There are quite a lot of good things about this laptop; it looks good, with sleek lines and a nice standard of finish. In fact it looks much more expensive than it is. It is also form a very well-regarded manufacturer - which is largely why I chose it. I was looking for a good and portable home PC without paying the prices that the Fujitsu business notebooks seem to command (and which many of my work colleagues use).
The model I chose was slightly upgraded - it has a choice of operating systems on first installation (I chose Windows XP but Vista was also available) as well as a larger 250 GB hard drive and 2 GB of RAM.
3 years on and the cracks have well and truly started to show. The DVD drive is almost useless - it no longer writes anything (CD or DVD) and is painfully slow to play any disc that is put into it. The battery life has been poor from the start - around 1 hour maximum. These are not critical for me - the DVD problem is a nuisance more than anything and the battery life issue is not a problem to me as I use it at a desk almost all of the time.
The biggest problem for me is the speed. This PC is slowwwwwww. The fan is operating most of the time and the processor gets very hot (I installed a small free utility) so I imagine that this is related to the lack of speed.
Currently looking to "upgrade".
This is the computer that is currently being used in my household (by three people including myself). I bought it over 3 years ago at around Euro1600 and its still going strong. However, unless you are on a budget, I wouldn't recommend it!! I bought this particular brand as Fujitsu was the leading brand at the time and I had heard great reviews on the brand as a whole. Fujitsu as a whole are cheap but in my opinion being cheap isnt necessarily a good thing as quality tends to be forgotten in the making!
This is a large laptop, with a 15 inch screen and regular sized keyboard, with an inbuilt mouse. There are features for usb insertions, adaptors, and a dvd/cd rom. It is essentially a business laptop, with all the features that you would need, including a detachable charger, making it mobile and easy to carry in a laptop bag. The front features inserts for audio attachments such as speakers or headphones, as well as a microphone jack. The screen is my favourite feature as it is wide enough to watch movies, play games online etc comfortably in comparison to the smaller netbooks etc.
It has a 3gb ram which makes it run quick in theory. However I am noticing lately that it is beginning to slow down a bit and I dont even have many files saved on it as I save most to my external usb. It has 250gb of storage space, which is your going to be storing a lot of music, movies, photos and games on, then well, your going to need it. I havent used a fraction of this though as I store all my files externally. The slowness could be because of age though as we have had it now for a few years. It runs especially slow when a few programmes are open at the same time but that is too be expected and happens on all laptops I have used.
The battery is easily removed but it is attached so snug that you would not be aware of its presence. The battery life was a disappointment to me....hugely. Fully charged and unplugged, the laptop will shut down after only two hours. Compared to others of the same brand, this is extremely bad. I find that I have to use it whilst it is still plugged into the charger or else I would be constantly watching the battery life.
In relation to in built systems, it is a windows vista office, which wasnt ever meant for home use. It has open office on it, with word, excel etc but it is much more handy to have microsoft office as it is compatible with many computers nowadays and opening attachements to emails sometimes I find that they wont open as they are not compatible with my system...#Annoying!! With the vista office also, you cannot play games unless they are online ones, which is another minus!!
As a whole I am quite disappointed in the laptop and would give it a 5/10! It is quite heavy so could not be carried around as easy as others. The battery life is poor and it runs slow sometimes. However, at Euro1600 it is cheaper than many of the same size. It looks good too which is a plus.
My parents bought me a 'Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile V5535' for Christmas over 3 years ago. It is the first laptop that I have ever had and I still have it now. It is a very reliable laptop, which lasts a long time! It has brilliant features and comes with a range of different programs built in (like games) if you are buying for a child and don't want to use the internet. It is a stylish laptop which is incredibly easy to use. There are 3 USB ports, so you can plug in additional items such as speakers or USB sticks all at once. The sound on the laptop is good quality and there are keyboard commands to turn the sound up, down and to mute it. There are also keyboard commands for brightness, video, full screen and wireless settings. I would recommend this to first time users of laptops.
I upgraded my mobile phone about a year ago and received this laptop as a free gift and I have been very impressed so far.
I believe this costs around £300 now which is a good price for what you get.
I would say it was suited to someone who will use it for casual use and for work.
The laptop feels robust but not bulky, and it looks sleek and smart.
