      Great Product

      I have had this product for a very long time now(since 2009), and it is still very fast and very productive and is a great buy for the money.

      This laptop is not great for gaming due to the low processing speed and medium RAM, It is still a very useful product none the less. This product can be upgraded in terms of RAM which means the processes will run faster.

      In terms of top of the range this laptop is not great however it will run very well if you don't want to use it for thing like gaming with the newest games as the engines used to run these games are extremely demanding and the tech specs of this laptop are not powerful enough or new enough to cope with the demands of these engines.

      All in all it is a good buy if you are just planning to use it for light browsing or image editing.

      Excellent product. I would highly recommend it!

      I have always like Samsung as a brand and have both fridgefreezer and a TV of this make, so when it came to replacing my poor, broken H.P. laptop, I naturally sought out a Samsung one. I hve never regretted this decision. It was very basic and easy to set up (literally plug it in and away you go!)
      The top is black, shiny and desn't scratch easily and despite the fact that I really use this a lot, it is still going strong. I have found the storage (memory) perfectly ample for my movies, photographs and music. It is easy to negotiate and is speedy provided my internet is up to scratch.
      I bought this laptop in the sale at Comet for £499, which was very reasonable considering it has windows 7 already loaded on it and a variety of multi-media packages for the more creative soul. There is a built in webcam, which my little boy really enjoys using, and it came with a decent anti-virus (although I'm not sure if that's standard, or just put on by the shop.)
      I have had absolutely no problems with this laptop at all and I would highly recommend this product very highly.

      A relatively cheap laptop that will serve most people's needs very well.

      I have now owned this laptop for just over a year and it has served me very well, It has mainly been used as a desktop replacement and is usually on 24/7, however I also take it with me on trips if I need something more powerful to use than my Netbook and despite being plugged into the wall socket 24/7 and despite reading other reviews about this laptop having poor battery life, I still manage to achieve 3 hours with it which is more than enough in my Opinion.

      The Samsung R519 has a completely plastic casing and is surprisingly very sturdy and have had no problems with pieces of the construction such as the hinges becoming lose, I have had this problem with previous laptops I have owned including my Samsung N130 Netbook I currently own.
      The Samsung R519 has a glossy black lid which is very prone to fingerprints as you might expect, however luckily it doesn't seem prone to scratches which you may also expect from a glossy surface.
      The laptop has a very nice keyboard that is easy to type on however some may have preferred a numeric pad which this laptop is unfortunately missing, the touchpad is on the small size but despite that is still very nice to use and the right and left click are separated on a panel underneath the touchpad so will not be mistakenly hit.
      The Laptop has a 15.6" screen which seems to be the most common size on Laptops these days, the display is nice and bright and the laptop has built in power-saving options for when away from the plug such as the screen slightly dimming to pro-long battery life.

      Windows 7 comes pre-installed on this machine, Windows 7 is the most recent operating system from Microsoft and is the successor the windows vista which received very bad reviews, you will pleased to know Windows 7 is probably the easiest operating system to use and you will pick it up very quickly, I personally consider it to be easier to use than Windows XP.

      The Samsung R519 comes with 3GB of Ram and a 250GB hardrive which is more than enough for loading most computing tasks. I use my laptop for my entire iTunes library and also play various games such as football manager yet there is still enough power in this Laptop to have lots of other applications running at the same time.

      To conclude, I am very pleased with this Laptop and it has served me well being used as a Desktop replacement and occasionally being used as a travelling companion. I feel it would be an excellent purchase for most general users however, some users may find the 250GB hardrive not enough for them and I'm almost certain this laptop will not play graphic intensive games due to it's Intel Pentium processor and Intel Graphics.

      Buy this laptop ideal for socialising, browsing internet, and doing work, storing data.

      Samsung R519 is the first laptop i have bought at £400 and i have had it nearly 2 years and have had no problems with it, it was cheap as i am a uni student and needed something so i can do my assignments on.

