HP laptop not sauce

Advantages: Good reliability
Disadvantages: Touchpad is a pain
It took me a good while too choose this laptop, I wanted the best for my budget, I use my laptop everyday and needed reliability and needed to handle large graphics processing.
First think I noticed about this laptop was the design, almost all the silver areas are covered in a prism pattern with the exeption of the hanges, this looks great and have had a few compliments regarding this.
Start up is good and quick, first thing I did was make a back up disc well 4 DVD discs are actualy needed for this, you are promted to do this every time you start up until you do, just follow the instructions cant be easier, there is a partition on the hard drive with a back up but this wont be any good if the laptop wont actually start, windows 7 64bit is pre-installed.
The processor is an AMD PhenomII N830, this is 2 Ghz triple core, this will tick over at about 25% usage to about 50% of its power when say listening to music whilst surfing the internet, when Im using software that does large amount of processing, say editing large RAW image files it only goes to just above 50%, with no freezing or gliching, this is a good quick processor.
The RAM suplied is 3GB DDR3 but this can be upgraded to 8GB, most of the time my memory sits at 50% so I dont need more, there are downloadable widgets that can be used to keep track of the usage.
The laptop has a 15.6-inch High-Definition LED HP BrightView Widescreen Display this is powered by an ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics card, it will play movies seamlessly and also can be easily connected to a HD TV, this is done with the use of a HDMI cable so no loss of picture clarity.
The sound like most laptops is good but also like most laptops the speakers are rubbish, these are Altec Lansing speakers small output and crackle when up at only 50%, there is a 3.5 jack socket that I use to connect to my Hi-Fi.
The hard drive is a 320 GB SATA (7200 rpm), so its a good size for most users, there is a small loss as it is partitioned, this partition holds the recovery files.
The media player is a LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±RW with Double Layer Support, LightScribe aloows the user to burn an image onto the DVD disc, special discs are needed for this, havent tested this feature but sounds good, I have played about a thousand DVD's or more and as yet have had no problems, no discs being jammed in or failure to write discs, very good.
The battery is also a good one and will last upto 2 hours depending on usage, the battery is a 6-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery.
The touchpad is the biggest letdown, it looks good as it is the same prism pattern and works well, the problem occurs because of two things, on the left there is a small hole by tapping this twice a small light inside will come on to indicate that the touchpad has been disabled this is good if you want it off say for typing a lot but more often than not it get activated by accident, also turning it back on takes a good few taps more than the two required, the other problem is on the right hand side of the touchpad this is a cool idea and lets you control scroll bars or scroll down pages unfortunately it is a pain as I am always touching it by mistake, causes a few problems.
There are a good amount of ports, 3 USB 2.0 one on the right, 1 HDMI connector on left, 1 VGA port, 1 RJ45 ethernet connector, 1 headphone-out, 1 mic-in, along with these there is a 5in1 card reader this will read SD card, MultiMedia, xD Picture, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, the power suply is plugged into the right hand side.
There is also a built in webcam and microphone, this works great with the likes of skype, both the image and sound quality are superb.
All in all this has been a well built good running laptop, the good points outnumber the bad points greatly, the price is very good for what you get I would recommend this laptop.
Summary: Great piece of kit for the money
