I brought this laptop around a year ago now, I previously had a Toshiba Satellite but it had started to give up the ghost so I thought it about time I invested in a new one. My boyfriend picked this out for me as I tend to pick things for the look of them rather than the specifications of the product. He picked this one out for me and on first appearance I loved the bright red colour. Once we purchased it I decided to have a look into what this laptop could actually do. I've read many reviews on laptops and struggled with all the computer jargon, so i'm going to try and give a detailed review on things that people look for when purchasing a new laptop. Without all the technical jibber jabber.
Display- This laptop contains a 15.6 inch widescreen. It has a LED backlight, with HD bright view. If your unaware what bright view is like I was, it is basically a high glossy, anti reflective LCD screen technology. It promises clearer images, vivid colours, high contrast and reduces the effects of eye fatigue. I have defiantly noticed a difference from my old laptop.
Battery And Battery Life- This laptop contains a 6 cell lithium ion battery, with an average battery life of 3.5 hours. I think this Is quite good but over time iv noticed my battery life diminishing. So maybe this means I need to replace it. You can buy a replacement battery for £26.90 on Amazon. This laptop comes with a 65 watt charger.
Audio And Video- Hp allocates nearly 2GB for the graphics memory (1.92). The laptop has an integrated webcam, allowing the use of Skype and such programs. You can listen to all your favourite music or watch your favourite movies with the aid of the Altec Lansing Speakers. I find the sound very loud and clear, without all the fussing id get on my old laptop if the volume was too high.
Storage- Storage was one of the first things my boyfriend looks for in a laptop, not that I store loads of stuff but its always good to know you are never going to run out. The hardrive on this laptop gives your storage of upto 500GB, which for me is great there is no way I will use all of that.
General- This laptop operates using the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition. When researching I found that this laptop comes with all the following software included... EasyBits Magic Desktop, Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Norton Internet Security (60 days subscription), Windows Live Essentials, HP Recovery Manager, HP Support Assistant, EverNote, Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, HP Games Powered by WildTangent, HP Setup Manager, CyberLink YouCam DE, HP Launch Box, HP Security Assistant. It also comes with Microsoft Office 2010 pre-loaded but you will need an activation key once you've entered the program.
The laptop comes with 3 USB ports, earphone output, a microphone input and a slot for your HDMI cable. Iv found the HDMI port very useful, I pay for a Netflix account so using this I can watch programs and films from my laptop on my TV. There is also a port to enter your SD memory cards, which makes it very easy transferring pictures/ videos or files from other devices.
My Opinion- I'm very glad I purchased this laptop, I love the look of my laptop it has a very professional look to it. I have this in scarlet red but I do believe it comes in an array of colours. With the screen being in HD everything appears very clear and I don't need to use my glasses when on it. The speakers are of a very high quality, no muffling that iv noticed with other devices. I haven't had any problems with this laptop at all so I can only mark it with the highest 5 stars.
My aim of this review was to give everyone who doesn't have an in-depth computer knowledge an easy to understand account of this laptop. If just one person gets some help from it then I've done a good job.
Thanks for reading
We purchased one of these little laptops last year not long before Christmas, and I must say that we are very pleased with it. It has ample storage for our needs, it works extremely quickly for both uploads and downloads, it looks nice too. It has been a pleasure using it. I am not a very technical person when it comes to technology, I don't know what lcd means and I don't have the faintest idea about RAM either. But as I say there comes plenty of storage with this laptop. We have managed to upload 1000's of photos and videos and hundreds of songs. And it still has plenty more room. There have been no issues with the computers functioning and capabilities. The only problem that we have had so far is windows 8. I regularly say that it is too complicated to use, or maybe that is just me being a bit of a technophobe. But when we move the mouse sometimes, windows 8 pops up and takes us to some random feature that comes along with it. And none of us have managed to really find our way round it and we get confused when we do try to use it. But that is not really an issue wit the laptop, that is an issue that we have with windows 8.
