A popular laptop, the Sony Vaio features a large screen and very powerful, fast performance. It is well designed and reasonably priced. However, it may be a little bulky for some and errors can occur.

      A very good quality laptop.

I bought this laptop about a year ago and I can't complain. I usually find that laptop batteries don't last long on train journeys but I haven't had this battery die on my journeys to and from Uni yet. I've also found that the processor speed is maintained even when using a lot of programmes at once, or a game with lots of extra content that would usually affect working speed of other downloads etc. My only complaint would be the Vaio help bar that appears along the top of the screen when you scroll near the top of a page. I've ended up clicking on this many times when trying to close a page instead, and it's an unnecessary inconvenience trying to close the help bar and the page that you had originally intended to close. However, overall, the laptop is a fantastic quality and I don't plan to change for a while!

Good laptop for me - a student - no problems with battery

I bought this laptop last summer for me to take to university, as my old one was about 6 years old and couldn't cope any more!

I have been so happy with it, I did have one problem but i just looked up the problem online and it was very simple to fix just by using the vaio care system I had fixed it within an hour.

I find the battery life is very good, I take it to my lectures with me and it can last for my whole 4 hours of lectures in a row, if I have the screen brightness turned down!

The screen is a nice size, and a good quality and I would also say the sound quality is pretty amazing. The laptop can go pretty loud without a need for speakers, so I hardly ever need speakers. I can play music loud enough and films as well so that I do not need a speaker.

It is quite heavy and awkward to carry around, but with a laptop bag it isn't too bad. If you want one that is portable I suggest finding something smaller, or a tablet with a keyboard.

I think this is a very good laptop for what I use it for, I cannot comment on how good it would be for people wishing to use it for gaming etc. but for watching films, writing essays and notes, listening to music, using the internet it is very good and has a lot of space!

        Great laptop

This Christmas I decided to treat myself to a new laptop -afterall the chances of actually recveiving one as a present were minimal! I have had my old laptop for many years and it had recently been running very very slowly and ten it upon itself to switch to a different page just when I was in the middle of doing something - very frustrating. Up until this point though the laptop had not given me a moments difficulty, so I decided to opt for the same make, a Sony Vaio.
The only other essential on my list of criteria was a 17inch screen. I do a lot of writing so it was important fo me to have a larger screen to make life a little easier, and be kinder to my deteriorating eyes. So the search began for a Sony Vaio with a 17inch screen, at a reasonable price of course! T =his splendid laptop was the result.

        Appearance & Ease of Use

The laptop looks really smart; it is simple and stylish closed and opened. The 'qwerty' keyboard is as you would expect, with an extra number block adjacent which I find so handy. Even the actual keys press down well - they take no effort to press down but you are able to feel if they have been pressed hard enough to produce the required letter/action. The built in mouse has a slightly rough surface which gives great control and is not so sensitive that an accidental brush past it moves the cursor. I am also happy that extra pressure to the movement part of the mouse doesn't act as a left click, as it did on my previous laptop. Again, this lack of feature is great and helps avoid frustrating accidents.

        Setting up

I am no computer whizz so I was a little concerned about how I would switch to using a new laptop when I was so used to my older one. It was however, absolutely straight forward. It simply required plugging in, following given instructions to connect it on-line, loading on the anti-virus software and it was good to go. The computer was supplied with 2 manuals - one for a basic, quick set up and one troubleshooting manual (which even I didn't need to look at!) and also instructions as to how to get full instructions of use on the laptop itself, which I found were unnecessary, but it's nice to know they're there if needed.

        Speed

This is one of the main factors I love abput the laptop - it's so fast. Whether it seems so fast is because I'm, comparing it to my tortoise-like previous one I'm not sure, but I am delighted with the speed of everything. Websites appear almost instantly, and downloads seem to take no time at all. Checking my emails used to be a long job; now it's done in 1 minute flat.

        Portability

It's a laptop, so obviously one of its selling points is the fact that it can be transported around the house, or elsewhere if there is an internet connection. The larger screen makes it a larger laptop of course, which in turn makes it a bit heavier to carry, but it doesn't make a difference in my eyes. A full battery will give approximately 5 hours of wireless use which I am pretty impressed with.

        Memory

As a non-computer expert I can't confidently give the technicalities but I have been assured that this laptop has a HUGE memory and has ample space to store all my writing documents, personal documents, photos, videos, music and more. What I use my computer for means I don't need a massive memory, but knowing that it will never ever be a problem is wuietly reassuring.

