I bought this laptop recently and I find it is a great little laptop, that is powerful and has a decent battery life.
The 13.3 inch screen id the perfect size for viewing and working. Size and weightwise, it is only 2.2kg in weight and is about 35mm at its thickest point towards the back (where the battery sits), It allows you to view 720p resolution HD files with ease and you can even view 1080p files without any problems. The inbuilt graphic card and i3 dual core processor make short work of high def video and even lets you play recent games (I have played Batman Arkham Asylum and Need For Speed: Most Wanted with ease). However, you may need to tune down the resolution settings, but on a 720p 13 inch screen, it makes little difference to the quality of gameplay.
The processor is a dual core i3-350M clocked at around 2.25Ghz. The RAM can vary but my model came with 4GB and its max capacity os 8GB. To utilise this, you have to install Win 7 64bit (32 bit or x86 can only utilise 3.5GB max) to watch out for this. The graphics is an inbuilt Intel GMA HD number that isn't the most earth shattering but suffices for most tasks other than high end gaming.
It also has an inbuilt DVD drive - very slim and useful for making backups and installing programs. The Windows 7 software works perfectly with Samsung recovery solution and other Samsung software to make life a bit easier. The trackpad is responsive and slightly offset to the right of the unit, which some may find puts them off with typing, but I have had no problems whatsoever. There is an easy Fn+function button combination to disable the trackpad if you so wish. I cannot find setting adjustments for the trackpad but it is fairly responsive once you get used to it. It is multi touch responsive and thus you can pinch-to-zoom and use three fingers to swipe and move back/forward through slideshows and internet browsers. Of course there is also the standard scrollbar zone on the right and bottom.
The keyboard is responsive and sturdy, though some may find the spaced out keys a little disturbing, and I do think they could have put them closer and managed to fit in a number pad on the right, but this is a minor point.
Heat-wise, it stays fairly cool with the vent on the left side. However, with prolonged use on your lap, the air vent blasts out hot air which eventually becomes a nuisance and repositioning. A good laptop mat may fix this, though I do not have one to try.
There is one USB 2.0 compliant port on the left and two on the right, next to the DVD tray. There is also a card reader on the front of the device. There is also a VGA and HDMI port should you need that extra connectivity. Battery life lasts me 4h with Wifi internet surfing and watching movies. The Wifi is 802.11n and the Bluetooth is 3.0 + EDR, which is slightly faster than the 2.0+EDR on most models of electronic devices.
Coming back to battery life, it is okay for a machine of its type, though netbooks will give you better life as they are obviously weaker processors and smaller screens. The battery takes a while to charge during use, and whilst the lid is shut, the charging indicator light becomes concealed and is only visible from the front of the unit, turning green from orange to signify charging is complete.
The speakers are a little tinny and sound metallic in some circumstances. However, plug in headphones and it is absolutely fine and you can disappear into your own world. Having the DVD drive also means that it doubles as a nice little portable DVD player and media centre.
Overall, I love this computer and can highly recommend it, esp if you can get a good deal on it with the 5900mAh battery pack.
At just 26.4mm thick, Samsung Q330 may be thinner than the standard smart phone, but it packs a full, powerful performance with the leading-edge Intel Core i3 Processor, long battery life, Optical Disk Drive, and more.