It has a 15.4-inch widescreen and a full-sized keyboard.

I find the laptop very easy to use and have never had any problems with it.
I think this is a great laptop for a student or someone who wants it for casual use and it is a great price.
i got given this laptop after a family member had upgraded to a newer model. i find that its very easy to set up and run im not a huge fan of laptops or computers as i havent got a clue but this one was easy to understand. i must admit its a bit slow and i need things doing very fast so that is a downside. also it does crash alot when you try to do more than one thing at a time. however it does store my music ok and play ok only problem for me is the volume isnt great and sounds quiet to me. this laptop also gets very warm very quickly and has burnt me many a time and after it does this it tends to crash. the wireless adapter isnt great for the price and compared to other laptops this doesnt meet with what else is on the market. overall its a good laptop if you are buying for your children or just wanting something to surf the net via cables
I love this laptop, the first one we had we bought on a very small budget so got a second hand reconditioned one. It was still a fujitsu but an older model, I was that impressed that I knew straight away what make I was looking for.
There was some variable prices on these laptops we got this one from staples but the same computer in tesco was about £5.00 more expensive but you have to weigh up having 300 ish tesco points if you collect them.
The comuter is very fast and loads up quickly, it has huge screen which is very clear. Parts are quite cheap.
I accidentially dropped my laptop on our marble harth and the screen smashed, i took it to a shop and they wanted to charge £200 to fix it, I went on ebay and bought a screen for £80 got my boyfriend to fix it and it saved a fortune.
Leaves a little to be desired but is ok, it will last about an hour and a half once fully charged.
I am not a computer wizz but I love this computer it's so easy to use even for me.
This laptop is easy to use and operate. Anyone from basic user to advanced can use this to their advantage. It comes with Vista which is a good operating system but still doesn't compare to it's XP counter part. Vista is very much like the ME version, no-one is quite sure why it was created yet it's what is now more widly available.
Microsoft Office needs to be installed but other than that installation is easy and ready to go. Any version of Microsoft Office can be used, I'm still on the 2000 edition which works well with this laptop but newer versions are available and with it being Microsoft I imagine it will work just as well and is the best package to use for this laptop
It has internet compatability which can be used both at home and on the road. Firefox is the recommended browser to use these days as Internet Explorer has too many bugs in it and it's the platform more preferred by most web developers. However, both are available on this laptop.
Three USB ports are available on the laptop, which come in handy with photos or flash drives which install themselves automatically when they're plugged in, however, because the USB ports are so close together it's usually only possible to use two USB's at the same time as there's simply no room for all three at once.
There's loads of hard drive space as well for extra programmes that you may want to install, space can be taken up quite quickly though so an external harddrive might be advisable.
The laptop is reliable as well. It hasn't broken down or encountered any errors and minor problems can easily be fixed by the user.
For the price it's a decent laptop that is good for students, office workers or for personal use and is an all round good machine.
I recently bought this Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5535 from ebuyer for £300 including vat. I had been looking around previously for a new laptop, but nothing too expensive, as I just need a cheap simple one to use until I can purchase a better one.
After looking around for a few weeks I came across this one on this site, I looked around for the same laptop and because I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else, I bought this one from them.
It took just over 3 weeks to arrive and it arrived safely and In fully working order.
The design of this laptop is ok, like I say this isn't anything special but it's a great laptop if you want great value for money. It looks quite business like, meaning it's a bit basic, however it wouldn't look out of place in a teenagers bed room either.
Its really portable too, it only has a 15.4 inch screen however if you do want something to carry around with you through most of the day, this is a great thing. Also it only weighs 2.7 kg which is really light for a laptop.
It features an Intel Celeron M 530 / 1.73 Ghz processor which runs the 1 gb of ram installed. Most laptops with 1 gb you would expect to cost at least £400, however you'll get this one for a great £300.
This ram can even be upgraded to a maximum of 2 gb, however this could be quite pricey and iv had a look round and I couldn't even see any to buy.
This laptop has a basic 80 gb hard drive, which is quite a lot but quite a few people might want more storage space.
Altogether this laptop runs quite fast, and its putting me on finely.
The only bad thing I can point out is that some programs can run quite slow on it, also games can run slow on it too. I have tried some old games on it and they seem fine, however some of the newest ones just slow down so much, and you just get so frustrated with them.