      The laptop is quick at starting up which is key as a slow laptop is never good and so you can get on with what you want whether it is going on the internet or if you get a Microsoft word or open office package you can do any type of work.
      This laptop has a good size keys with good size keyboard keys which makes it good for getting in touch with people and doing work.
      Samsung laptop comes with 500GB hard drive which is plenty of storage space to store data on, My laptop has a few 100 songs on it, photos, and all my college/ uni work so this laptop is very ideal.With the 3 USB ports it is good so you can put external hard drives in plug the phone in and use USB stick, but one slight problem is that the USB ports are all on one side and so if you have a big memory stick for example you wont be able to use the other USB port.

      The Battery could be better as i have to charge it everday but this laptop does what i want it to do which is doing my uni work , browsing internet and socialisng.

      Disadvantages

      Incredible value for just under £500 on Amazon, or substantially less when Google shopping.

      OK, so I just read a review on the Samsung RF712 laptop which is one of the latest laptops from Samsung out right now and the main advantage was 'cheap' - on Amazon for the best part of £1250. Which to be honest didn't really strike me as cheap.

      So, I thought I'd give you the low down on what I consider a cheap Samsung laptop - the R519, which I bought in September 2009 for about £510.

      Style: Typically Samsung chiq with a very minimalist black layout. No number pad on the keyboard but as this is a 15" screen there isn't room anyway. There is one large speaker at the top of the keyboard that runs all the way across from left to right and on the lid there's a SAMSUNG branded tag which, unlike Apple Mac Books doesn't light up.

      Processing Power: Excellent. I have used this machine for over two years now and the Intel Pentium T3400 processor combined with the beefy 3GB of RAM means extremely rare crashes and the ability to run a good five or six applications (say Word, Excel, Firefox, Photoshop, Dreamweaver) easily and flick between each one very quickly. Don't get stung and get the Celeron version - you will be disappointed!

      Out Of The Box: From what I can remember very quick and easy to set up with Wizards all the way. Where I bought it at Comet the salesman also kindly threw in Norton 360 which has done me proud up until now.

      Price: I paid just over £500 in September 2009 and having just Googled the product name results have come back as low as around £280 which is an absolute steal. However, watch out that you don't get a Celeron processor as these really let the speed of the processor down on any laptop.

      Lovely runner

      Before I start, I'd better say that I'm not a techie so won't be telling you how much storage or gigathingys this laptopo gives, just telling it how I see it. This is the second laptop I've owned personally, however have had lots of experience using other laptops. The first laptop I got was a Christmas gift and as such I didn't choose it myself and was not that impressed with it to be honest. This made me determined to find out as much as I could before I got a new one and eventually I ended up with this one. Boy am I glad that I did. It works perfectly and thus far (just under a year) I have not had a problem with it. It works quickly and smoothly, and the battery life is very good. I particularly like the fact that it there is a button underneath which you can press without the computer being on and it will light up showing you how much percentage of life you have. This means you can tell when it's charged without turning it on and faffing around. The only thing I would say is adverse is the weight of the laptop, it is a bit heavier than I would like, but this is generally not a problem and if I have to compromise on something then I'd rather it was the weight of the computer than the efficiency of it. Sound is good, at times it can be a little tinny but generally is pleasing. I would not recommend this computer if you want to play music on it often as you may be disappointed with the sound. Having said this I watch plenty of tv, etc and don't find the sound annoying. It depends upon your expectations I suppose! Overall I would say it's a good computer if you want it for general use which is what I use it for.

        Fantastic Laptop for me. Does everything i need. Best buy i have made in years

        Practical, fast and with a minimalistic design... A brilliant computer when connected to the mains. I am currently writing this review on this samsung R519... If your looking for a computer to take out and about with you on a regular basis, then this is probably not for you as the only disappointing feature i can think of is the battery life. With out the pains plugged in and the laptop on full power, this will only last for about an hour or two. You can make it last much longer by changing the setting to power saver but this will affect the performance of the computer.

