Sony Vaio C1XNOne click of a button launches Smart Capture, software to capture still images and video movies with the integrated 'MOTION EYE' digital camera, which can now capture images at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. So mobile reporting, communication and interaction become visual activities and mobile PC users can enjoy an array of new applications and increase productivity at the same time. When designing the C1XN, Sony's engineers thought of the requirements of frequent travelers who need a mobile PC. Therefore, they wanted to make launching software and controlling the notebook as quick and easy as possible. With Sony's patented 'Jog Dial' they found the ideal solution. Users can now launch applications, switch from still to motion capture or adjust special effects for example, just by turning and clicking the Jog Dial. Once documents and pictures are stored on the hard drive, Sony's 3D CyberCode software helps user to find and open them again. To launch a document to which the user has already added a dedicated CyberCode, all the user has to do is pass the code from the printed version across the path of the 'MOTION camera EYE' and the document opens automatically. Up to 10 million pre-recorded codes to files or functions such as changing the background image on the screen, can be used. Sony's PictureGear Software not only enables users to organize and browse images, but also to adjust brightness and contrast, create simple animations or a panorama shot up to 360 from digital still images. Sony Vaio GRT915M
Vaio laptop with excellent screen and good build quality. (336 words)by Gareth Young - written on 23/03/08
Rating:
ports (only 2 of which are 2.0 I think). The on-board wireless networking is useful and works well, other features that I ve not used include firewire and a Sony memory stick drive. The lack of a serial port could annoy some users. I ve also set this up with a Linux kernel - difficulties here involve changing the brightness of the display (done in XP by specialist sony software) and changing the volume (for the same reasons). I had to NDISwrap the wireless driver to get that to work. The 0.5 gig of RAM is reasonable, but annoyingly comes in 2x256M modules so you have to change both to get more memory. Build quality is reasonable - its been fairly badly abused in my ...

slight hardware or Sony software problem. Strong performance of 2.7ghz processor is backed up by reasonable amount of RAM memory (512mb). From my personal experience it was enough for all the applications I was running on this computer. High resolution screen is also a perk, very nice to watch DVDs and videos on it. Another ...

and when I store my Vaio in its carrying case, I have to remove it. To solve the problem of the ports you might want to buy the optional Sony Vaio Port Replicator: watch your wallet !! Weight: Too Heavy:3,8 Kg (ac adaptor not included). This is a desktop replacement, not a laptop (if you are a frequent-flyer do not buy it, and go for something not more than 2Kgs). Hard disk: Noisy Hard disk :keeps clicking....you might solve the problem by defragmenting periodically your files. Memory: 256 Mb are not enough : you need to buy additional 256Mb to run games properly and to watch DVD without The jog dial is not a va ...