The battery life is more than adequate for our use at home. We can regularly use it for 4-5 hours at a time before we have to plug it in and charge it up. We quite often have several internet pages open at once and other operations such Microsoft word. The computers battery life is far superior to my last laptop which would only go for about 1-2 hours long. I don't know whether the 4-5 hours that this hp laptop has would be long enough for some but is great for our family.
The screen is a bright 15.6'' screen. I don't use the computer to watch videos or films often but I must say that the picture quality is quite good. Others may find that the 1366 x 768 resolution is not the best but I would generally watch films and tv programmes on the our television.
I don't think that the laptop is too heavy to carry. I find that it is quite light in its weight. It weighs 2.6Kg which I personally don't find heavy at all. When I carry it or have it sat on my lap for use I barely notice its weight. I don't know what the average weight of laptop is so I can't really give any comparisons.
There are three USB ports, one HDMI port and one slot for headphones and one for a microphone. There is also a slot memory cards/micro sd cards. So there should be no reason why you can't upload from other devices, or download to external devices.
I have found that whenever I load or open an operation on the computer that there is not much of a wait. Usually things have opened with in a few seconds and there are no issues in terms of how quickly things are carried out. Once opened they work straight away. With my previous laptop I would have to wait at least a minute after opening up a programme before I could actually proceed and use it. But wit the HP there are no issues.
Overall this is very nice looking, useful laptop. It works like a dream. The battery life lasts longer than we expected, which is a massive bonus. It has no issues running multiple functions simultaneously. A very useful little machine. I would recommend that others check it out if they are in the market for a new laptop. It was a nice little bargain as we got it in the pre-Christmas sales.
The laptop itself seems to run very quickly compared to previous models I have used, it uses windows 7 which is very easy to use and runs fast and it also starts up and restarts very quickly. It has a nice, large screen with a fantastic display. The sound quality is easily above average. laptop is easy to carry around and size is manageable as well. The battery life on this laptop is also above average.downside are surely mouse keys being bit loose after few months use.gets easily dusty and fingerprints all around so in a month or two it will look like its 6 months or year old system.but has more pros then cons. if you are a student on a budget or anyone else on a budget then this is a good pick highly recommend it.
I've had this laptop for nearly 2 years now, having purchased it from my local currys store somewhat impulsively!!!
I have to say it's probably the best impulse buy I've ever made. I've decided, as I know very little about computer specs and all the technical stuff, I won't bother mentioning all that stuff that I would have to look up anyway!!
What I will tell you is what I use it for and how it serves me...I basically bought it for browsing the 'net, playing my favourite game (football manager - which uses an insane amount of memory for databases etc) and for storing photo's and music. This laptop does all of the above with ease. I have something like 2000 songs and 1500 photo's stored on it, plus my game which my old desktop pc couldn't cope with as it needs so much memory, and it still runs quickly and with no issues at all.
It runs on windows 7, which I've found very easy to use, though It'll have the newer version on if you were to buy one now.
I have also grown to quite like the red casing, although I really wanted a blue one at the time, but currys only had red in stock at the time, and I'm too impatient to wait!!! It certainly looks good, HP is a brand I've used for many years and they have a reputation for reliable and durable products, and it does exactly what I bought it to do, even now almost 2 years later. It gets used pretty much every day, often for hours at a time. The battery lasts well when charged but I generally keep it plugged in anyway.
The only negative I have to share is that it seems to have recently started to get very hot on the underneath when used for a while. I can't say that I have noticed this until the last few weeks, so it can probably be put down to the amount of use it's had over time, and I suspect the fan may need replacing soon, which I imagine could cost me a few quid. My advice would be to try to keep it where air can circulate, rather than on a table which is where I often use it. Other than that it's a great value laptop for anybody.
I used to have an old Dell laptop which always overheated and was frustratingly slow, one day it just stopped working so i spent a long time looking for a new laptop. The HP pavilion G6 caught my attention because it looked stylish and slick, but i wanted to know if it was practical. After some research it looked like the laptop for me so i decided to buy it.
