This is a really really powerful machine, and I don't just mean by computing resources. With hyperthreading enabled the machine has 8 virtual cores and has more RAM than I know what to do with. You might want to upgrade the RAM to 8 Gigs, makes running virtual machines a breeze :-)
I got the ystem update installed as soon as i had the OS and netwoking installed. That pulls down and keeps up to date whatever drivers your system needs.
The only annoying thing is the missing HDMI port :)
BeingSensible: This is also quite heavy, so if you are investing in this, make sure you get good sturty and lightweight bag.
In terms of h/w .. I have stood on mine accidentally, and it just brushed the accident off as if it never happened. Tough little bugger.
BeingSensible: If you install Windows make sure that you either re-install or refresh the installed image back to a previous snapshot. Windows is like a person .. it is the sum of it's experiances and as time goes by it gets burdened, slower and querky. So take my advice, setup proper backups and refresh the machine every 10-12 months and you will have a superfast system forever :)
BeingSensible: One last problem I frequently encounter is that the ventilation/cooling system often gets clogged with dust etc, KEEP IT CLEAN .. or the system gets very hot. Which means three things: (a) You won't want it on your lap :-) ... (b) The system protection logic will slow down the performance and you will have a slow system ... (c) the system will frequently go into standby because of high temeratures making it useless. (btw this is a "sensible" advice for all laptops not just this).
BeingSensible: If you are thinking of a workstation for daily use at home. Don't get that .. yes .. get this. Very powerful and you can tag a large screen to the vide out port and when in a hurry, take it with you.
Recommended for single people who rent and move frequently, easy to move this than moving a desktop.