        Value for Money

The store where apparently giving a £200 discount on the laptop, making it £550. I say apparently as I am a little dubious as to whether in-store discounts are real! Nevertheless it was exactly what I wanted, and a further offer of a £50 discount secured the sale. The salesman assured me that to get discount on a Sony computer was an achievement as they are such a reputable brand they don't require discounts to sell them.
This is a great purchase, I'm delighted with it and hope to get many many trouble free years of use from it.

          Disadvantages

Not everyone on the market for a 17-inch laptop wants an Ultrabook. Some shoppers would prefer a faster full-voltage Intel processor and a built-in DVD drive. The Sony VAIO E Series 17 offers just that, plus the option to add powerful discrete graphics and an extra-capacity sheet battery. Our configuration sports a 2.5-GHz Core i5 processor, 6GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. While this 3.8-pound machine doesn't have an SSD like Ultrabooks, it does promise to wake from sleep in just 2 seconds. Does this premium thin-and-light notebook satisfy?

Sony VAIO E Series VPC-EC3S0E is a great find. It has everything I need. :)

I and my husband have just purchased this new addition to the E Series. As far as I can say, it has proven itself and lived up to its specs. It is incredibly fast, has a massive saving space, and the best graphics only offered by Radeon.

Our previous Vaio had Nvidia, and that was actually what we were looking for. But when we checked out how cool Radeon is, we need not think twice. So far, I see that it's really good for gaming. Since surfing speed is a big consideration, I want to tell you that I can surf my heart out here with lightning speed, even on WiFi. If you are digging for a new laptop, I highly recommend this baby. Two of my friends bought it after I told them how great it is. They definitely liked it.

Well I guess not. They're loving it. ;)

          very pleased customer.

This laptop is the Usain Bolt of computers. It has all the high specifications you expect from a top of the range laptop these days, the speed is phenominal. It handles multiple programs with ease. Plenty of storage space for music, photos etc. Personally i think its better than more expensive laptops and nearly on par with the Alienware range. Sony has always been a reliable brand in my eyes and have recieved zero faults from them, ever.

Screen size is 15,5 inches big enough to watch movies on or edit pictures/videos and with 1366 x 768 resolution the images are crystal clear. This is the first laptop i have owned that has Windows 7 on, just getting to grips with the software which so far seems easy to use. Far better than Vista which i did not like at all.

If anything i would say the size of the speakers slightly let it down, but the sound quality is still great. 5 star speed & performance, 5 star usability. If you have the money, buy one. The battery life lasts around 4-5 hours which incudes being online i think this is very respectable. Any issues, i would consider buying a new battery. Im pretty certain that the laptop will last a good 5 years if looked after rightly.

One of my favourite laptops, great buy!

This is an amazing laptop, truly one of my favourites!

To start off with, Sony is a great brand and the amazing quality of their products is predictable! It is no different with this laptop. It is most suitable as a desktop substitute due to it's size and weight (3kg) and is not really good for long journeys as the battery life is only 2.5 hours. This Sony laptop is great for gaming as it has a great quality screen and rather good built in audio. Web browsing is very easy and fun, as the 2.53Ghz processor is very fast.

It has a very large 17.3'' wide screen with a very good resolution of 1600x900 which in my opinion is it's most valuable attribute, watching videos and films is great on this laptop! This machine is also great for typing, long essays come easy as a result of the outstanding keyboard with large key buttons and a nice feel to it.The laptop also looks astonishing, it is truly an eye-catching laptop.

I loved using this laptop, as it had everything I needed in a computer and was great the work I done.
I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for a laptop and has a rather high budget.

A good well rounded laptop applying to many different target audiences

          PRODUCT NAME:
          Sony Vaio E Series VPC-EC3S0E/WI

          PRODUCER OF THE PRODUCT:
          Sony

          TARGET AUDIENCE:
Anybody who is after a laptop that is capable of playback of high definition videos, supporting the latest games that are out, light enough to carry around to lectures if your at university, can support multitasking at ease, has enough hard drive space to hold all your backed up work and all your videos and music albums and has a unique finish to it.

          THE PRODUCT IN ONE:
Starting with this laptops screen it has an astonishing 17.3 inches for your eyes to gaze over, and supports a resolution of 1600x900. The laptop supports High Definition playback so this looks great on this size screen when on a laptop, there is a HDMI port embedded into the side of the laptop so if you want to connect it to a bigger monitor or even your television then this is done with a single wire carrying sound and video as apposed to a VGA cable just carrying the video.

