and good quality, with some useful built in programmes already installed, although some other ones that are completly pointless and I have had to remove.
As for windows Vista, it is awful compared to XP, but I am getting used to it now, after a long-long time adjusting. I would reccomend getting windows 7 on it, just to avoid getting Vista.
This spec is enough to do pretty much anything you could need to do on a laptop, short of really heavy duty video editing, which only experts would do. For your average user, this is a great laptop and will last the test of time.
Out of all of the laptops I've worked on, I am most impressed with this.
The keyboard and "mouse" are easy to use. There are two fully-functional, free, USB ports which is very useful when I want to put songs onto my iPod!
I've had the laptop for over a year now and I've got no complaints. It's got heaps of memory and the processor is very fast.
This is obviously slightly old now so I wouldn't pay too much for it.
Another thing to consider is the keyboard. I accidentally spilt diet cola on the keyboard and unfortunately I had to pay £50 for a new one. I don't think keyboards should be that expensive!
Apart from that it's brilliant. It came with Windows Vista and I love the new improved classics like Solitaire and Freecell.
I'm also impressed with the quality of sound you get from it. I couldn't believe how clear it was when I first got the laptop.
Having fallen in love with this laptop when it first come out i knew this was the one i wanted, I have never purchased a laptop before though so did not really know what to look for other than comparing specifications in the store and going for the better one.
This laptop at the time costed around £550, which i think was a fair price.
It does run very smoothly due to the 2GB Ram, the vista is easy to use once you get used to it if like me you have only ever been used to windows XP.
The screen is a decent sized screen and the battery does last a fairly good amount of time when in Balanced or Power saver mode.
The only downside to this laptop though is that in less than a year of owning this my charger had stopped charging the laptop due to the wires breaking inside.
Luckily my laptop was still under warranty so i returned it to comet and what aload of hassle that was.. I had to give the seriel number for them to be able to send off my old one to recieve a new one, now the seriel number is supposed to be on the bottom on a little white sticker and my sticker was a brand new pure white sticker - nothing on it!!
Despite having my full reciept comet still did not want to help and therefor i had to call Fujitsu myself and was told not all laptops are supplied with seriel numbers and that they will make me a dummy model.. but it is not permenantly mine its only temporary!!
So if my laptop was to ever be stolen there is no way of me ever getting my laptop back again!!
Cut a long story short, i recieved my charger 3 weeks after the repair went in to comet and was supplied with a new charger.. less than a year later this new one has now split too and is beginning to be faulty again.
They do not make these very well and once you have gone out of your warranty these are a costly replacement at £65 every time!!!
This Fujitsu Siemens laptop is yet another one from the amilo range. This Amilo Pi2515 model has great design and great build quality as well as being reasonably priced.
The design of this laptop is great, I personally think it's the best amilo laptop Fujitsu Siemens have made so far, and I think it will shape how they design other laptops in the future because it really is good looking.
What I like to see in laptops is more than one colour tone, this one is no exception to that fine rule, as it combines black and silver in its outer case, which makes it look a lot cooler and sleeker than it would if it was all just one colour.
This laptop runs very fast, it can handle the most demanding programs and software as well as the newest games too. This is because of its great 2 gb of installed ram in the laptop. This laptop also has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor which helps run all those programs very quickly and without wasting time loading.
The hard drive in this laptop is fantastic too. It delivers a very impressive 200 gb of hard drive to store all of your data on, and to be honest I doubt anyone will ever need to own more storage space than that, well I know I wouldn't.
The screen size of this laptop is 15.4 inch, which is the average size of a laptop. This is about the size you would want if your just using a laptop for internet browsing, doing work on and playing those occasional games and videos. However if you like to watch a lot of videos on your laptop you might wish you'd bought a laptop with a 17 inch or bigger screen as this may be just too small for you.
However video quality on the screen is good and after downloading 4od and playing videos off you tube and other sites I never once had to wait for the videos to load, they begun immediately and played all the way through without pauses which is really good.
