Sony Vaio NS10L/S
Advantages: Speedy, as good as new, good sound/screen quality
When I graduated from University in 2008, I was left with one rather overused and somewhat outdated laptop. Having started my job, I decided that October of that year would be the time to update my laptop. I spent a long time shopping around, checking out reviews and prices before I settled on this laptop.
My requirements at the time were a 15.4" screen, 250Gb harddrive, decent processing quality/speed, good quality screen and, perhaps most importantly good sound quality (after horrendously tinny speakers on my previous machine). I spotted this model on a number of websites, and I'd heard nothing but good stories about Sony Vaio laptops. So my next step was to locate it in a store and test it out.
And as you will surmise from the fact that I'm writing this review, it lived up to my expectations. I'm writing this review with about 16 months usage, and whilst this is admittedly 16 months of relatively casual use, in that it is used recretionally in evenings and at weekends, it still lives up to those expectations.
Now I am the sort of person who's very careful with their electrical goods, but it is a sturdy machine, and with the exception of one key falling off (although it was the 'x' key so I can't really put that down to overuse. Relatively easy and inexpensive to locate a new part for the key and replace it however, so a minor issue) it's as good as new, aesthetically as well as funcionally.
It's a speedy machine, and I have used a good 3/4+ of the hard drive space. Starts up very quickly, loads everything speedily and runs acceptably with a number of programmes open (although I will admit that I am not in any sense of the word a gamer, so I can't comment on the functionality in that sense).
I have since upgraded the operating system to Windows 7, but I wasn't unhappy with Vista.
Sound and screen quality are brilliant for my uses, in that I listen to a lot of music and watch a fair amount of DVD's, and I have absolutely no complaints. Battery lasts me a decent two hours, more or less dependng on what I'm doing at the time obviously.
So overall, well worth it's price!
Summary: Great machine for what I'm using it for, no complaints.
