I bought this laptop 2 years ago from "Aldi", where it was reduced to £399, and as with anything electrical bought from Aldi it came with a 3 year guarantee.
I bought this to replace my old Packard Bell laptop with a 15" screen. This laptop has a 17.3 " screen and wow what a difference 2" makes, I would never go back to using anything smaller than 17" again. The screen is HD and the picture is so sharp compared to my old Packard Bell.
The laptop comes with windows 7 preinstalled and it is very fast on boot up. It has a 500GB hard drive which is fantastic.
I bought this so that I could get rid of my old laptop and also my big old PC which was taking up a lot of space, I was sort of reluctant at the start about replacing my pc with a laptop, but now after 2 years of using this I do not regret it.
the laptop itself is a little heavy compared to my old smaller one, but it is not uncomfortably heavy. I really like the keyboard layout with numbers not only running across the top but also on a panel at the side laid out like a calculator which I prefer.
The laptop is very fast and never seems to struggle no matter what I throw at it. I have been running up to approx. 20 programs on it at any one time and it has never overheated or slowed down. I also burn a lot of videos using Nero and it only slows a little, which I blame Nero for rather than the laptop, as I have used a few other burning programs and they haven't slowed it down.
the battery life is brilliant, i'm still getting well over 2 hours usage even after 2 years.
I love the fact that it has a hdmi slot which allows my to connect it to my large screen tv.
The built in wifi is really strong and I have never had any signal drop issues.
the only issue I've ever had with the laptop was when one of the keys on the keyboard pops off one day, but because it had a 3 year guarantee, I just phoned medion and they arranged for it to be picked up and taken to Germany and replaced the keyboard, the whole process took 3 weeks which I thought was a little slow, also when it was returned they had set it back to factory settings which meant I had lost all my personal stuff off it, but I can't really blame them as they told me on the phone that they might have to do this, but I decided to take chance that they wouldn't.
so after 2 years I still love this laptop and it still has almost 1 years guarantee left on it, and I would have no hesitation in buying another medion.
Before I went to university, I needed a new laptop. My many hours of work put in over a long period of time allowed me to buy this machine, which I am writing this review on now.
The laptop, as a computer, works fine. The insides do what they're supposed to at an average speed. Nothing impressive, but it does the job. I have many programmes needed for my course, which take up a lot of space, as well as iTunes and a few games, and the laptop handles it perfectly.
I'll say at this point to whoever reads this review, always get a warranty. A brand new laptop, no matter what brand, needs a warranty. I will also say that I appreciate my belongings, so me having a laptop in my hands means that it will be well looked after and handled with care.
Now I'll talk about the outside of the laptop.
A few days after I bought this laptop, I had it sat on my knee at home, Facebooking and whatnot. I lift the laptop to move it, and a little black screw stayed on my knee. This has happened around 10 times up to now, and I'm not quite sure how the bottom of the laptop hasn't fallen off yet.
I am currently missing a 'B' button, the ' button, the 'backspace' button, and the 'down' button. The buttons just started sticking over the times I've had it, and eventually fell off like a black toenail. Obviously the buttons still work, but it's a struggle to type out essays and other things I type.
A month or so ago, I opened my laptop and one of the sides that hold the screen up snapped. It split all of the crack open, so half of my screen can be seen from the side. Sellotape is currently holding it together so that it's still usable.
I've had this laptop for a year now, and it's just been one huge problem. Instead of replacing the keyboard and pretty much the whole exterior, I'm going to replace the laptop and avoid this brand completely for the rest of my life, and urge any other potential buyers to do the same.
