This laptop was purchased for me by work. I have been using it for 6 years every day and night and never had a single problem with it.
Its lightweight and cheap to buy.
The Mouse is really sensitive and easy to navigate never felt the need to get a separate mouse.
The keys are hard wearing even after 6 years I can see every letter and numer.
The battery life is not great, but I think this is my own fault for keeping it plugged in for too long.
Its very simple to use and even the 'F' keys have little pictures on them so it makes it easier for you to remember what they are for.
It stores alot of information and has two drives. I am not the most technical of people but I have alot of information on this laptop and never struggled for space.
It does get quite warm but I do use it alot.
There are several USB points.
It doesnt have a camera, but I am sure it would be easy enough to attach one.
It has a one year warranty.
Good Size screen.
The keys are quite loud when typing.
Would deff recommend this for someone who wants a simple to use laptop thats reliable.
The screen is bright and easy to read.
Installation of other programmes is so quick and easy.
Great sound quality.
i bought my samsung R60 plus about 3 1/2 years ago from tesco for about £400.00. it is a very robust design. i say this because some other laptops i have used have ended up a bit floppy in the way that the screan bit sometimes flops down and wont stay up - whereas this one is stil quite stiff after years of use. i love the way it is shiny on the top. one thing i have noticed is that over the years the battery life is not what it used to be, infact i get about just over half an hours use if it is fully charged!! which is pretty useless if you're no where near a charger point. i now basically have to have it plugged in and charging every time i use it which could be annoying for some people that are looking for a laptop for on the go but i find i can live with it. although i have never bought a spare battery to see if that would make a difference in the long term. i have also noticed that if i dont have it plugged in and charging, then the screan is not as bright - i dont know if this can be sorted in settings, probably i suppose but i have never actually looked myself. on a plus side, always starts up really quick and goes into power saver mode if you leave untouched. apart from the charging issues, i love this laptop.
I have had my Samsung R60 for about two years and bought it online for £375 when I was still in Uni. Due to my job, I use my laptop on a daily basis for quite long periods of time. Because of this I do tend to use it on the mains as the battery life isn't amazing.
It's a nice looking laptop, glossy black with Samsung in silver and I think its quite lightweight compared to some other laptops that I have used/ had myself. This makes carrying it around nice and easy...which essentially is really the point of a laptop isn't it.
Although I am happy with the R60 I must point out that it isn't very quick to load up and the mouse pad is irritatingly sensitive which can be a major pain in the bum if you are touch typing and you haven't realised that you...or a stray thread from your cardigan... have knocked the mouse pad.
The screen suits me just fine and I do think the quality of graphics is quite nice. I've used watch films and online tv but I don't tend to use it for gaming so I can't really advise on that.
Unfortunately after less than a year of having this laptop I did get the blue screen of death. The laptop was still under warranty but as my brother in law is a computer technician he just sorted it out for me. Within a day I had my computer back but I had lost all of my work. I had kept my virus software up to date and was told that there were no virus on it when it was fixed for me so it does appear that there was some kind of technical glitch. However, having read other reviews myself this doesn't seem to be a common problem so don't let that put you off, just consider getting an external hard drive to back up your work/pictures etc.
I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who is just looking for a nice straightforward and easy to use machine. Personally I would try to get it for less than £300 as it was less than £400 two years ago and we all know how quickly computer technology ages. In two years or so I am fully aware that my beloved shiny samsung will be aged and coming closer to its retirement years.
I've had this laptop for about 2 years now with no major problems and it's used almost daily, if not a few times a day. Plus, it's still all shiny and gorgeous even though it's took a fair few knocks (i'm not the most careful person in the world and my 3yo thinks my laptops actually his sometimes) It went half way down the stairs once and still survived, although, obviously i wouldn't recommend doing that!
I won't pretend I know about the technology inside this laptop; everyone would see straight through me, but unless you have about 10 programs running simultaneously it's quick to load things and everything works well. The DVD player bit works quickly and effectively and the graphics are excellent for a relatively cheap Samsung.
On the downside I found the battery begins to drain really quickly after a few months of use; going from around 3 hours battery life to around half an hour, so be prepared to upgrade this or be hooked up to the charger most of the time, which pretty much ruins the freedom of having a laptop vs a desktop PC.
In summary the Samsung R60 Plus is great for reliability and ease of use but be careful of extra costs such as a new battery.
I bought my Samsung R60 Plus laptop from Tesco in 2008 January.
