      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Positives are performance and looks: It is a slick looking machine with a high quality screen, and the Core2Duo with 2Gb of RAM stand up to the demands of todays desktop software easily. HDMI output is also a plus.As a desktop replacement; something to be used indoors and moved between places, I can recommend it. However anyone wanting a machine to use on-the-go I would say forget it - the battery life wasn't great when new... and it's downhill from there - batteries completely die after about 6 months. My company bought 3 of these machines and none of them work on their batteries now for more than a minute.

      Sony Viao

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Sony Viao for life.
      ------------------------------------------------------------

I have my the Sony Vaio FZ21E a few years now and I still find it one of the best laptops I have ever had. I already wanted a Sony Viao because I heard from friends and family that it was a very good laptop to have. Before I bought this laptop I had a few requirements which might sound a little bit outdated at the moment:

Windows Vista ( I now have Windows 7 which works perfect)
      Fast Processor
Large and fast hard drive (very important to check the speed of the hard drive)
      Price (less than 1200)

      ------------------------------------------------------------
How is the laptop in use?
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The laptop is very easy to use from the very beginning when I got the laptop and had to install the laptop. When you first start the laptop the software takes you step by step trough the installation process and most goes automatically. You hardly have to do anything and the best thing is you don't need any CD's or DVD's. All the basic software is stored on the laptop itself. The installation of the laptop takes around 1,5 hour, which I thought was a little bit long and it wasn't even the installation of Windows which took the most time. It was more all the additional software you get with this laptop, which is right away the first negative about the Sony Viao. You get like Disney games, a trial Microsoft Office and a trial Norton Anti-virus which I founded very annoying, because I really don't need these things. So these programs makes the installation take a while and they aren't even optional. So after installing them, you need in uninstall them, which will again take a few minutes before that's done. After the installation the laptop is done and ready to be used.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
Hows the screen of the laptop?
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The screen on the laptop is 15.4 inches and is very good! The resolution I have is 1200x1800 and is very sharp. Also if you look from the side to the screen, it's still clearl. Ideal if you have multiple people watching a movie! Of course you need to keep it clean, because you do gets stains, like fingerprints, very easily.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Keyboard / touchpad
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The keyboard feels soft and nice while typing. The beauty is that the top of the keyboard you got a part with some simple functional multimedia buttons that are for music / movies when you play them with Windows Media Player. Not too much, but just simple play / stop and forward / backward and volume up and down. In addition is the on / off switch. The mouse control is via the touchpad with 2 mouse buttons left and right. It's getting use to it in the beginning, but very easy to use.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Housing
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The housing of the laptop is very solid. He feels strong and I dropped the laptop once from about 1.5 meters high, but nothing happened. The outside looks neat in a gray color and something different then the usual black.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Performance
      ------------------------------------------------------------

So I have Windows 7 on the laptop and doing well! Starting up the laptop is fast and while using windows, I really don't have any problems. I mainly use the laptop for the Internet, watching movies and the occasional game. The webcam / microphone / DVD player are doing well. I also use programs like Firefox, MSN, Microsoft office suite, Adobe Reader and Photo shop without any problems. The hardest game I've played is The Sims 2 with all expansion packs. Must say it felt a little bit slow. Especially with the launch of the game, but during the game it's. A downside of the laptop is that it gets very warm while using the laptop for a few hours. I heard this is a common problem with the laptop, but still very uncomfortable when you have the laptop on your legs!

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Additional Features
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The laptop has a built-in webcam with microphone, which you can refine with supplied software. The webcam and microphone sit at the top of the screen. I'm never a fan of the Internet calling, but you need to pretty loud to make yourself understandable. Webcam does go well and you get a sharp image.

Furthermore you have a built-in modem and a wireless network which works good. The only thing I miss is the Blutooth which this laptop doesn't have. Also there is no Blue-ray on this laptop, but I don't really miss that.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Connections
      ------------------------------------------------------------

You have connections for your headphones, microphone, and also you have three USB ports. You have a LAN connection port and also you have HDMI, S-Video, VGA Out and tt the front of the laptop is a card reader.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Speakers
      ------------------------------------------------------------

The sound from the speakers is excellent for a laptop I think. The sound is not great, but have no qualms about music on the speakers or a movie. For better sound you better use your headset.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Battery
      ------------------------------------------------------------

Always very important for a laptop! The battery was good in the beginning. You could easily use the laptop for 1.5 hours while watching a film on the train. Unfortunately it's a lot less now. I think I should be happy with half hour in the so-called "energy friendly" mode, here is the brightness of the screen a lot darker. I believe this with all laptops often a problem, but it is still regrettable.