The screen is of really good quality though, so movies do play good on it, I have found my self downloading 4 OD recently and everything I have watched so far has played without pauses and has been great quality too.
The specification says that the battery life will last 1.33 hours however don't really expect to get much more than an hour out of this laptop.
Altogether this is a good laptop, but if you want something mainly for gaming than you would be really disappointed if you bought this, thanks for reading, and if you are interested try looking at the ebuyer site for this laptop, and many more.
Over the past few months my son (14) and my daughter (10) have both become increasingly interested in the computer. They are both very much into BEBO and MSN and my son is using the computer more and more for his schoolwork. This is now causing no end of hassle! as I too enjoy using the computer frequently and believe it or not so does my hubby! We now find ourselves hovering while someone is on the computer and when that person happens to move it's a mad dash to see who can reach the chair first!
As neither of the kids had asked for anything specific for their Christmas just "surprises" we decided to buy them each a laptop. We just wanted basic models at a reasonable price, nothing at all fancy for their first computer. After scouring many shops and the internet and being completely bamboozled by technical information and sales pitches we decided to opt for the Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5535 from Staples at £299.99.
I will give you the following technical information, which may be useful to someone but I personally really don't understand at all. I'd prefer to spend more time telling you about the actual performance of the laptop.

Well packaged with polystyrene to hold neatly in place in a brown box, along with the laptop came the power cable, instruction booklet and 2 back-up discs.
My first impressions were good. This is a really nice looking laptop with a black base and a dark silver/grey lid. It has 4 little rubeer feet on the base to stop is sliding about during use. It is easy to open with a sliding catch at the front. On the left hand side of the laptop there are connections for the power supply, the internet (if you don't have a wireless connection and an external monitor if required. To the front are connections for a microphone and also headphones and to the right are 3 USB ports. The keyboard is black and the screen is great being 15.4" and widescreen.
Set-up was really easy, although took a bit longer than the suggested 20 minutes, I would say overall set-up probably took about 1 hour. Once plugged into the power the instructions for set-up appeared step by step on the laptop screen and were very easy to follow. We already have wireless broadband and again connection to the internet was also very easy, the only information I needed was a reference number from my router.
These laptops have basically been on every day since Christmas for about 4 - 5 hours per day and to date have performed very well. My daughter uses her laptop for storing her photographs, so far she has over 700 stored on her computer, the internet and playing games. Performance is very good, internet connection is good with good speed. My son uses his laptop for storing music, he has over 30 albums stored on his laptop, which he listens to all the time, he also stores photographs and also enjoys the internet. I have had no complaints from either and certainly have not experienced any problems at all.
Battery life is probably not very good for someone planning to travel with their laptop as we have only really managed to get 1 hour from a fully charged battery, but again these laptops were not bought from travelling so again suit the purpose they were bought for.
The kids love the keyboards and both find typing with them very easy, although I personally don't like the keyboard, I find the keys too close together, but I am a medical secretary and type all day using a desktop, so it's just not what I'm used to.
The touchpad mouse took a bit of getting used to but the kids and myself all find it very easy to use and navigate around the screen, the kids now even prefer this kind of mouse.
This laptop comes with Windows Vista Home Basic pre-installed this is the only complaint I would have with this laptop. It hasn't really caused too many problems but as the name would suggest it is VERY basic. Although the laptop comes with a DVD rewriter with Vista Basic you can only copy DVDs, you can't watch them through your laptop. This was a bit disappointing for the kids as the large screen is a great size for watching a DVD in bed but we were able to download a driver from the internet for a couple of pounds, which now allows them to watch DVDs through their laptops. Another problem we encountered with Windows Vista Basic is that with it being a new system some hardware won't work with it. My daughter got a digital camera for her Christmas and although all the software is installed on the computer it won't let you upload photos from it, as it will only work with Windows 2000 - XP.
I would definitely recommend this computer for a first time computer for an older child, teenager or even an adult just starting out. It is very easy to use, looks good, has a good-sized screen and performs very well. Great value for money but I would probably recommend upgrading to Windows Vista Premium, although we have managed to download all the extras we needed very easily from the internet all for a couple of pounds.
Thanks for reading and I hope it has been helpful.