After using the laptop for a while i was very impressed with the cooling system. Unlike my old dell laptop, my HP laptop has never overheated. And i also find it amazing how quiet the fan is, i rarely hear it. I also love the vibrant yet high quality 15.6 inch screen display which this laptop offers. However, the screen has a glossy coating which can be a pain in direct sunlight. The webcam is also good quality and takes no time to set up. The 6GB of RAM also keeps the system responsive and makes the experience very smooth.
The directional buttons used for gaming are very difficult to use, they are too close together and do reduce the gaming experience. I also realized that when i start typing quickly the keyboard begins to flex and shake slightly which can sometimes be annoying. I was also expecting the Altec Lansing speakers to create an amazing sound but their sound is pretty much identical to standard laptop speakers.
I chose this laptop as my Christmas present from my husband as my old Dell was starting to reheat too easily and was becoming unreliable. I use my laptop for my work as I work from home. I chose this laptop in the local Currys store and it cost £245 at a sale price and extra for insurance which was something like £25 a month for 3 year insurance, which I don't think is a lot as they had other models there that cost more money but did not suit my needs as well.
One reason I really liked the HP laptop more than the others that were on display in the store was because it is compact and lightweight but also friendly-looking, which may sound silly to you but when you spend hours staring at a screen you don't want sharp edges, heavy clunking and an annoying keyboard under your hands. I tried the laptop out, the sales assistant let me type a few things on it, and I was sold. The only downside is that it has no CD playing facility, which doesn't matter to me because all my music is on iTunes now, but it may matter to other people. You can't watch videos from DVD on this laptop, although since it has such a small screen I'm guessing few people would buy it for that purpose. Having said that though, the screen is very clear, crisp even, so in some ways watching a film on this laptop's screen beats watching one on an older laptop's larger screen, eg my old Dell.
I love that this laptop is so small and not at all heavy, which means I can easily take it into different rooms in the house and also out with me in a case when I need to work elsewhere. It loads up really quickly, within a few minutes, and the battery lasts for about 4 hours when fully charged so I rarely have to worry about taking the charger with me when I leave the room/house. Also, a single click on the battery icon on the desktop tells me how much time I have remaining and also lets me change the way the screen etc is lit in order to save power if I'm almost out of charge.
The laptop surface is smooth and easy to use and I like how all the letters are slightly curved. The laptop came with a mouse that inserts via USB port but I have never needed to use it as I prefer the touch-pad on the laptop and the two buttons below it for selecting things on-screen. It has 4 USB ports in total which is really useful for me when I need to transfer work to memory sticks or back them up to my external hard drive. I have had a fault however with the keys recently in that the shift keys on both ends stopped working one day, which means that I have to use Caps Lock to capitalise words. I have yet to get this fixed as it will mean posting off my laptop for at least a week, and I do use it every day for work. This is really inconvenient to me. The other issue I will bring up is the battery, which can easily fall out of the bottom of the laptop. I am by no means rough with my laptop but a couple of times I have moved it and the battery has fallen out of the bottom which results in lost work etc. This is a design flaw as the battery slots back in easily but is clearly not so secure that a knock won't make it fall out again.
The desktop is very easy to set up although it only comes with a basic software package which means that proper versions of Microsoft Word and Excel have to be bought separately. Windows 7 is easy enough to use, and although I don't like all the changes I see no point in grumbling since we have to get used to the new versions whether we like them or not.
The laptop has an inbuilt webcam above the screen which gives a good, high quality image. I found it a bit creepy at first- to have it always facing me, I mean, and always on- but I have used it many times now and it is easy to use and saves fiddling with old-style web cams as you can just tilt the screen to get a better view of yourself to whoever you are video-chatting with. The image is always clear and I can't fault it at all. The microphone also picks up sound extremely well and I have not had any problem with sound quality.
This laptop does not have a loud fan, in fact the fan seems very quiet and efficient, as my laptop has yet to heat up noticeably and I have been using it for well over a year now, every day and often for extended periods of time. The laptop still works well after over a year of frequent use, everything loads quickly and as it should, and nothing is difficult to use. My only issues with it are the keys and the insecure battery which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. Despite those problems, I would still buy this laptop again, as I have found it so easy to use and it has not really let me down at alll. (..Yet. Touch wood!!)