        Surfing the web, playing games, sharing photos and videos, using itunes and many other things you use a computer for is excellent on this machine. I use google chrome to surf the internet and it never lags. It loads the pages nice and fast. I have a library full of songs in my itunes and all the songs are safely stored away in the organised folders in my pc.

        Its such a simplistic design, all you have is a beautifully big 15.6 inch screen, keys are standard size... perfect for my big fingers. It has a touch sensitive pad for scrolling down and across web pages and documents. A left and right click button underneath the touch sensitive pad. The laptop has 3 USB PORTS, 1 ETHERNET SOCKET, A SOCKET FOR CONNECTING TO A LARGER MONITOR, LINE IN SOCKET, HEAD PHONE SOCKET, STANDARD WEB CAM, SD CARD SLOT and DVD RAM. It doesn't have an HDMI port which i would have been great for me.

        Be wary as it does heat up quite fast and quite hot when it is plugged into the mains so perhaps invest in a fan if you buy this. I do not have a fan and i have had no problems as of yet but its just a thought. Its quite heavy as well, i have handled much lighter laptops before.

        Overall, it has its negative points but the positives out shine the bad points.
        Its fast, simple design, plays movies on a beautiful screen, uploads fast and downloads fast. want something simple and full of high performance, then id recommend this.

        A excellent all round laptop perfect for watching movies or just everyday use

        I got my Samsung R519 for Christmas 2009. I was instantly happy. A year on and it is still as good as brand new laptops out there which is great ! It has good specs and a large , bright screen. The only thing that really bugs me about it is the battery life but I normally have it plugged in anyway so that doesn't affect me that much.

        * Quality *
        The R519 is superb quality. It has a large screen and the keyboard is very robust but at the same time is really easy to type with. I have had it for just more than a year now and everything is working the same as when I first took it out of the box apart from the left button on the mouse which can sometimes stick but that rarely happens and is just down to dust getting stuck. The keyboard is quite noisy as well but that doesn't bother me but it can bother some people.

        * Reliability *
        So far I have had no problems with my laptop. Like I have already said , it is working the same as the day I first got it. I have had no viruses and I haven't used up even half of its memory yet.

        * Ease of Use *
        This laptop came complete with Windows 7. This is windows newest system and also its most easy to use system. Everything is displayed in a clear way and even my 7 year old finds it really easy to use. The laptops mouse is very simple as well and responsive not like some other laptops that I have had over the years !

        * Installation *
        When I pulled this laptop over of its box , I was so excited to use it and I was expecting that its would have a long boring start up or one of tests etc.. I was pleasantly surprised. I pulled up the lid , made my account and put in my wireless password and that was it ! I was surfing the web within 2 minutes of getting the laptop!

        * Battery Life *
        This is the one thing that slightly lets this laptop down. It has poor battery life. This can be over come however. Either by leaving it plugged in or changing the battery settings. These are settings which will automatically kick in when the computed is unplugged so the battery will last longer. The screen will dim to whatever point you want it to and some programs that you chose will shut down.

        * Features *
        The Samsung R519 comes with some great features. It comes with windows 7 pre - Installed. It also has a large screen for a laptop (15.6 inches) ,2GB RAM ,SRS TruSurround XT and SRS WOW XT which make it perfect for gaming or watching HD movies on it.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Excellent laptop apart from short battery life

        What can I say about the Samsung R519 (other than it is the best laptop I've ever had)? Well, a lot actually. I've owned the Samsung R519 for just over a year now (as it was a Christmas present) and I can honestly say I don't know how it is still working. I have not had this laptop turned off for more than one hour since I first turned it on. It is on ALL day and ALL night only restarting it so that updates can be installed! My Samsung R519 came with Windows 7 and I was really surprised at how well integrated into the software it is. I have experienced no freezing or delays when loading new pages, opening documents or starting any programmes, which let's be honest is pretty good for any laptop these days with all the extras that are crammed into them. The performance of the Samsung R519 is outstanding.

