Advantages: built in webcam, 13.3inch small portable laptop
Disadvantages: colour on keys wears off, touch sensitive bar does not work anymore
Purchasing and price:
I bought this laptop 7 months ago. First of all, I would like to point out that it was quite difficult to buy this laptop. I ordered from two different sites but both turned out to be out of stock or discontinued. I finally managed to purchase this from Tesco for £580 much to my disappointment because previous sites were advertising from £450 - 500
Product Appearance:
Firstly I'd like to say that it's not what it appears from the picture on any sites. It's a bronzy/brown colour with a sort of diamond design which you cannot see from the picture. At first, I didn't like it, but then I changed my opinion as I used it more; I think it gives the laptop class. On first look, it's very impressive, the HP logo on the lid illuminates when turned on, and there is a touch sensitive control which appears above the keyboard when switched on too. However, the keys are black and do not stand out very well from the base colour of the laptop. This could be a problem if you cannot touch type, but this isn't so much of a problem for me.
Features:
This laptop is quite good. It has 2GB of installed RAM which is okay, 13.3 inch screen which some people may not like but I personally prefer to have a more compact laptop. Of course I have to mention the fingerprint reader.. it works by password, and the fingerprint automatically enters the password for you, so you have the choice of using your finger or entering the password. I'm very sad to say that the touch sensitive bar at the top does not work very well if at all and i do not use it. I find that when trying to turn the volume down using it, it crashes and keeps making a click noise. The built in webcam is a nice addition but many laptops nowdays have them.
Battery Life:
The battery works for about 3 hours, maybe 4 if the screen brightness is turned down
Quality:
When i first bought it, I thought this would be a high quality HP product and I had heard great things about the company. However, as I've used it more, I have noticed that there is wear on the space bar and the browny-bronze colour has worn away to reveal an ugly black undercoat. Also the print on the A key has worn and smudged. I also sometimes have a problem when i start up, nothing appears which I have learnt requires me to remove the battery and then insert it again.
Other's opinion:
When I took this laptop to work with me, I got compliments from everyone around me at how attractive it looked and just how classy it looked.
Summary:
As a whole. I think this is a great laptop, i use it everyday, and have done for about 7 months and I've owned 3 laptops before (Gateway ML3081B and Toshiba Satellite pro L20) and I think this is by far the best one although the most expensive too. I also get the impression that this laptop is somewhat exclusive because I've not been able to find many people who own this laptop, and when i considered buying it, there were very very few reviews of this laptop and even on this site, this will be the first review on this product.
Summary: individual bronze laptop, best i've ever had so far

- 03/11/09 Nice and informative. I would be a bit disappointed though if it was losing colour on the case and keys. And a faulty touchbar is unforgivable. Take it back. I guess it depends how much you love it? |
