Advantages: Fast dual core processor - Large hard drive - Complete with Windows 7 - Easy to connect to internet
Disadvantages: A tad expensive - Rubbish built in webcam - Slightly cramped keyboard
The Sony Vaio NW20SF/S is a truly spectacular laptop. The specifications are magnificent and allow you play high spec games and run demanding software, all with a large 15.5" screen.
---Processor---
the Core 2 Duo processor clocked at 2.2 GHz is remarkably fast, and more than capable to deal with most PC games. I found it could run games like Age of Empires 3 and similarly specced games with ease. I was also able to run some pretty demanding map editing software without any slowdown or freezing. I wouldn't recommend over clocking the processor, however as it overheats very easily.
---RAM---
The 4GB of RAM (random access memory) is more than enough to run multiple applications at once. It is high speed (800 MHz clock) and is DDR2 meaning it'll be very reliable. Windows 7 requires around half a gigabyte and when I'm running a game, an instant messenger and some graphics software I still have 1.5GB free. ReadyBoost is available if you feel you need extra memory, though I doubt you will.
---Operating System---
Windows 7 works exceptionally well and benefits from the improved task bar or 'dock' at the bottom. It requires a mere 512MB to run and runs like a dream, unlike its predecessor Windows Vista.
---Hard Drive---
The NW20SF/S comes complete with an internal 320GB HDD. This should be plenty for most people; however you can buy external storage if you feel it isn't big enough.
---Keyboard & Touchpad---
The keyboard is a little cramped for my liking, and doesn't fill the complete width of the system. Despite this, it's still pretty easy to use and this is only really a problem when typing for extended periods. The touchpad is very tactile and responsive, no problems here.
---Display---
The widescreen 15.5" TFT monitor is more than large enough and like all Sony Vaios the screen as a certain glow to it. I love the glossy look of it and Sony have really out done themselves here.
---Other---
The Wireless card quickly finds your local area network and does its job well. The graphics card supplied is integrated and also works well without overheating. The webcam supplied is very poor (0.3 megapixels) and the resolution is only 640x480, not really worth using unless you have to as the quality is pretty poor.
---Verdict---
Overall the Vaio NW20SF/S is a very capable laptop from Sony. The major pitfall is the price - £600+ is quite a lot of money. For a Vaio packed with features that price isn't that high of an ask though, and you do get quite a lot for your money, including solid build quality. I was very impressed by this laptop and I think it's well deserved a 9/10 (5 stars)
