Advantages: great portability, not affecting the speed of the laptop .
Disadvantages: may be too big and heavy for some people to carry around .
This is the HP Compaq Business Notebook 8510p. When a laptops got the word "business" in its name, then its got a lot to live up to. It either must be very portable or very fast and looking down at this one, I wasn't sure if it would be either.
Its made by Hp Compaq, who have been making laptops for a number of years now however most people will probably know HP better for their printers they make.
There first laptops started off big and bulky and put them behind in sales of their competitors however they are now starting to creep up the market again as they begin to make newer, sleeker laptops for everyone's needs.
The laptop looks quite basic, its all black however its flat and squarish design makes it look quite cool rather than looking like a cheap basic laptop.
With a Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor running at speeds of 2.5 Ghz, this is where the "business" side of the laptop kicks in. It has 2 gb of ram too, and loading times are very fast indeed.
There's also the ability to upgrade this to 4gb of ram if you want too, however its very fast already and I doubt that there will be many who need this.
The hard drive is 160 GB, not too bad, however I would have liked to see it with at least 250 GB so that your definitely going to have room to store everything you need on it.
This laptop has a 15.4 inch tft screen, this screen is also active matrix, this is being used by so much more laptop manufacturers nowadays as it makes the screen lighter, therefore making the laptop lighter, is makes the image quality so much better than a normal TFT screen and it also makes the response time a lot better, which makes videos look sharper, photos look sharper and game playing look better than ever before.
The average screen size on this laptop, obviously makes it the same size as some of the larger laptops, and you would think that having made it for portability, then the screen size would be a little smaller to make the laptop smaller, easier to carry around and a lot lighter.
It doesn't make the laptop too heavy though, its still under 3 at 2.8kg and although a lot heavier than a lot of other portable laptops, it is easier to do work on a full sized screen and full sized keyboard.
One thing not letting down though, it the battery life. It has a fantastic 5 hours of on going use. This is good to see on a laptop with a bigger screen than a lot of the other portable laptops with smaller screens. This is mostly due to its 8 cell lithium battery whereas most laptop batteries only have 6 cells.
This laptop is most suitable for anyone who needs a fast and efficient laptop when on the move. If your not too bothered about the size of the laptop and are more focused on how easy it is to do work on then this is great for you.
What the laptop isn't good for, is anyone who just needs a really portable laptop to do the odd bit of work on. If your not going to be using this a lot on this move, then it may seem a bit heavy for lugging around all the time and you would be far better off with something a lot smaller to take around with you.
You would be able to get one of these fro around £700, and they will get cheaper after they have been out for a bit. This isn't too bad a price for such a fast and very portable machine.
As mentioned above, I do recommend it if the work you do on your laptop comes before how big it is for carrying it around. Its very fast, it looks pretty stylish and it has fantastic battery life. Its another great laptop from HP, and deserves to have the "business" name put in it.
Summary: Its called business for a reason