I got this after my other one was doing my head in and then I dropped it and chipped it it worked but looked horrid so got this one.
I have had HP items before and find they are very reliable and this laptop is deffinately like that. It's not crashing but has done a few times when I have had tons of windows open but that's my fault trying to do 100 things at once. The system isn't as reliable all the time when I am running on the battery the mouse keeps sticking sometimes, was going to take it back but it stopped doing it but now out of warranty its at it again sometimes but no biggy as I tend to have it plugged in most of the time and its not too annoying.
Battery life is good, lasts about 3 hours unless your watching videos or listening to music or skyping can decrease battery life faster.
Was very easy to install, it gave you a step-by-step guide on screen and told you what to press and what to do, I can usually setup laptops anyway, but this was so straight forward to setup even if I couldn't I would of found this very easy. You just turn it on and follow the on-screen instructions, came with all the necessary items including CDRom installation disc and power adapter.
The laptop is red and looks very stylish and modern, with a red lid and red inside, the keys and plastic surrounds being black make it look rather delightful to the eye. Only problem is finger prints show up too easily on it. But that's not too much of an issue, can always be cleaned.
I have Windows 7 on it and was a bit reluctant to use Windows 7 as I was used to the previous system but its so easy to use and looks great, you can easily change things like colours and backgrounds like before to suit you, it's just as easy to navigate around just looks more modern & stylish and more up-to-date.
The built-in webcam is rather bad compared to others I have had/seen but as I don't use it too often i'm not overly bothered, would be nice for a better camera but people complain they can't see me very well (maybe that's a good thing) and it's blurry at times.
Sound & Video quality is very good, music goes loud enough not club style loud but for a normal person listening to music at home its very good, goes quite loud actually. Would go loud enough for a normal house party or you can always connect it to your speakers or surround sound for higher sound. The clarity of sound I find is very good, I use it a lot to listen to music, watch videos and catch up on TV. The video quality is very good aswell, very clear bright picture.
Overall I find this laptop very good and would recommend it, its very easy to use, looks modern & stylish and has a lot of memory for my needs, its processing is very good but don't overload it with a LOT of windows I have 1 internet explorer, 7 pages on safari, my documents folder, real player, real player downloader and iTunes open and it's working fine for me now.
Highly recommend this laptop but not for the webcam.
I bought this laptop from Curry's around two months ago. I has a lot of problems with it at the start. I set up the laptop in the way that I was instructed to and after a while I was up and running. Initially I have to admit that I was a little daunted at the prospect of using windows 8, but the sleek new design looked fab and after a while you soon pick it up. The computer itself looks great and there is a choice of vibrant colours (I chose Red!). The design is very modern and even has a special function where the direction pad can easily switch from different pages/screens.
However, the problems I started having began when I tried to start up the computer. Every time I wanted to use the laptop I had to wait for 30 mins for it to load updates (or something similar). It would upload to only around 12% and then fail to update- forcing log in. Need less to say this was a long and frustrating process. After a month I knew that this was not just teething problems.
But as the title suggests, I did get the problem fixed- after a lengthy conversation with a very helpful and polite curry's tech support person- and I really love the laptop. The internet is super fast and it looks so slick and cool, while making accessing all the features convenient.
I really love the laptop and all of its new features, but as with everything- make sure you check the store's policies and tech advice (just in case), and don't be afraid to demand the quality that you deserve!
Overall, large screen, comfortable buttons, great look, windows 8, good laptop. But this is not for a first time or inexperienced laptop user.
I was given this laptop as a birthday gift approximately 8 months ago; as laptops go, it's fairly affordable for the specs it holds.
For starters, the purple casing around the laptop looks great - until you touch it. After a couple of times of being picked up and stored, it looks like 20 different people have passed it around because of the amount of fingerprints it picks up but whether this is just the colour, I'm not sure.
