After purchasing this laptop back in March 2008 for college I have been utterly surprised by this product. First off its a Vaio which in my opinion always have been overpriced and lacking in features. Second I was slightly disappointed that Sony decided to put so much rubbish onto the laptop in the first place.
Lets really start off with looks - I love the laptop's shape and feel and think it is a marvel to enjoy aesthetically, the curved edges and rough case make it seem alot friendlier to use and do impress people when taking it around with you.
Features/Spec - After a year the technology has moved on so fast that my laptop is already out of date and you can get laptops for £400 with more RAM, better CPU and some with inbuilt Blueray. I was impressed with the spec at the time and it runs Vista with little trouble.
Programs installed - as with most laptop it came pre installed with the same manufacture rubbish you expect and most of it was utterly pointless and useless, for one it had Norton 360 which is about as much use a chocolate teaspoon. Another annoyance was the 60 day trial of Microsoft Office 2007 which takes ages to sort out and much easier to install from the CD you purchased for the licence key. The music software is also an utterly pointless program that wants to take ages to search for newly added tracks every time you import some using WMP or iTunes. Vaio smart network also seems to do nothing and if you try to set up a network it fails and you end up doing it the Windows way which is quicker and works.
Battery - the battery life does seem a bit too short and extra one cost as much as the product itself but 2hrs is fine for quick presentations without power and you should be able to watch a film on it (not tried). The supplied power pack gets a bit hot and the power input is now wobbly and so does not fair too good on this.
Overall a great laptop for the student or average home user but not so good for games or graphic design. More experienced users would not even consider this laptop as its specs and overall performance do not match up to expectations of the user.
If you plan to use this for watching films, word processing and presentations then this is the ideal laptop for you but if you want something more 'beefy' look elsewere
I have had this sony vaio for over a year now and it is been a great buy. I am really happy with everything and haven't had a single problem since i bought it. The only downside to the laptop was that it came with Windows Vista. I'm not a big fan and i find it very difficult to to access and play around with settings and the configuration of your laptop like you could with XP. The laptop looks very stylish and beautiful and i like the textured grey finish. I find the keyboard and mouse very easy to use. The mouse is a touchpad which is pretty standard these days. The touchpad is sensitive but very easy to use, unlike previous laptops where the touchpad gets confused and is cumbersome to use. The sound quality is good but as with most laptops the sound isn't quite loud enough to watch dvds. The quality of the picture is brilliant and the laptop can easily handle playing dvds and games without any hassle.
The battery life is pretty good but as time goes by the battery life is shortening. To get the best out of the battery, i keep the power on the poer save option when not plugged in. This is not the lightest laptop but as i use it around my home i haven't had any difficulties with the weight.
Overall i am really happy with this laptop and would recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable laptop for day to day use and gaming.
I love my Sony Vaio Laptop. It is definitely one of a kind; my mum bought it for me for my birthday which has been quite a while now.
I got into the shop and saw different laptops with different makes but still felt something was missing with all the ranges. I asked for help from one of the advisers and she showed me the Sony Vaio Ultra Mobile. I was definite that I wanted this as it was all I wanted in a laptop. I bought it because of its style and elegance and what put the icing on the cake was its natural color (green).
The technical specification was also quite good seeing as its got 2GB RAM meaning it is quite fast and can multitask quickly, its also got 200GB hard drive which is quite a lot of space, I cant even use it all lol! It's got 15.4 inches screen display and it is incorporated with wireless communications such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. I got it for £699 which is a good price when looking at the laptop features and customizability. It also comes with the new Operating System Vista Home.
I took my laptop home and I can't seem to love it enough as it makes me happy and all tingly inside with its sight. The laptop keys have a modern and sleek feeling towards it. The ergonomics are good too. The keyboard is not noisy, has a decent amount of travel and makes extended typing sessions easy. The battery has a long life span; I could stay on it without having to worry if it would go off one me. My Sony Vaio is got the complete package, as it is all I want in a laptop.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOMEONE NON TECHY AND WHO'S LAST LAPTOP WAS 5YEARS OLD !!!
Well firstly I'm writing this review on it so that's a good sign. We've had this for about 4 to 5 months now and had know problems at all. Now i no it's early days but does every thing we need it to. If you want a nice sized screen then this is definatley good for that, it kind of gives you the widescreen effect giving the illusion that it's big which is bizarre to me considering our last laptop's screen was bigger . . . but whatever, i also found that it's brighter than most when you haven't got it plugged in, which is great as at least your eyes don't strain so much. Very quick to load, but this will always depend on how much software you have on your PC. It includes a CD writer which is a bit quicker than a laptop of 5 years old. It's really comfortable to type on this aswell, for some reason I find some other laptops really uncomfortable, like your hands are continuously shaped like a claw. It is also good for media based projects i.e. burning music to cd's, connecting your phone and pictures etc, mainly because that is what this laptop is aimed at, if this is your thing then this is an ideal purchase.
Sharp and bright 15.4" widescreen X-black LCD display for natural looking pictures
