I bought this laptop getting on for a year ago now.
I knew when I bought it was not the fastest or best laptop on the market. I was searching for value for money while avoiding the very cheapest laptops.
And over all I think I got it. Everything you look for in a laptop is here.
# Light weight (Reasonably so)
# Battery Life (Good)
# Performance (Very impressed for normal usage not a problem but will not do well for games. If you want to play games this is not the laptop for you)
# Design (Very straight forward plain clean design)
# Bells and whistles (I has a requirement for HDMI and a built in webcam which it has)
If you are looking for a straight forward mid range good quality all purpose laptop then this is a good buy.
100% reccomneded to all looking for a mid range laptop
I bought this laptop about 18 months ago and have mixed feelings about it! I actually bought it online from a website called samsungcomputer.com for £309.00 which I thought was good value for money..
Mine is actually the high gloss black cover and I must admit I still have the protective clear cover on it all this time later as I'm worried that the cover will scratch and look awful!
All I wanted from a laptop was to be able to access the internet, watch films through my TV via my laptop and download music. It does all of these however I do find that as its got older its also got alot slower! Now I know that the amount of stuff I download impacts on this but believe me I have not used anywhere near the max capacity so I've been really disappointed with this part.
Shortly after I got it I also had problems with the software for the keyboard so it kept erroring on me...fortunately my brother who works in IT managed to sort that out for me but every now and then it comes up with a 'stopped working' box so its still not right...
The keyboard is nice and flat though so its nice to use. There are also several USB ports (3 in total) which is more than my old Dell and comes in useful..!
The screen quality is still very good however the volume can be tempermental at times and can disappear completely so I can't turn it on or off or up or down! And the speaker quality isn't that great compared to my old Dell either but I don't tend to use the speakers that much other than watching You Tube on ocassions!
The battery life is usually 2-3 hours absolute max which again my old Dell lasted longer...
I bought this laptop after my old Toshiba one had given up the ghost and the screen repair was uneconomic.
I was looking for a laptop that was within my price range <£500 and had a good spec. My last laptop was a bit short on RAM and HDD space, so I wanted to make sure I had both. Browsing the shops I was attracted by the Samsung R510 which was a very good price as well as having a decent specification, in particular the 4GB of RAM, good if you are going to keep the resource hungry Windows Vista on the system! The laptop also has an HDMI port which allows connection to an HD TV and works well.
Apart from the specification the other thing that attracted me to it was the looks. In the latest samsung style it has dark red plastic fading to deep black which in my opinion looks very good and different from all the silver and black laptops out there. Major problem with it is the finger marks all over it! The screen is bright and clear, and gives good colour depth.
Battery life- all important on a laptop is excellent- no problems at all- and depending on programs 2-3hrs on battery is not uncommon.
Sound and volume are poor though- very tinny and not loud even through headphones at max. Poor.
Overall the laptop runs programs well and the features for the money are good. I wouldn't like to pay £500 or over for it, but it is still a great laptop, and a looks a bit different.
