I brought a sony vaio and had it for a few years mine was a silver vgn-nr38m it had a 2gb of memory 250gb hard drive was a 15.4 inch screen and i used it so much i am amazed it never set on fire. Due to someone dropping a drink over it when they were using it before that moment it run like a dream which is exactly how you imagine a product like sony to opperate. The screen size is quite large for what the computer cost me £400 ish seamed fine as the computer i had before was a packard bell and that was like a cheaper starter computer for me as i was not majorly interested or had any need for one.
Over the years my interest and need for laptops has increased amazingly to the point where its an everyday part of my life so you could imagine how naffed off i was when my sony broke. It was everything you could think of and for the spec pretty fast and reliable and due to the screen size it made watching films and using youtube a dream as even film quaility didnt lose much if anything compared to using a dvd player and tv.
I would highly reccomend anyone to get one as they are simple to use and for what you would pay for this model now it would be a steal for how it performs. Gaming is one aspect it will not be so strong on but that would be down to needing an uprated graphics card for the mass of information if you were playing a game like command and conquer and had loads of troops and tanks charging around fighting on screen.
If you need a computer to surf the internet msg you friends and watch some youtube this is perfect for you whereas if you are taking on the gaming world online then its not for you but i am pretty sure that people like that normally know and understand the kind of spec you need from you computer to do that.
The only downside as with any computer is battery life can decrease rapidly if you forever have yours on charge and do not drain the battery much.
Thanks for reading this i will read your revies as soon as i can.
I have had this computer just over 2 years now and it is still plodding alone quite well. I originally had a Dell with a 25GB hard drive and it only lasted 2 years and I had to get a new laptop because a snail pace was fast compared to the speed of my Dell (even with additional RAM!). So having a laptop with a 200GB hard drive was heaven.
As a university student this laptop has definitely been put through its paces. Both typing, internet use, playing games and watching DVDs. Unfortunately my 'B' key hasn't survived and has fallen off, so the appearance of my laptop isn't quite what it was. However, I can still use the B without the key. I wouldn't say the keys are the best in the world, but all the other 86 keys have lasted so far.
The screen is excellent and the picture is very clear. It is a good size screen, and perfect for watching DVDs and streaming.
The memory holds a LOT! I have all of my uni work on here, 4000 songs and about 50 videos, hundreds of photographs and I've still got 84GB left!
Another problem I have had is with battery life, but that is because it wasn't a known fact that the battery life is reduced if you keep it on charge constantly! (That's my defence anyway!). So minus the keys and battery, this laptop has been put through one hell of a test and is still doing just fine after 2 years.
When I first chose this laptop, I chose it for several features - the looks, the make, and of course the features.
I chose a Sony mainly because of the brand, because I assumed it would be reliable, and would last long, as well as being good quality. I also love the look of this laptop - it looks really sleek, and its pretty slim, so you can slip it into a handbag (for girls!) although it might have to be quite a big handbag! it easily fits into any laptop case as well
the bad thing i would say about the looks is the 'dimpled' surface on the computer - i've had the laptop for a while, and it's got a bit dirty in the 'dimples'. however, if you avoid food around the computer and give it a wipe now and again, it should be ok
Another really good point about this laptop is the screen - it is great, and I think the quality of images is increased on this screen, and watching movies is really good.
I haven't given this computer 5/5 on all the features because it would be better with a camera or webcam, as my existing webcam isn't compatible with this computer. but that's personal choice, and not necessary
lastly, i've had this computer for a while, and it has slowed down quite a lot, although i think we all expect this from a computer after a while
I have previously reviewed my first laptop, a Dell, and if you have read my review you will know that I was fairly unimpressed by it. So when I had finally saved up some pennies, I decided the time had come to buy a brand new laptop, which would hopefully work!
I had decided that I wanted a Sony laptop, as while my old one wasn't working I had often used my boyfriend's Sony Vaio, and had always been very impressed with it, and how fast and easy it was to use.
I chose this particular model, the NR38M, as it was one of the cheapest in the range, costing around £400. Despie this price, it didn't seem to lack any features of some of the other Sony Vaios available.
It has a 250gb hardrive, and 2gb of memory, which is more than ample for my needs. The screen is 15.4", which is adequate or watching films or tv shows on. I won't bore you with any more technical detail than that, and that is about all of the specification that I understood!
It has a very nice design, it comes in silver, and its casing is textured, which makes it look really nice. Overall, it looks very smart and sophisticated.
Set up of the laptop was very straightforward, one you turn it on, it gives step my step instructions as to what to do to get it all going. I'm not a very technical person, and I managed it with no problems or confusion.
Then you're all ready to go! I've been using my laptop for around 9 months now, and it is still as good as when I bought it. I use the computer everyday, so it has had a lot of use, and seems to be holding up just fine. Admittedly, I don't use a lot of features and memory on the computer, I just use the laptop for browsing the internet, watching films and playing music, but it has been perfect for all of these things.