        I am also very impressed with the durability of this particular model. The laptop itself feels very sturdy and there is no sag or slip when the screen is raised, which is a problem I have experienced with previous laptops, and when closing the laptop there is no slam effect that makes you wonder if you have cracked your screen or not. The screen itself is High Definition and does not overheat at all surprisingly although the same cannot be said for the vent at the left side of the keyboard which can get very hot if blocked. So it is wise to make sure you use the Samsung R519 on a flat surface (or just keep the vent raised if possible). The keys are very sturdy as I am quite heavy handed and have been known to do my fair share of button mashing.

        The Dual Layer dvd RW is a nice touch also as not many good quality brand name laptops that are this cheap have Dual Layer. This is useful for compiling all your home movies onto as few disks as possible.

        The only real problem I have with this particular laptop is the battery life. If like me you like your screen bright enough to read a newspaper with then expect to get an hour to an hour and a half of battery life, but you can set it to power saver mode if preferred. I generally run the laptop through the mains so it's not really a big problem for me.

        All in all I have to say that the Samsung R519 is not only the best laptop I have owned, but the best that I have ever used. I definitely suggest this model to anyone thinking of buying themselves a better laptop.

        A very stylish/modern laptop for the price paid

        I've had a few laptops over the years and never had a Samsung. I chose the Samsung after looking around the internet for a while and I picked this because Samsung being a really good make but not a make I's initially associate with Laptops was advertised for a very good price on the website.

        I looked a various reviews and then decided to buy.

        I am very happy and looks very smart too. The screen is black and inside is silver. The size is just right, it is quite a large laptop so that the screen is of a good screen. I have found with past laptops that the screen is too small.

        One disadvantage is that the laptop is very heavy and when leaning it on my lap for a long period of time it does feel very heavy.

        I have to keep charging this laptop up to, a charge does not last long as I have to charge everyday. The laptop is switched on from five to ten most days and the charge does not last this period of time. At maximum performance it lasts two hours sometimes not even that long, depending on what I am doing on the laptop.

        I do like that it is built with a webcam which is of a good quality and you are able to take pictures of yourself with the software provided with different backgrounds.

        My R519 came with Windows 7 on and runs very well. Also have Office 2007. The computer is not slow and the internet connection is very good. Do not have to wait for processing time like some laptops.

        I would highly recommend this laptop and I think it was very very well priced. I paid around £350-£380 for this. Lots of lower branded laptops are higher priced that this. As a standard laptop can retail at this.

        The laptop comes with a DVD re-writable disk too.

        Spec:

        15.6 inches screen
        Integrated graphics card
        DVD drive
        250gb hard drive
        Wireless access

          i have had the laptop 4 a year now. It is very good. I love it. It is easy to use and to adapt in. I use it for all tings like programming, watching dvds, music,picture and all kinds of stuff. I was even surprised when i installed fifa 2010 on it and is works wonderful. It just had some lacks with need for speed, however it played the game and u just cant play it on high quality. But so far i am happy with it. Its a wonderful product an worth its price. {Armand Engelbrecht}

          God's gift to quality budget laptoppery

          It is difficult to put into words how brilliant the Samsung R519 is. But I'll have a go.

          Widescreen, great picture quality, High Defiinition (HD) compatible and - for example, when I recently watched the animated film Up on my laptop - it produced wows from all three of us watching it. The picture quality is that good.

          Technically, there is little anyone could fault from a "general user +" perspective like mine. I mean; a 250 GB Hard Drive (pre-split into two 125s, for ideal back-up purposes) is more than enough for most people - and of course, there are external hard drives for those who need it anyway. It has a 2ghz processor and 3 GB of RAM. It's plenty on paper, and it is plenty in reality, too. Surf the net with ten windows open and you won't feel any impact. Honestly, you won't.

          And the laptop has a great keyboard layout, and decent-sized mousepad. Big enough for my clumsy fingers. The battery will last from 2-4 hours, depending on how much you're doing. Expect 3 hours between charges no problem.