The laptop has a processor speed of 2.53ghz and with turbo boost up to 2.80ghz and it has 6GB of DDR3. If you don't know what that means then it basically means that this laptop is a powerful piece of equipment. It is powerful enough to support and play all of the latest games to date and even future games that come out such as the new call of duty's. It can play high definition videos without a problem and you are able to run many different programs at once without the laptop slowing down on you and taking an hour to load.

The overall appearance and usage of this laptop is pretty nice. It has a matte white finish with a silver screen cover, a super smooth keyboard which just feels perfect to write with and a good responsive touchpad which has never let me down. It only weighs 3.3kg including the battery so as I said above it is light enough to carry around to lectures with. The battery life is the biggest down fall of this laptop varying from 2-6 hours of use from a fully charged battery but I guess this is long enough for a lecture and if your at home then just plug the charger in as you have to with most laptops and their appalling battery life.

There is a motion eye built in camera which does the job for webcam and the odd fun photo been only 0.3 mega pixels, it does surprisingly look good for only 0.3 mega pixels though. There is built in speakers which produce pretty loud, clear sounds and there is also a wireless adapter built in allowing you to search and connect to wireless networks.

          PRODUCT RATING:
          4/5

          Disadvantages

Looks beautiful - slim and elegant; sparkles by the key board, white and clean. The processors is wonderfully quick, no hanging about to begin or end a session. And during it this glides through all tasks swiftly. I love it!!Bad PointsSlightly heavier than my husbands, or i'd like - but not heavey at all compared to my last one - a bit of a dinasour! The battery life is not very long, so when im at the gym using it i generally have to wait for a seat next to a plug after a few hours. When not plugged in it semms to run with less performance too. Or is that my imagination? I knew about the weight and battery life before i bought it though - i traded it off for a magnificent prossessor performance and i made the right decision

          Great laptop, very student friendly

I bought myself a sony vaio as my second laptop, when i started university. Before this i had a toshiba, which was quite cheap, and so was slow running, crashed not enough memory etc..

Anyway, this latop was the best part of £600, but worth every penny. I have had it now for two years, had no problems at all. I use it many hours a day, every day for university and for photos, facebook etc.. IT has a great amount of memory, i have loads of work on it, loads of pics, ebooks etc

There are 4usb ports on it, which is fab, as i can have memory stick in, mouse, and camera attachment with one spare!! As it is in white i also think that it is more sophistocated and stands out. With the shiney white key pad, you dont see any wear to it as you do with the black ones. I have also found that the front of the laptop is quite scratch resistant, as i dont keep a case or anything on it, just a laptop carry bag but there are a few scratch marks, but thats it :)

For memory cards there is a handy slot at the front, you can simply push your card in till it clicks, then push it again and it will spring back out, very quick and easy to use as the laptop will load the device itself. There are also two ports on the front of the laptop for a microphone or headphones.

All in all, i think it is a great laptop, it has everything you could want and more.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

I would recommend to friends as a pretty decent laptop. Perhaps slightly overpriced!

I purchased my Sony E Series Laptop in November 2011 and use it on a daily basis. It has a large amount of storage space, is fast and is great to look at. It has a built in webcam which is good quality for a webcam but does not have the greatest picture. It has a widget bar at the top of the page where you can easily access your software and files which is very useful - took me a while to figure out what it was but it is great! Running the laptop on batter power without connecting to electricity does not last long at all but what laptop really does? This laptop looks fab, very like a mac due to it being white. The sound on the laptop is not the greatest - when up at volume 100, its not overly loud so when I am listening to music with friends, I plug in speakers to get a better sound.

Overall, I would recommend this laptop to my friends as it does everything you expect from a SONY laptop and has additional built-in features you may not get with other laptops such as the webcam and bluetooth.

Does everything as expected, worth the buy for any casual laptop user

Having previously owned a Dell laptop (a make which I couldn't be forced to return to) I didn't really have that high an expectation of what a laptop should offer. This laptop seemed to have the best specs at a price I was willing to pay (could afford), and the white colour which I was yearning for, not having the budget to afford a reasonable Macbook (one for the future I guess). Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with this laptop, the large screen is wonderful for watching videos on, with the quality being as good as my television (which is also new I should add). The 6GB of RAM is more than enough for casual browsing, gaming or any other computing needs and am yet to experience a problem with this. A problem encountered with my previous Dell laptop was it's fimsyness (it's a word), opening and closing the screen became problematic during the end of my use of it. This laptop is definitely more robust, I accidentally dropped it recently and found no damage (I'm not encouraging dropping it on purpose, but it's nice to know). Overall, I am delighted with this purchase and would recommend this or any other Sony Vaio laptop to anyone looking for a new laptop.

