I have just recently change my laptop to the Samsung R540 15.6-inch Notebook (Intel Core i3-350M 2.26GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, DVD Super Multi DL, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium from years of using Acers. I went for this laptop for screen size and wasn’t disappointed the LED screen is excellent. It has three USB ports and a HDMI port. The one I have is a black dark grey colour and looks great. The wifi coverage and internet access is far better than my Acer and is a lot quicker. I wouldn’t say the camera is as good as my old laptop but it’s good enough for video calls etc. Yes it is a bit bulky compared to your modern day laptops but that was my choice for screen size. The battery life is about two hours which isn’t the best but I use it as a desk top most of the time so doesn’t affect me. I find the keyboard excellent with ample size keys. It unfortunately doesn’t have surround sound speakers which therefore downgrades the sound quality a bit but it’s still loud enough, Setting it up is an easy process and I fined burning discs easy to. I have windows 7 home premier on mine and it’s great. I would recommend this laptop to anybody who uses it more like a desktop only because of its size even though it is easy to transport around and only weighs about 3.5kg. I think the black looks better than any others of the colours but that’s my own personal opinion.
Having been torn between Windows and Mac's for a number of years, I've decided that they both have there flaws and drawbacks. I purchased this computer while I was using a mac and decided that I ultimately wanted something that was excellent value for money, which is why I chose a windows as opposed to a Mac. I have never had a Samsung before, but the reviews on Amazon swayed me to this.
In the current market, for the spec this is probably the most you can get from your money. The computer is very lightweight with a large liquid display screen and I haven't had any problems with glare off sunlight and things like that. The casing does feel a little cheap and plastic, it also attracts marks very easily - but I guess that means it'll get cleaned more.
The computer itself, is very responsive and quiet compared to my Mac, especially when it comes to the fan. As of yet, I haven't had any problems with it over heating and I've been using it for a good few months. As I am studying Graphic design I needed a computer that could hack programs like Photosop - and this certainly can.
The keyboard if you are a mac convert is very similar so I didn't have any problems with changing. I would say the touchpad is a bit strange as it sometimes allows you to scroll using two fingers - and sometimes it doesn't. I feel the product would be much more improved if they kept it the same for everything.
The only major issue I seem to have had, is with wireless connectivity. The computer didn't seem to be able to stay connected for more than half and our at a time and wouldn't reconnect for hours later. The problem seems to have calmed down since I used someone else's broadband.
Overall pros: I would say this is excellent value for money - the problems are easily fixed or down to taste, it is lightweight has excellent spec, it's easy to use, great for watching films, it also has a long charger cable and it doesn't break the bank!
Overall cons: Having trouble with internet, the protective case is kind of cheap looking and the speakers are great for loud music.