          And while I eulogise about how good it is, I can also advise on Samsung's warranty repairs, because the motherboard on mine was slightly dislodged when I got the laptop. Maybe caused in transit when I bought it, who knows. But anyway, Samsung collected, repaired and returned the laptop very quickly.

          And it hasn't blinked, faultered or let me down once in the 9 months since.

          I regard myself as a good critic of equipment. I didn't choose the R519 lightly, and I love the laptop because it repaid my investigations and faith in it.

          I hope you find this useful.

          B. Edmond

          Excellent laptop, if your looking for a laptop for under £400, this is the one!

          I got this Samsung laptop for Christmas 09, for £369. I have always bought Toshiba laptops, however, decided it was a time for a change. I could not be happier with my puchase! The laptop is extremely fast, starting up in less than 20 seconds and i have encountered no problems within the 7 months i have been using it.

          It comes with windows media player, and its ability to run DVD's and CD's very good. Battery life is very good and if you find yourself in the classic situaiton of low battery with nowhere to plug it in, the energy saver mode is useful to keep it going for a few more vital minutes.

          The only criticism i have is that it is not much of a gamers laptop! If you are into playing Empire total War, Medal of Honour, Flashpoint, or any games with high demand on graphics and so forth, they can be very slow and lag.

          Its easy to connect to a wireless internet. Lots of internal memory 250Gb and I have found it very user friendly. It has windows 7 and has Intel Celeron processor. I was apprehensive about using windows 7 as changes like this normally take a long time to adapt to. However its extremely good. Plenty of USB ports and it has good sound quality if you dont have any speakers.

          If your looking for a middle of the range laptop for everyday use, then in my opinion, this is the perfect laptop. If your more of a gamer, maybe look at the higher priced range.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          It's O.K.

          The Samsung R519 is my first laptop. as I had always previously used desktops I was reluctant to spend money on a laptop so I didn't, it was a free gift when I got my most recent mobile phone contract last autumn.

          The one I have has the intel dual core 2.16 with 3ghz of ram and a 250gb hard drive. The computer performs most everday functions without any issues whatsoever. Games can be a little bit dodgy as the graphics can let it down a bit. By fiddling round with the graphics options I have managed to run all the games I have wanted to but I have a preference for retro gaming.

          Last month something went completely wrong with the laptop. I had been using it with the pre-installed version of windows vista. As is the norm now days the recovery files are on the hard drive. I managed to backup my files using the 'Samsung Recovery Centre' but when I tried to reinstall windows it deleted everything from the hard drive and kept crashing whilst trying to reinstall windows. I created a windows vista recovery disk using my desktop but when I had reinstalled it found that the microsoft sticker with the pruduct key for windows was on the bottom of the laptop and had faded. In the end I bought windows 7 and it has been running better ever since.

          To buy the R519 would cost around £300-350. If I were spending that much money on a laptop I would buy something else as it does not have an HDMI output and I have had the technical difficulties with it. One thing I have definitely learned from having a laptop is to check out where the windows product key is and write it down. For free this is a great computer but I still prefer my desktop.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A worthy contender in the lower middle belt of laptops

          The Samsung R519 is a low-middle belt laptop which will handle all the domestic duties well enough even with the standard 1GB ram that comes installed, though you should seriously consider upgrading to at least 3GB whatever it is you're doing. Or better yet, replace the 1 stick with 2x2GB - This will only add about £25 onto the price. The Dual core 2.16 ghz allows for rapid use of programs, it shouldn't struggle with even the more demanding applications like Photoshop.

          The screen is a nice size of 15.6" (widescreen) which makes viewing movies and videos or moving several windows around a pleasent experience. As for multimedia and gaming, this laptop is not going to cut it with its integrated intel 4500 graphics processor. But consdering gaming laptops begin a couple of hundred pounds above the RRP of this, it does pretty well for itself.

          As for the aesthetic, its simple and smart. Quite ergonomic, though you might find yourself knocking the touch pad when typing which can be frustrating. Ultimately a safe choice. Don't be swayed by other laptops offering more ram, its cheap to upgrade!