The battery life of this laptop can last nearly 4 hours of use, this is great and I was very impressed with this as it doesn't really boast portability.
Its weight is 2.8 kg which isn't too heavy to carry around, however if you want a laptop to arry around a lot then after a while this might get a bit heavy for you.
This also has a 4 in 1 card reader built in, this is a fabulous feature to have as it saves a lot of time and effort to get all those pictures off your cameras. Also it saves money if you were to purchase one of these as it could cost over £20.
The best thing of all is how much you'll be able to get one of these for. With a little shopping around you should be able to pick one of these up for about £450. Yes that's £450 for a 2gb of ram and an 200 gb of hard drive laptop, with great design quality too which is just an amazing price for a laptop.
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515
Fujistu Siemens is not a well known brand in the world but it has some good range of products in notebook series that can really compete with some notebook giants. Computer industry always going to upgraded with latest technology and research so it is very difficult to survive with any one model for long. But now every manufacturer adopting latest technology day by day and giving a better featured product to its customers.
Now the Fujitsu Siemens has a good featured notebook in Amilo series and I will discuss here its features and performance with advantages and disadvantages also.
First of all have a look on its processor and it has Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor with 2 GHz of clock speed. Front size bus speed is about 800 MHz and L2 cache is 2MB. It is a multicore processor with 800 MHz bus speed and sufficient enough to run latest applications. But its L2 cache size is slightly less than compares to its rivals it has only 2 MB. 3MB cache is considered good but there is no problem with 2MB also. It can provide good speed with 2 MB also.
It has good and latest version of chipset with Mobile Intel GM965 Express, it is good for having Aero experience in Windows Vista. So there is no problem with its chipset also it is good and better for latest applications.
If we consider its internal memory size in terms of RAM than it has average memory size with 2GB DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz of speed. Here the point is that it has 667 MHz of speed and the processor has 800 MHz of speed so that it will be better to provide good speed memory also with 800 MHz better speed memory. Memory size is also something less and it should be about 4 GB for this kind of notebooks. We might consider graphics memory also with its RAM so that we can take good decision with its memory size and I will discuss further about its graphics memory, but that is also something having traditional capacity.
Internal storage capacity is good enough with 250 GB - Serial ATA-150 hard disk drive and almost all notebooks have this type of storage capacity. but the point is that some manufacturers also providing SSD drive which is excellent in terms of DATA security but that is very costly and available in average low storage capacity but if you think that your DATA is more important with compare to cost than it will be better to have SSD drive in your notebook. There is no provision in this notebook to upgrade this hard disk in SSD drive.
Notebook contain traditional Intel GMA X3100 PCI Express graphics card with about 384 MB of total shared memory. It is not a good graphics card for notebook but the better solution can be provided with better dedicated memory card. Here this notebook completely failed to compete with latest graphics enabled notebooks.
There is no new about battery back-up it has traditional 6-cell Lithium Ion battery and there is about 2 hours of back-up time. Every manufacture calming that 6 cell battery can provide 305 hous of talktime but practically it is remains about 2 hours.
All other features are common with compare to other notebooks like Optical drive, networking, audio, and display size is in popular series that is about 15'4" wide screen. Operating system is also same as Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium.
Over all it is average notebook and price is slightly high. This notebook doesn't have good graphics memory and battery back-up. Average notebook at all.
Updated with a lot more detail.
This is a very good-value laptop. It is relatively inexpensive, at about £550, but comes with a good feature set, reasonably fast dual-core Intel processor (1.8 GHz), but the 2GB of RAM means it will actually run surprising fast with some more memory intensive software (e.g. photo-editing software). It also comes with a large disk drive (minimum 120 GB but larger ones are also available) It seems robust and well-made although I have mostly used it at home and have treated it carefully, so I haven't really tested this assumption. The screen opens and closes fairly smoothly and doesn't feel fragile like some cheaper models, although I still treat it carefully because I have had laptops in the past that in later life have started to flex near the hinges.
