IBM Thinkpad R50e

Rating:
Warning: I’m not that technical, so this may not be ideal if you’re looking for specifications, etc! I recently gambled on an IBM ThinkPad R50e, Which I’m writing on now, so better be nice or it may crash. Needless to say, I love my ThinkPad. From the colourful display of “IBM” in the corner of my keyboard to the lights at the bottom of the screen telling me my battery is running low, and I’m currently connected to the Internet. The ThinkPad is aesthetically pleasing, to say the least. When closed it is entirely black, with a coloured “IBM” logo in the corner, while when it is open the keyboard is black an white, with very handy volume controls and the ability to mute ...
IBM Thinkpad i Series

Rating:
to work best is to dangle it by its network lead whilst slapping it gently and chanting 'not today please, i need a break'. Seriously though, this Laptop is about as reliable and well built as Virgin trains. It takes on average 2 attempts to boot (even after repair) and the slightest bit of non standard software e.g. an MP3 player, causes it to hang. Robust it is not. My model is fairly old and came with a Celeron processor, 92MB RAM and a 6GB HD. A reasonable spec for the time and one which should be able to handle a couple of open applications. My advice however is not to do this unless you are just messing about on the web. The keyboard is tiny ...
IBM Thinkpad 390X

Rating:
I own an IBM Think Pad 390 series laptop, which I was fortunate enough to be given as part of the Computers for Teachers initiative. As ICT Manager for the school, I argued the case for me having one to test CD-Roms, write policies, etc. I use it in the same way as I would a PC, it is not exactly now portable as I have more peripherals on it than you can shake a stick at – 3D speakers, roller mouse, headphones, microphone, scanner, printer and digital camera. Also, of course, I leave the laptop on a virtually permanent internet connection. My wife always complains as she never gets to “play” on it – she prefers to play ...
