      Sleek and Stylish......

Model: Sony Vaio VGN NW20EF Laptop

      Colour: Silver

Price: I paid £472.00, prices may differ from store to store.

The Sony Vaio VGN NW20EF Laptop is available in three different colours; pink, white and silver. I opted for the silver design, as it's a classic in my opinion and a colour which wouldn't date too quickly.

The first thing which attracted me to the Laptop was the appearance, it as a rigid feel to the outer case with it's brushed aluminum casing which makes it look more expensive. The keyboard is designed like a scrabble style keyboard, very sleek and stylish. The Laptop is comfortable enough to carry around at a weight of 2.7kg and slim dimensions of H29 x W370 x D249mm.

The screen of the Laptop is 15.6 inches, the image quality of the screen is excellent; vibrant colours and sharp image resolutions. It's also easy enough to adjust the screen settings to get it to a brightness/resolution which you're most comfortable with. The battery life lasts approximately four hours once the laptop as been fully charged, this is quite generous especially due to the overall specifications of the machine and is more than enough hours for me.

The main thing I use my laptop for is to browse the Internet which is easy enough to set up, prompt and very speedy. It also comes with a trial version of Windows Office for a few months or so, after the trial as ended you will need to purchase your own, I mainly use Word and Excel but downloaded the free version of open office which works well enough for me and enables me to do the work in which I need to do without feeling the need to fork out for a windows package.

My verdict: The Laptop comes with one years guarantee. I love my laptop, I've had mine for quite a while now and have never had any issues with it. It works brilliantly and as been really reliable. As well as what i've written above t's also very speedy starting up and shutting down which is a huge plus bonus point for me. Great price, brilliant product, a top thumbs up from me.

I thought this extra information (some wasn't included in my review) from Sony would also be useful to those who are thinking of purchasing:

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Amazing laptop for the price it's being offered at.

I got the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20EF/S the week it came out in the UK after my old Acer was starting to come to the end of it's life. I use the laptop for general university work, programming and general web surfing. Due to the nature of my course I spend a lot of time with this laptop and I can certainly say it makes work so much quicker and easier. Right from the start the laptop had a feeling of quality to it. The laptop came with minimal installed applications on it which meant I didn't have to 'de-clutter' it straight out the box like I've had to with past computers. The applications that were included were generally useful and of a higher quality than normally expected.

The physical build quality of the laptop looks and feels very high. The keyboard is very smooth and comfortable to type on. The keys require minimal effort to type and it doesn't feel cramped like some laptop keyboards do. The touchpad is maybe a little bit rougher than I would like but feels very durable. The look of laptop is very modern and sleek. It seems pretty hard-wearing too as despite very intensive use it has only developed a few small scratches on the lid.

In terms of the OS, the laptop came with Windows 7 64-bit pre-installed which is an absolute 'gem' to work with and really streamlines work-flow. Whether installing or running 64-bit or 32-bit applications I've had minimal problems. I've also run Ubuntu 9.10 on the laptop and it was really easy to dual-boot the system. I've had problems removing a single OS from a dual booted system in the past whilst leaving the other untouched but again the quality shines through here where it was as simple as it gets. Whatever OS I've been using the system boots very quickly in my opinion.

As for the electronic hardware I've had no problems at all. The laptop I've got came with 3GB of RAM installed which for my uses is more than enough. The 3GB of RAM was in the form of a 1GB stick and a 2GB stick. I have recently found a matching 2GB stick of RAM lying around so I upgraded the 1GB stick to 2GB giving the laptop a total of 4GB. I didn't feel the system needed this at all for my uses but upgraded it since I could. The upgrade has actually made no noticeable difference. The upgrade was extremely simple as there is a separate access panel on the back for the RAM. It was as simple as removing the old stick, inserting the new stick and booting the system.

Out of the box when this laptop comes to gaming it isn't made to cope with it. I say out of the box because this is before the RAM upgrade, not that I believe it'd make a difference. The laptop handles games such as Counter-Strike Source no problem but struggles with the newer releases of COD. When attempting to run the newer releases of COD the game would be playable but the graphics were not really smooth enough for me. This is most likely due to the integrated graphics card. To ask this laptop to perform as well as a dedicated gaming system would be unfair so I do not hold this against it but I felt it was worth mentioning.

A feature that has really impressed me on this laptop has been the ability to turn the screen off just by pressing a button. I use an extended desktop with an external monitor so when watching films on the external monitor it is really nice just to be able to toggle on and off the in-built monitor.

When rating the laptop I have deducted one point off the reliability. This is because although the laptop has performed flawlessly up until now it is still less than one year old and has yet to show long term reliability. I also deducted one point off the battery life as despite the battery life being very good in my opinion laptops in general still have plenty of room to develop in this area. The battery life with this laptop does seem to just last and last and last.

This is not the fastest computer I've used but is certainly the best quality feeling I've seen recently. For the price I believe it blows it's competition out of the water and is of the quality (not necessarily speed) I would expect from a Dell XPS system which I always thought was in a different league of quality. I have no regrets with this laptop and haven't met anyone else who has said anything bad about it yet. I would certainly recommend this laptop to a friend for similar needs to me without any hesitation.

I adore my Vaio and can't imagine my life without it now!

I received this laptop last for my birthday last year as a first laptop, previously having a dell computer.
First of all, let me say, it really is a work of art; the texture, the definition in the screen, the key pad...the simplicity of it is very chic. I have one in white, as displayed in the description and have had many a compliment when I've taking it to work - (which was a dream as it's so light).
All hardware works fantasticly, I've had no problems whatsoever with keypad, scroll, disk player etc.
It's fast to start up and close down, open programmes and very responsive.
I was very impressed with the camera, expecting it to be a gimic to push you to buy it, I was pleasently surprised when I opened the webcam program and found it to be extremely good quality.
The screen is fantastic, and the widescreen is great for watching movies on, speakers...better than I thought but still a touch tinny, but then again it's only a laptop not a stero, what can you expect?!
Having never had a laptop to work with before I was expecting to have to take some time to get used to it, but in fact, I found it so simple to use and very self-explanitory. Everything on the system is easy to find and there's not really a lot to work out - bonus of no hours of manual reading!
Battery life is...average I'd say, I haven't ever seen anyone use a laptop and not complain about how quickly the battery is being drained, I keep it plugged in the majority of the time and I find it lasts roughly 2/3hr internet browsing.
I love it, buyers will not be disappointed!

Good Decent, Reliable Laptop..which is what u need.

I brought one of these recently from Currys for £550, as my old laptop a DELL just over a year old, there for out of guarntee had broken.I am a college student and wanted a good decent laptop, to ensure my college and Alevel work was safe and i had a decent laptop to reli on. My dad has this laptop, and has never had a problem. Everything seems to be going really well. I love the keys on this sony as you cannot get dirt under them which was also a problem with my old laptop. The battery life is fairly good, but does seem to suddenly drop. I would recommend this laptop ! with a built in webcam it comes wiht everything you need, and is totaly reliable. It has not yet ONCE over heated which was a major problem with my old laptop. I LOVE this laptop, so reliable, easy to use and set up and seems totaly reliable so far, as i needed a reliable laptop for college work :) I recommend a sony laptop.
