Advantages: easy to use, portable
Disadvantages: price
This is a great gadget and im sure if I did own one I would take it almost everywhere I go and try to use it as much as possible, mainly as I would want to get the most out of it due to its high price tag.
First looks of this thing are that it looks like a portable media player. When the keyboards folded in nearly all of the portable device is taken up by its 5 inch screen with only about a cm at either side of plastic.
The keyboard easily folds out and is surprisingly easy to type with. It is nearly impossible to type with normal fingers like on a full sized keyboard. However its so easy to type with your thumbs and straight away for the first time I used this device I could type just as fast with my thumbs only as I can with all my fingers on a normal keyboard which was something the really surprised me.
It is apparently the smallest vista based pc tablet out there at the moment and I wouldn't disagree with that statement at all and it really is an incredible device. However I'm not sure who would part with over a grand to buy one of them.
The tiny pad looks a lot like the click wheel of an ipod and is easy to use, especially on such a small screen you don't really feel as though you need a mouse.
If you do want to use a mouse you could get a small laptop mouse and plug it into the usb port on the base of the device.
Unlike other portable devices this has a fantastic amount of ram. It has 1 gb which runs the device quickly and efficiently. Also unlike other portable devices this one has a processor running at 1.6gh which is really good for portable device as they tend to save power rather than increase the tablets performance.
It also has a pretty incredible 80 gb for something of its size. This is enough in a full sized laptop for me and so is definitely enough in something I would do most my work on anyway.
Its battery life is something I feel could be a lot better, especially seen as it only has a 5 inch screen so you would expect it to last a little longer. It will still last a quite long 3 hours but I put this down the better processor speeds which do give better performance overall however does limit the battery life.
3 hours is by no means bad however I would have liked to see more and at least 5 hours like some its other serious comp enders out there that are getting up to 7 hours of battery life.
What I would do however is just buy a spare battery pack as there only small and when ones run out just replace it to have effectively double the battery run time.
The best thing about this is that it runs on the full version of vista, it has a fantastic screen and even better design. Perhaps the tiny keyboard could be a problem for some but for me I found it really easy to use and get to grips with.
It is very expensive though however if you have the money then I couldn't think of a better portable pc tablet out there at the moment.

- 11/05/09 Personally I prefer the Sony Vaio UX range ;-) |