The price was £399 and this was a fantastic deal at the time, as for the specs this was good value. Got it home and found out I had 2 years free warrenty too!
Booted the laptop up, loaded the preloaded Vista Premium and waited for around 20 minutes. It was very quick and loaded perfectly. I installed my 2007 word suite and installed Mcafee with 30 days trial.
The laptop itself has a shiny black front with the SAMSUNG name on the front, which I find quite sexy. The screen is smooth and is also sexy, but can glare in the sun which means you cant read off it well. The Keyboard has special anti-bacterial things on them (That you cant see) that try and protect you from any germs on the keys. The keyboard is easy to type with and very enjoyable.
The laptop has a Multicard slot which means that SD Cards can go in, which is a HUGE Advantage for me being a photographer.
On the right is the CD Drive, on the left we have Inputs of Microphone and headphones, VGA Slot, One USB Slot and Expresscard Slot
Also is the fan. Oh the fan!
This fan lets the laptop down so badly, It is quite hot mostly and makes a bit of a sound. It doesnt really put me off, but if you were going to use it in a quiet place, its a definite no no!
The laptop does get very hot, specially near this fan
The speed of the laptop is very good and programs load reasonably too! - The graphics looked bad when I looked up the specs, but is perfect for such games as Flight Simulator, The Sims etc. Not for Advanced games, but why would you buy this laptop for that anyway?
The Battery Life is pretty poor to be honest, and started getting lower since day 1 - I always use mains, but the battery is a problem
Overall this laptop is a fantastic buy, and since I bought it the price has fallen!
I recommend this too Students, Teenagers, PC Newbies :)
The Samsung R60 Plus is an excellent entry level laptop. There are slight variations in the available specifications (i.e there are 160gb and 200gb versions) but they are all aimed at casual users.
Visually it is one of the best looking laptops on the market, with the trademark Samsung shiny black casing and stylish trim surrounding the 15.4" screen. The keypad is nicely designed and proportioned and feels very natural.
The processor is not the fastest but for the price it is pretty good. I am a basic user who uses the laptop for web surfing, word processing and DVD writing. I am usually able to do all these at the same time and I have never seen the processor work above 50-60% which is superb.
The only negatives are the scroll on the touchpad which can be a little clunky and not particularly smooth. It has also stopped working on occasion although I think this is a Windows Vista issue and is solved with a reboot. The main downside for me is the battery life which is around 2 hours, even on power saving modes. I thought this would be sufficient but it does get annoying - and it is easier to just keep it plugged in to the mains while using. This is fine for me, but for someone hoping to take their laptop on long train journeys or anywhere without a mains source, it could be a big issue.
3D gaming is also not really possible on this machine (not latest games anyway)
For the extremely good price- this is a superb laptop in terms of performance and for anyone who just wishes to use a laptop for office/web browsing/dvd and cd authoring. I have never had any desire for a more powerful laptop and as long as you do not want a games machine- this is a brilliant little laptop.
I purchased this about two months ago and have to say i have been really impressed with it. I dont know if it comes as standard, but the first thing i noticed was that it comes with all the recovery discs which is a huge advantage for me. No need to spend endless hours trying to back it up only to get it wrong. It is an extremely stylish looking laptop with a sleek, shiny black outside and just has quality written all over it. It is perfectly adequate for all my storage needs and the screen is a good size. It is also quite a light laptp which is a definate plus if you need to take it out a lot. The battery lasts about 2 hours which i find enough. The power lead was wobbly but samsung replaced immediately and i received it the next day. Excellent customer sevice.
This Laptop is relitively new on the market, this means it follows the current trend with technology, its getting better and cheaper.
I recently purchased this product and i have to say it is an absolute blessing, its not particularly heavy, and has a fairly sizable wide-screen displaying a good quality image. I have spoken to a few computer type people and many of them said this was one of the best laptops you're going to see this year at the low price it is.
It has 2 1.66ghz processers meaning it runs quickly and efficiently. it also has a built in Ati Radeon graphics card, which can cope with most games, i've found the newest ones out don't function on it but most do.
The 2 GB of RAM help alot as well, making this laptop very good at running multiple programs without the computer lagging, and it ensures very quick install times.
Not to mention the sleek black exterior which can be a real eye catcher.
This is a quality laptop, or as i would say, a real snazzy piece of kit!
The Samsung R60+ stands out from the crowd. This notebook's exceptionally sleek and minimalist design combines optimum style, breakthrough performance, a vibrant 15.4" widescreen display and amazing value.