It also gets ridiculously dusty, again, this could be due to the colour showing the dust more that a black laptop might.
It has a nice, large screen with a fantastic display and comes readily equipped with windows 7 64 bit, which is a fairly pleasant operating system to use, but it can be a little confusing if you're used to the older windows OS.
It has an above average integrated graphics card, which is good enough for an amateur gamer, playing games such as world of warcraft on lower display settings.
It's 6gb of ram is plenty for most people in my opinion; especially if you want a laptop for nothing but college/uni work etc.
The core i3 processor means that the laptop is a pleasure to use, as you'll probably never have to wait 20 minutes for it to start up and load a webpage.
It has a built in webcam, with the software on the laptop ready to use, along with it's integrated microphone. This makes it a good laptop for anybody using skype or anything along those lines.
The sound quality is easily above average.
Like most newer laptops, it holds a wireless card and a blue tooth device which can be activated or deactivated easily with a key on the laptops keyboard, which has an LED light which shows orange when the devices are inactive, and blue when they're turned on.
The battery life on this laptop is also above average, meaning you don't have to have it constantly plugged into a wall to be able to use it. However, because the battery is only secured to the unit with one lock, it can be very easy to catch it and find yourself walking around with a battery - less laptop.
I am actually typing from this laptop right now! I have had it for just over a year now, and got it for around £450 in pink. I got it for christmas and I have loved it ever since. I thought I loved the dell I had before, but honestly this is the best laptop I have ever had.
WHAT I LOVE
Its beautiful! - there's no denying that. Its really fast as well, even when installing programmes. The keyboard is easy to use, and on my old keyboard the keys were coming off because I must type with quite a bit of force, but they are very secure on this one. Also I was quite worried about the control pad however it is just as comfortable as my dell. I like the top row on the keyboard because I can quickly pause and play my music, change tracks, change the volume and brightness without having to mess about with programmes and settings. I used to use the webcam all the time, but now I have an iPad I don't so much, however it is pretty good and I have never had any problems with it. I haven't even nearly used all the memory on this which is quite an achievement for me! Also, even though I have had this laptop for over a year, I don't have to wait around for the laptop to load up for ages at the beginning which usually happens as laptops age. I can get onto google chrome within 30 seconds of pressing the power button.
WHAT I DON'T LOVE SO MUCH
The battery life. This isn't a major issue for me because I don't usually travel with my laptop and if I do I take my charger with me. Also there is a double tap button on the control pad to disable it, I don't really see the necessity of it.
All in all this is the best laptop I have ever had and I have never had any major problems with it. I would recommend it to a friend, of course.
I own this device the problem is the temperature is rising, causing, re-runs when I'm in the middle of my work, i Changed it with hp tm2 I advise u give it atry ... u can use it as tablet u can hide the keybord and work with the touch screen with pin its very good laptop i can do eny thing with it its not hevy and its stylish...
There were a number of things that attracted me to this laptop. Firstly, and most noticeably, its colour; it comes in a variety of colours but I have it in red, as in the picture displayed here. This drew my attention immediately and makes it stand out a little more from most of the other laptops I considered.
Size wise it's great for the purposes I wanted it for; previously I had a netbook (reviewed here: http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/laptops/dell-inspiron-mini-10/1625884/) and while it suited its purpose well for two years, the time came when I wanted something bigger and more functional. I often watch DVDs or television on my computer and that's a lot easier with the HP Pavilion's 15.6 inch screen.
It's easier to play computer games on, many of which didn't work on the netbook. I'm also surprised by how much faster it is; doubtless this is partly down to it being a new model rather than something I've owned and used almost daily for two years, but it's very impressive.
As someone who doesn't know much about the internal workings of laptops but has a fairly good grasp on how to use them, I've been very impressed with this model so far. It was a reasonable price; the original selling price was far too expensive but I bought it in the sale for around £300, which is very impressive for such a good model. It's also remarkably light considering its size and so it is potentially more portable than it may look.