      ------------------------------------------------------------
      Conclusion
      ------------------------------------------------------------

Very easy and fast laptop with good performance! Have absolutely no regret that I bought this laptop and after a few years of usage yes the battery may be really short right now, but I didn't really expect anything else.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A nice machine that sadly has several fundamental flaws - do not purchase!

        This laptop falls apart!!

I've had so many problems with it in the year that I've owned it - I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The disc drive is very temperamental - as I type it is not working! Additionally, the speakers sometimes just stop working, very randomly, then come on again without warning. The battery life is also very, VERY poor.

A positive aspect of this laptop is that it is very fast and can handle many applications at once. I love music so am constantly downloading from the internet and this seems to have no effect on other applications such as watching movies, using word or playing games.

When they are working, the speakers are very loud and the controls for music on the keyboard are wonderful.

Sadly, despite all the positive aspects of this machine, I have to stick to my guns and advise you against purchasing one - it is too unreliable and I'm sure there are other cheaper and superior machines out there.

Well worth the money if you want a durable laptop

I bought this laptop last year and it works really well, it loads up within minutes. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo, running at 2GHz, which is a good speed, considering it's dual core (which is about 40% quicker than single core). The 2GB RAM is good enough for online gaming as well as surfing the net, without experiencing any problems whatsoever. It is also possible to expand the memory to 4GB max, so in a way they have made it future proof. The 160GB hardrive is more than adequate for storing many word documents, music and video's, however, can be expanded.

When I bought this laptop it had one of the best graphic cards around, for all you gamers out there, this is a definite bonus! To this day, I have not encountered any game/program that doesn't support it.

The range on the wifi is pretty good. The fact that i can plug into LCD TV is an excellent feature. DVD quality is excellent due to the full HD (1080) capability. Brilliant screen size (15.4" TFT 1280x800). It looks smart and sleek and has good solid keys. The keyboard spacing is adequate, for a laptop.

The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium edition, which complements the machine.

The portability of the laptop is great. The Webcam provides an excellent feature, which I make full use of in conjunction with Skype. The integrated camera is 1.3 megapixel, which suffices, but you can always go further and add an external one.

On the downside, the laptop screen attracts alot of dust due to it being the black screen addition. The battery life is limited to about an hour, depending on how many programs you're running. You would expect a laptop of this price to have bluetooth capability, but sadly this doesn't and it is a feature that I would like to have seen. It is quite pricey, but if you want quality, this is it. When I bought this laptop ot retailed at around £800 but you can pick one up now for just over £600.

A good notebook for listening to music, watching films, and browsing online.

The Sony Vaio FZ21E is perhaps one of the easiest laptops I've ever used. The laptop has a 15.4" monitor with X-black LCD giving you a world of crisp, clean colour. The FZ series all have sleek, sexy aesthetics and are very user friendly.

The notebook has dedicated graphics and shared graphics, making this an amazing media computer. You get gorgeous results when watching movies, high definitive images flash across your screen and you're left only in awe. The FZ21E has the Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7250, Supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology making it a very fast and intelligent laptop. Along with its amazing CPU stats, the memory on it is immense giving you up to 4GB.

The FZ21E comes with Windows Vista Home Premium, and a 90 day trial of Norton Security. You also get a trial of Microsoft Office, a family-loved software program that deals with spreadsheets, word documents, and much more.

This notebook is mainly for entertainment purposes such as viewing movies and being creative, but it has all the normal programs that have been provied from Windows on all computers. Wireless is enabled on the notebook, connecting you to the internet the moment you switch on.
A brilliant piece of technology, a reccommended product.

The only bad thing that I've experienced with this laptop is that vista errors constantly. The time stops and when you click on the task bar, the screen glitches. Not such a good thing, it can be really really annoying when you're working on something important.
