Advantages: Cheap, Very Powerful Processor, Typically Stylish Samsung
Disadvantages: Battery Life (have had this laptop for over two years however)
OK, so I just read a review on the Samsung RF712 laptop which is one of the latest laptops from Samsung out right now and the main advantage was 'cheap' - on Amazon for the best part of £1250. Which to be honest didn't really strike me as cheap.
So, I thought I'd give you the low down on what I consider a cheap Samsung laptop - the R519, which I bought in September 2009 for about £510.
Style: Typically Samsung chiq with a very minimalist black layout. No number pad on the keyboard but as this is a 15" screen there isn't room anyway. There is one large speaker at the top of the keyboard that runs all the way across from left to right and on the lid there's a SAMSUNG branded tag which, unlike Apple Mac Books doesn't light up.
Processing Power: Excellent. I have used this machine for over two years now and the Intel Pentium T3400 processor combined with the beefy 3GB of RAM means extremely rare crashes and the ability to run a good five or six applications (say Word, Excel, Firefox, Photoshop, Dreamweaver) easily and flick between each one very quickly. Don't get stung and get the Celeron version - you will be disappointed!
Out Of The Box: From what I can remember very quick and easy to set up with Wizards all the way. Where I bought it at Comet the salesman also kindly threw in Norton 360 which has done me proud up until now.
Price: I paid just over £500 in September 2009 and having just Googled the product name results have come back as low as around £280 which is an absolute steal. However, watch out that you don't get a Celeron processor as these really let the speed of the processor down on any laptop.
Summary: Incredible value for just under £500 on Amazon, or substantially less when Google shopping.
