Advantages: great processing power and so on
Disadvantages: Heavy and bulky
The sony vaio BX297XP is a laptop that offers a much higher performance than other laptops.
Why get a sony vaio laptop
If you need a high end, large amount of processing laptop, then this is the laptop for you. Infact, my vaio laptop has higher specs than the pc i am using to write this review on! The vaio has wireless internet, a huge screen (17") a built in webcam cam (the web cam is incredibly high quality, i taked to my dad on skype when he was on it, it felt like he was in the room!) and a special fingerprint button. You can save your fingerprints to the laptop, and rather than having to type in time consuming passwords, you simply just rub your finger along the button, and it logs into your account. You can also use this to protect files, so only when the laptop detects you fingerprint, can some files be accessed, which comes in handy. I got a free hands free device and a case with my laptop, which was very useful. (The hands free connected to the laptop via bluetooth, so the vaio can connect to all your bluetooth enable devices as well!) The vaio comes with windows xp, and mine came with free mcaffe internet security as well!
Cons of the vaio
The vaio, due to its high performance, is both a bulky and a heavy laptop, which is fine if you drive to work everyday, as you can just bung it in the back of your car, but if you cycle, walk, or use any public transport, this is not the laptop for you. Also, it is an expensive laptop, due to all the features it has. But by far the biggest problem with this laptop is the battery life, which is only around 1 hour, to 1 hour and a half, so to really use this laptop, you need to carry the charger around with you. The reason the battery life is so low, as all the components (notably the screen) in the Vaio require a lot of energy to run. The batteries are heavy as it is.
This laptop should be seen more like a movable pc, rather than a laptop, as it has all the features a pc would have and more, but it certainly isn't a netbook! If you want a laptop on the move, your are probly best off with something like an asus eee pc, although i have never used this laptop, so you might want to read those reviews!
I hope this review was useful for you
Summary: Good for if you want a high end laptop, not if you want something ultra portbale
