Medion Akoya P6613
Advantages: Cost, processor and memory
Disadvantages: Wifi card, weight
I was looking for a laptop to take to uni last year, however i was rather budgeted in what i could and could not afford, i had about £300 or so to spend at the time, i searched high and low through all the laptops available.
Eventually i stumbled across the P6613 by medion in an argos catalogue, with specs much higher than rival firms i grabbed the offer, personally i have never regretted this decision! Its a great little laptop for what its worth, comes with 4gb ram and a pentium dual core T4200 @ 2.0GHZ, might not seem much but is more than capable of running most high end programs without any problem, The hard drive size was also more than adequate at just under 300gigs for storeing all my uni work and music files. It also has a good graphics card which is capable of running most games although perhaps more suited at strategy and adventure than perhaps cod4 which although it runs will only do so at 9.4fps.
I would not dub this brand as a poor one and think that the build was of good quality and parts for more adequate than rival brands in a similar price band. I wouldnt expect anymore than that from what i paid.
It also boasts a nice 16" screen with a very nice resolution and its matte finish elimantes annoying reflections.
The battery is also rather good and lasts 4 hours which i feel is adequate time for a latop of this calibre.
My only criticsims if i had to make any would be that its rather heavy for a latop at 3kg which really isnt a problem for most and im able to carry this laptop around without any problems, an issue i did have is with the wireless network card which does not include draft N-wifi, which makes the signal a little weaker and harder to pick up. On the other hand the laptop makes up for this in other departments which are much more important in my opinion.
Ok so its not the best laptop on the market, thats a given, but its one of the cheapest and far better than its rivals. I might also add that never buy fromm Dell, the deal might sound good but the parts are extremely basic and of poor quality, in fact two dell laptops have died on me due to powerline faults and a broken hd.
If your looking for a good allrounded laptop this might just suit you!
Summary: Very good laptop at the bottom end of the maket in terms of price.
