Advantages: Very reliable, good screen and fairly fast
Disadvantages: No "time remaining" function, noisy cooling fan
After buying this Laptop around 4 months ago, it has been faultless in all this time. I had never previously bought an Hp, and this one did not disappoint.
The Laptop has a very sleak black gloss finish to the top and the screen is a bright 17" widescreen display which has a relatively high definition display producing a great picture quality. It is fast for all of my needs, mainly word processing and accountancy but it will also play all of my games without many issues. It does however seem to struggle with games such as Flight Simulator with the graphics turned up to the highest setting.
It is a relatively quiet machine except when it gets hot and the cooling fan activates, this can produce a gentle hum from the machine and generally kicks in whenever playing a game or watching DVDs on it.
A great feature with this system is the number keypad on the right hand side of the main keyboard which, for any accountants or general number crunchers can be a god send.
The system also utilises a built in Wifi adapter to be able to use Wifi at home or at the office. It does lack the Blu-ray player that other HP model laptops have for not much more in price.
The battery life tends to be around 1 to 2 hours (mostly towards the 2 hours for general web browsing or word processing) depending on what it is being asked to do, which compared to my last laptop is pretty good, this has not degraded in the last 4 months of ownership either. It does come with a built in piece of software which is a Battery health check to test the functionality of your battery which is a nice extra.
A disadvantage with this laptop and from what I understand all HP's is that they do not display the "time remaining" of your battery life and only the percentage of life, which means a bit of estimating on the users part and you find your continually checking to see what percentage is left.
Overall, a good user friendly laptop, lacking in a few areas but mainly solid, user friendly and reliable.
Summary: A reliable, user friendly laptop