          Advantages

          • Reliability

          Disadvantages

the positives outweigh the negatives, Sony's best product to date.

I already had a Sony VAIO Computer (VGN FW11E), which although I still use frequently, was on the verge of packing in. However, despite my old one not being th emost durable, Sony's VAIO E-Series has been very popular of late, and at one point completely loved mine, so I decided to replace it with a newer model in the same series. The VAIO VPC-EC3S0E is stylish and modern, whilst running effectivly and quickly. Using white and silver plastics, it looks every bit the high-end home media centre and looks great in any environment, - for me my room.

It has an amazing screen, really big, so good for interaction, and yet is still light. Which is surprising. With its huge 17.3-inch screen this is a laptop designed strictly for home use, it would because of this be little use for university or work. At 3.1kg, it is light, but not light enough to justify lugging it about town for lectures and such. Of course, the benefit of such a large screen is the excellent multi-tasking and multimedia abilities it provides. Multiple windows can be placed side by side with ease and movies and photos look great, thanks to the stunning brightness, colour and contrast the screen provides. The screen has an amazingly high resolution, so images and crisp and clear. While it is not fully HD compatible, it renders software, photos and videos with impressive clarity, adding to the entertainment ability of this machine.

Its Intel Core i5 processor runs software with effortless speed and makes it easy to multi-task several applications at once.

Usability is excellent. The wide chassis provides enough room for a full-sized, isolation-style keyboard and features a dedicated numeric keypad. I love the keyboard because of the isolated style. Not only does it look attractive, modern and ultimately expensive, it so easy to type on and to use.Adding to the value of the Sony is its excellent software. Microsoft Office Starter provides market-leading word processing and spreadsheet tools, while McAfee Internet Security will help to keep your laptop safe against the plethora of online threats currently out there.

It's also so fast! Like extremely fast, the speed of the processers is unreal.

However the battery power for me is a definite downfall, when I first bought the laptop, I was running on a battery life of maybe 5 and half, 6 hours? However now, depsite it only being 4 months after my initial purchase, i'm lucky to get 2 hours from full charge. Another downside of this model is the sound. Honestly, I can barely hear it! The volume level just doesn't suffice, there is no other way to describe it.

Despite the downfalls, offfering stunning big-screen usability and ample software, the VAIO VPCEC3S0E/WI is a fantastic laptop. While it lacks the sound or battery life of some of its rivals, there is more than enough to compensate, making it a brilliant home office edition.

          worth a risk

My knowledge of IT is fairly poor, but when i first got the laptop i was impressed. It seemed to be very quick and efficient at loading. This was coupled with a very stylish design. I also found it to be relatively lightweight, making transportation very easy. The screen on this laptop is also fantastic, great for watching movies and gaming. In terms of gaming the vaio isnt the quickest laptop, but it managed to cope with many games, and on the screen they looked fantastic. However soon i began to experience tons of problems with the vaio. This might not mean all vaios are bad by any means, but after a while it had slowed down so much , it was unbearable. This may well have been due to virus's but my friend had the same problem. The battery also diminished rapidly, to the point i have to permanently plug it in. Despite my problems, id still recommend this laptop. At the start this laptop was great and if this had continued id be raving about this product. The problems ive experienced might not be endemic for every vaio, therefore id consider this product.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Brilliant!

I got this laptop to replace my last Sony VAIO, and I have found they have improved their range since. The touch pad is textured which makes it easier to use, the keypad is better spaced, but I feel it is lacking a 'Display Off' button, but that only affects me as I use a second screen for streaming media. It has 3 USB ports, which is ample for an mp3 player, mobile and camera at all times. The laptop is very fast, and I have so far had no problems with it. The hard drive is perfectly capable to cope with all normal needs, I have managed to put all of my thousands of songs onto my computer and the hard drive is barely touched. Also, an increase in the capacity has not slowed the computer down. It loads up in less than a minute, even with many programs on start-up.

I would recommend this to many people, unless you have a special need for a super-computer, this should work for anyone, loads of space, really fast, and enough ports for everyday use.