The Fujisu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515 has Microsoft Vista home premium installed, which has been surprisingly robust, rarely crashing. Vista Home Premium provides a good feature set to cover most of my non-business needs, without needing to pay the extra for the more advance versions of the software. I use Apple Macs as my work computers. Vista is not my preferred operating system as I have been using unix for almost 20 years, so I would prefer either Linux or Apple Mac OS X which are both based on unix instead of Microsoft DOS, but most people however will be very familiar with Vista.
The finish and feel of the casing are good when compared to the cheapest of it's competition, with dual colour, silver and black, casing that makes it seem slimmer, although not as stylish as some more expensive models such as my Apple MacBook nor as indestructible as my old IBM T42. The keyboard also has a reasonable "weight" to the keys, which don't feel flimsy, as can be the case with cheap laptops. I find the touch-pad annoying. It is too sensitive for me and the tap to select function gets triggered all the time when I don't want it to. This can actually be adjusted or turned off, but I haven't found the right settings yet, for me, and I share this computer with someone else who finds these setting almost perfect. Plugging in a mouse, of course, resolves the problem completely.
The screen is very clear, sharp and bright and a good size, 15.4", which makes it big enough to use for photo-editing etc. but without being too big to carry. Battery life is not great, often lasting less than 2 hours, but acceptable, and a spare battery would be a good idea if using it away from a power socket.
Overall the Fujisu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515 laptop it is a very good package that looks and feels a cut above many similarly priced laptops.
If you had the decesion of buying that notebook , you are so right , this laptop has many several advantages , they are alot , so I'll tell you about them .

SIEMENS ALWAYS ON TOP .
Avoid this brand at all costs. I purchased an Amilo in late 06 (previous spec to this model). After just over 12 months it completely failed (reported by qualified engineer as motherboard component failure). I did not consider a 14 month old lap top was 'fit for purpose' and after much battling the retailer replaced it with this model. Two months after getting a brand new 2515 it too has failed in a similar way. It looks like another battle with the retailer as I now want a refund or replacement alternative brand. One important point from all this, dont be fobbed off by the retailer saying it is the manufacturers responsibility. It is NOT,and whether or not it is inside the 12 month manufactuerers warranty, it the RETAILERS RESPONSIBILTY not the makers, any warranty the maker offers is additional to YOUR RIGHTS under the Trades Description Act.
The Amilo 2515 is a very good laptop, and cheap with that. At just under £400 the Amilo comes with a 2GB RAM and a massive 160GB hard drive.
I have found the laptop to be very reliable, as was to be expected from a Fujitsu Siemens. The battery life is very long for a cheap laptop, I have had it unplugged - on power saver - for 3 hours whilst watching a movie and the battery was still on 20%. I cannot imagine how long it would last if one was doing something simple such as word processing!
Before buting the laptop I thought it would be fairly slow, despite the 2GB RAM, because of its Operating System being Windows Vista. However it was now, and 6 months along, it is one of the fastest laptops I have ever come across and once something is clicked on it will load immediately.
I have found the laptop to be fairly portable, it is slightly on the heavy side, but not too awkward. I have accidently dropped it once and still it remains in perfect condition.
This is a fantastic laptop, i used it for my advertising business and it was cheap, versitile and effective. It could handle new installations with ease, and the 2gb RAM comes in so handy when using multiple programs, and it makes everything run so much faster and smoother.
It has a huge hard drive and i have lots of work things, and i still cant fill it up even to half, with all my finances! It was practical for what i needed and it came at a price that was amazing for the spec it has, and i couldnt have asked for anyhting better. The screen is really clear so i could see perfectly, and it was like my designs were prinited and i could see them through my own eyes, and it is crystal clear for other things as well. Although i dont use it much for music, when i make animated presentations with audio clips, they sound crisp and clear, like they were from a proper set of speakers.
It is well built and very reliable. I have had it for a year and 2 months and the only tiny problems have been solved by restarting it.
