I have had this laptop for the past two years and lately have been finidng it very slow but I have gotten a lot out of this laptop.
I paid 650 euro for this in Currys and it was actually reduced 200 euro at the time. Not sure how much it would cost you to buy now.
It has a webcam located above the screen which is great for contacting friends and family abroad. I have often used skype with it and sound and picture is excellent.
It uses windows vista as the operating system and does not include full microsoft office unless you pay extra. Only the basic version which if your used to using microsoft office can be very confusing and you will spend half your time searching for what you need.
It includes a lot of useless junk software that you will most likely never want or use such as movie maker, cd label maker and trust me they are not even worth getting free. You will find this will all PC laptops unfortunately.
I would recommend this laptop if you were planning on using it as a desktop just sitting around at home because the screen is 17" and although this is great when watching videos and pictures it really is heavy to carry around town and even with it sitting on your lap you will be in agony after a while so it is not the most portable laptop out there. I regret not buying a 15" screen because of this.
I wouldnt be great at understanding the specs but as follows:
160GB Hard drive
3 usb ports
I would have liked to have gotten a remote control with this laptop as with another HP i had before but it seems this is more suited to business use and surfing the internet and not very media orientated at all.
The sound is good however and the glossy surface doesnt show fingerprints on the keyboard but on the lid you would need to clean this regularly. The battery only lasts for an hour and a half so your better off just keeping it plugged it.
A lot could be improved but overall its nice and cheap and you will get your moneys worth.
I bought this laptop last january in the sales, what a brilliant buy it was! it lasted up until last month when the screen was smashed, my fault; i fell down the stairs!
This laptop is a must have for all internet users and/or gamers with a fast and powerful processor and a awesome graphics card from FaceBookers to occasional emailer right to the always-online warcraft player this is THE laptop to have and trust me when i say, you cant go wrong with this pick.
With several power options ranging from my personal favorite; High performance through balanced down to Powersaver, for when your on the go this laptop has it all.
And as HP is a well known , well respected and reliegable brand; with such a promising guarantee as standard , your covered for all technical problems , if you come across any that is!
With the option to buy refurbished at a very respectable and low price for such an excellent laptop. I'd say, go for it!
The Bad bits;
With so many nice comments i think i should point out the only problem i encountered with this laptop... the overheating! sometimes i would leave my laptop on, lying on my bed and wake up to find it boiling hot and shut down! make sure you let it vent!!!
I purchased this laptop back in January, and since then it has been put through its paces, at some times being used 16 hours a day between Business and Personal time. Having rigorously tested it, I would rate the HP G70 very highly, it performs well, and my only concern is how hot it sometimes get. There are a few features I particularly like. I am a big fan of the full size keyboard, there is nothing quite like a full size keyboard when working using Word, Powerpoint or Excel. The webcam is of a good quality too and integrates well with Skype and other voice calling programs. The sleek gloss black cover of the laptop looks great, but unfortunately does get scratched easily, and after only removing the protective cover just a month ago, it is already looking a little worse for wear. Its provided with Vista, which I think is a great operating system, despite the negative comments this program has had in the past, the window switching capability is fantastic and the gadget toolbar which hangs on the right hand side works well. I've used the DVD writer and player, and it works well, and with such a large screen, it makes a great spot for watching a movie. Downside is the battery does not last a long time. Obviously a computer of such a size is going to weigh allot and the HP G70 does not disappoint.
After buying this Laptop around 4 months ago, it has been faultless in all this time. I had never previously bought an Hp, and this one did not disappoint.
The Laptop has a very sleak black gloss finish to the top and the screen is a bright 17" widescreen display which has a relatively high definition display producing a great picture quality. It is fast for all of my needs, mainly word processing and accountancy but it will also play all of my games without many issues. It does however seem to struggle with games such as Flight Simulator with the graphics turned up to the highest setting.
It is a relatively quiet machine except when it gets hot and the cooling fan activates, this can produce a gentle hum from the machine and generally kicks in whenever playing a game or watching DVDs on it.
A great feature with this system is the number keypad on the right hand side of the main keyboard which, for any accountants or general number crunchers can be a god send.
The system also utilises a built in Wifi adapter to be able to use Wifi at home or at the office. It does lack the Blu-ray player that other HP model laptops have for not much more in price.
The battery life tends to be around 1 to 2 hours (mostly towards the 2 hours for general web browsing or word processing) depending on what it is being asked to do, which compared to my last laptop is pretty good, this has not degraded in the last 4 months of ownership either. It does come with a built in piece of software which is a Battery health check to test the functionality of your battery which is a nice extra.
A disadvantage with this laptop and from what I understand all HP's is that they do not display the "time remaining" of your battery life and only the percentage of life, which means a bit of estimating on the users part and you find your continually checking to see what percentage is left.
Overall, a good user friendly laptop, lacking in a few areas but mainly solid, user friendly and reliable.
