Reassuringly Expensive? (Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook P1610)
Member Name: luggage
Advantages: Compact, good battery life Disadvantages: costly This is a small piece of kit, and is therefore quite expensive. If size is not important, then for goodness sake buy something bigger and an awful lot cheaper. However, I need to carry this in my arms all day everyday, and the small size and weight makes this very easy. The screen is nice and bright, and even in direct sunlight is easily viewed - at the right angle. The battery life is not bad, with the standard battery lasting around 2.5 hours with the screen at full brightness, and if you shell out for the larger battery you can get about 5 hours. There are 2 usb ports, and a vga out allowing you to add a keyboard, mouse and monitor for when you need to be stationary and need that more stable feel, as the keyboard is understandably a bit small for regular use. The main problem I encountered was that the bluetooth did not work out of the box and I had to download and install the drivers for that myself. The other problem I have with this unit is that there seems to be virtually no protection for the circuitry underneath the keyboard, and I therefore think it would not take much getting under the keys to cause problems. Other than this, it is a nice lightweight unit, with pretty good battery life and a decent enough screen. The cost is its major drawback, but that is always the case for small technology! Summary: A nice lightweight unit, with pretty good battery life that is very expensive for its performance.
