Advantages: Large, clear, bright screen
Disadvantages: Low end graphics chip
The Sony Vaio N38Z/White is the perfect companion for anyone needing a notebook/laptop to use around the home or school or for a entire desktop replacement.
Colour and appearance
The Sony Vaio N38Z/White has a completely white top (screen/monitor area) and a silver/chrome base (keyboard area). It has a premium, polished feel to it. The build quality is excellent, as there are no creaks or noises coming from the materials used on the casing. The top area (screen/monitor) has a smooth feel to it with the wording "VAIO" embossed with "Sony" above it. The keyboard has white keys with a dark grey colouring.
Screen
The screen on the Sony Vaio N38Z/White (or any Vaio, to be honest) is superb. Colours are exact and fresh, and the brightness is clear. Watching YouTube videos and DVD's are a joy on the 15.4" screen.
Graphics
The graphics on the N38Z/White are not brilliant, but are not bad either. The N38Z contains a Intel GMA 950. The GMA 950 is able to play low graphics demanding games such as the Sims 2, but will not be able to play higher end card demanding games such as Crisis. The GMA 950 works perfectly for all the Windows Vista experiences and effects, such as the transparent windows ('glass' effect/aero) and Flip3D.
Speed and performance
The N38Z performs extremely well. It has a 1.6GHZ dual core processor, and 2GB RAM (4GB expandable). I can do absoulutely everything multi-tasking. For example, I can have dozens of Photoshop documents open, internet browsers, word processors, music players and video players all running simultaneously without any problems.
The keyboard and touchpad.
The keyboard is one of the best keyboards I have ever used personally. The keys are all evenly spaced out, and are flush with the casing. The touchpad is great and responsive, however it sometimes stops working for a few minutes due to heat or moisture I have found.
Battery
I am usually able to get about an hour and a half to two hours, doing usual requests (word processing, browsing the internet, watching videos).
Overall the N38Z is a great laptop, apart from it's low end graphics chip.
Summary: Overall the N38Z is a great laptop, apart from it's low end graphics chip.