I mostly have the computer plugged in to the mains, but on the occasions I have used the battery, it seems to have lasted quite well. It also gives a countdown from when there is about 20% of the battery remaining, telling you how much is left, and how much time you have left before it runs out.
In my opinion, this is a perfect laptop for day to day internet usage and bits and pieces. If you're looking to run huge programmes and run games etc, you will probably need something with a higher spec than this, but for me it's just right. The computer is fast, opens programmes when you ask it to, and turns on and off very quickly (again, if you have read my Dell review, you will see what a novelty this is for me!).
If you're looking for a not too expensive, but good quality laptop, this is a good one to go for.
i purchased this laptop back in january i do not know a lot about computers but it is really easy to set up and get started. you get the windows vista programme whitch is a lot better then normall windows the only bad thing is that it is only the 90 days trial which i wasnt aware off and you then have to buy the full version which cost around £90 but you can get it on offer if you look about.
the laptop does have a lot off memory it has a 17inch screen which is the right size it is very lightweight to travel with and also very stylish
the only problem i have had is i coulnt get the internet on item as the wirless lan button ont he front had broken.
sony has a helpline no which i called and they were great they got an engerniere to fix the problem and it has been great since defo worth purchasing even if you do not use a computer a lot of it is cheap
This new laptop form the Sony viao range, is the newest in technology and takes the design and looks of laptops to the next level.
This laptop is from the viao range, a range of laptops made my sony, and all of which have great design qualities and I think all of which look fantastic.
Another great thing about this, is the possibility of getting the laptop in different colours. This just makes the laptop you get that little bit more personal and look better to you.
This laptop is great for watching movies, viewing photos on and for listening to music on. I also put it through its paces on playing games, and even the newest of games played really well on this fantastic laptop.
It has an intel GMA X3100 graphics processor and has dynamic video technology 4.0, with the total graphics memory available is 251mb. So this is great for running games and it is all up to date technology too.
This runs on windows vista home premium, which is a lot better than vista basic as you can get the aero theme and some extra programs and features installed from the start.
The installed ram on this laptop is great, it has a massive 2gb, which certainly helps the laptop run so fast, also the Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310 / 1.46 Ghz processor, which features Enhanced SpeedStep technology defiantly helps making this laptop so quick on running demanding programs.
The great things don't stop there, this laptop also has a great 160gb hard drive, this is a lot more than you really need on a laptop, and is great for storing all your music, videos and photos on, as well as all those work files you might need as well.
This sony has a 15.4\" TFT active matrix screen, which to be honest could be a 17 inch screen and it would be so much better.
If it was that little bit bigger it would be better for watching movies on, and playing games on, and these are two things it does really well, so it's a little disappointing that the screen isn't that little bit bigger.
However the screen being a little bit smaller does make it more portable, this laptop only weighs 2.8 kg, and feels so light when you pick it up.
However what makes up for this screen is that it features X-black technology. This gives you better brightness, better contrast and clarity and wider viewing angles. This works excellent in all lighting conditions.
This laptop also features an 4 in 1 card reader, this can read any of: SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo.
This is tucked away nicely into the laptop and just makes transferring pictures from digital cameras so much easier than having to connect everything with wires.
All together then, this laptop is great for anyone who wants something that's built fantastic and looks amazing too.
If you want something that run really fast, and for under £500 then this has got to be the one for you. If you are thinking about spending that much on some one for Christmas, then I really do advise this laptop to anyone.
It will last them a really long time and will never let them down in the long run, it really is worth every penny.
Also it is great for gaming and watching movies on too, so if you are into gaming then you wont be disappointed when you buy this laptop.
A very good laptop. For someone who is looking for something not too expensive and something that works well, this is the perfect latop. Easy to use and comes with some good features too. 1.8 GHz processor is more than enough power and alows you to run multiple programs at the same time.
A massive 250GB hard drive is loads of space and can easily store all your music, videos and documents. Comes with Viusta Home Premium, which is a good operating system. Makes the whole windows experience all that better.
Has a lovely 15.4 inch TFT widescreen. Which is fantastic for wathcing movies. Not to mention the 1280 x 800 resolution, which makes the quality of the screen excellent.
All in all a very good laptop and at a very good price. Does everything you need it to do and at with great ease too. Also looks very nice as well :)
This is a pefect computer for the average person. Buying anything more expensive than this is simply a waste of moeny.
As soon as bought this i loaded it up with my songs, videos, chat programs, web browser and other fun things. This computer responded as expected. It still works as fast as the first day I bought it.
2GB of RAM make you fly no matter how many things you are doing at the sam time. the processor 1.8 is not impressive but there is no chance that you will slow down this computer if you are the average user.
Lots of Hard Drive space, I love it.
The most important thing about this PC is that it is easy to bring it back to its factory settings. Let's say after two years it slowed down and you are dealing with some anoying viruses that you cant seem to get rif off. Well this PC has an easy couple of steps deal that will allow you to format it and bring it back to how it was when you first got it.