Another thing that drew me to this laptop was a query I had regarding ethical problems with laptops; being aware of problems with many companies using unethically obtained minerals or slave labour to produce their products, I wanted to ensure that I didn't fuel this behaviour as far as possible. A quick look into these issues revealed that as a company, HP are one of the more trusted technology providers when it comes to ethics. For many people this may not be a priority, but it's certainly an added bonus.
A final way in which this beats my previous computer is in the much extended battery life; it lasts several hours without needing to be plugged in which is convenient.
In conclusion I would definitely recommend this as a laptop, particularly for students.
I bought this laptop as a replacement when my old one was on its last legs. I did quite a bit of research and eventually settled on the HP pavilion. The colour of it definitely also influenced my decision! It's a good size and the battery life is great which means it's easy to transport without having to worry about carrying around a bulky power cable every time.
So far I've been really pleased with how it works. I use it mostly for the internet, and it's absolutely perfect for that. It's really quick compared with my old laptop which really impressed me.
The only problem I've had is that recently it has started getting really hot on the bottom and becomes really noisy as it tries to cool down. It generally does this when I'm watching a show on catch up on full screen, but it doesn't affect the playback of the video or the performance of the laptop so the only real problem is that you can't have it on your lap.
I am a student, and have decided to buy a new laptop to take to university to replace my old outdated one. Obviously being a student, I wanted to shop around to find an affordable yet high performing laptop that would be good for my university work but also that I could use as a general laptop for games, browsing, shopping etc. After narrowing down my search I chose the HP Pavilion g series, with its quick processing speeds and very good quality monitor it just seemed the obvious choice, especially as I got it at a very reasonable price. The one thing that swayed my decision that made this laptop stand out from the rest was the colours. This made it more stylish and they've obviously thought about the aesthetics both inside and out. I chose the purple colour, and with a metallic purple lid and keyboard surround I find it extremely attractive and with the wide range of colours they offer, (silver, red, purple, blue, black) it is suitable for all genders and all ages. I like the effect of the purple interior with a black surround and keypad, which is a very easy keyboard to use, which makes it perfect for university work or other written work that might be completed using the laptop. The software is ideal for anything an average user may need and it is so quick and easy to set up, and the quality of the webcam is excellent, making it perfect for video calling that I like to do overseas with family using skype, and it is also equipped with zoom on the webcam. This is a great laptop and I highly recommend it, and I find it perfect for everything I need it for. Excellent!
I bought this HP Pavilion G6 laptop with a view to having a colourful, contemporary, robust and user-friendly laptop for home use. It's essentially a good budget notebook, not amazing by any means but very dependable and it does the job well.
It has a webcam, a built-in microphone and wi-fi but NO bluetooth. It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and a host of other features such as HP Games, Skype, CyberCam etc. My tip: it's certainly worth spending a little time checking out what is loaded onto the laptop when you boot up for the first time. You may wish to remove some features which you do not intend to use in order to free up memory.
The laptop is medium weight (2.55kg) and has a glossy finish. It appears to be quite durable - the lid is a strong plastic. It looks sleek and modern with its rounded edges and has a similar look to the 'Beats' range. It is available in colours such as deep red or a turquoise blue.
The trackpad is impressively well-designed and one of the best things about this laptop. It is textured, large and a joy to use. The keyboard is full-size and feels comfortable when typing. The speakers are by Altec and are placed at the front of the machine so sound isn't muffled as it is on some machines. I have been quite impressed with the sound which can be personalised to suit your preference.
On the right-hand side of the machine you get a VGA port, an ethernet port and two USB 2.0 ports. You also get an HDMI port and a SD/MMC card reader which is a GREAT bonus! On the left-hand side you have a DVD-RW drive and surprisingly, an additional USB 2.0 port. Pretty useful.
Oh and one last thing - HD videos and images look great on this laptop. Battery life is not bad at 4 hours a after full charge.
A good all-rounder and recommended. It does what it says on the tin.
Hop on the web, organize and share your photos, connect with your friends and family, shop online or get the simple things done. Whether it is for work or play, enjoy the essentials for the everyday.
