Advantages: Perfect size and weight, fast processor - adequate to deal with most things

Disadvantages: Warranty and insurance cover may seem expensive

Now not knowing a lot about laptops, as I have never been fortunate enough to own one, I can go on nothing but the specification to judge whether it is good or not. I would have no idea of comparing the different makes available.

The day came when my dad decided to buy himself a laptop and learn how to start a computer, type up his letters etc. I have tried teaching him how to use my pc but he had no real interest to learn. Then a friend of his mentioned that he had bought a laptop and it was much easier to learn on, so he decided he'd give it a try.

Off we went on the search to find one, not too expensive but adequate for everything he might use it for. Although I steer clear of PC World for PCs, laptops are a different story. You cannot build yourself a laptop as you can a PC, and at PC World the prices are very similar to other shops and online retailers. They have quite a range of laptops and after looking at them and their specifications the Packard Bell Easy Note was definately the best choice. Even though it was not the most powerful in terms of speed it was the 'neatest' and best priced one! When you close it it is forms a slim sleek rectangle - unlike many of the others that were bubbly in shape and didn't close to produce a flush edge. It is a Pentium III 600 MHz or thereabouts with 64Mb RAM and lots of software already installed, and CDs also supplied. For those people who have never used a computer, or Windows, when you first turn it on you have the choice of going through a tutorial that will introduce you to Windows and how to use it. Perfect for dad! Also has a DVD drive for relaxation time...

PC World currently have this laptop on special offer. Previously priced at £1599, it has been reduced by £400 to £1199 - an excellent price for this laptop! PC World also offer warranty for laptops whereby you pay around £360 for three years cover, which will cover you for accidental damage and theft. Personally i th
ink it is worth taking out as if the screen is damaged it can cost a fortune to repair - whereas with the warranty you can have peace of mind for three years by which time it'll be time for a new one anyway probably...

I have used a Dell laptop and played about on a Sony laptop, and I think that this cheaper alternative is wonderful! Even if i had the money to go for a more expensive one i don't think i would - this is fast enough to cope with the majority of tasks and having owned it for a few weeks now, not one problem has been encountered. Now this is amazing! Packard Bell - well done!

Pity you didn't read the other ops on PC World, the warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Sounds a good laptop tho - altho what makes them easier to learn on than desktops?
