Sony Vaio GRT915M
Vaio laptop with excellent screen and good build quality. (336 words)by Gareth Young - written on 23/03/08

ports (only 2 of which are 2.0 I think). The on-board wireless networking is useful and works well, other features that I ve not used include firewire and a Sony memory stick drive. The lack of a serial port could annoy some users. I ve also set this up with a Linux kernel - difficulties here involve changing the brightness of the display (done in XP by specialist sony software) and changing the volume (for the same reasons). I had to NDISwrap the wireless driver to get that to work. The 0.5 gig of RAM is reasonable, but annoyingly comes in 2x256M modules so you have to change both to get more memory. and when I store my Vaio in its carrying case, I have to remove it. To solve the problem of the ports you might want to buy the optional Sony Vaio Port Replicator: watch your wallet !! Weight: Too Heavy:3,8 Kg (ac adaptor not included). This is a desktop replacement, not a laptop (if you are a frequent-flyer do not buy it, and go for something not more than 2Kgs). Hard disk: Noisy Hard disk :keeps clicking....you might solve the problem by defragmenting periodically your files. Memory: 256 Mb are not enough : you need to buy additional 256Mb to run games properly and to watch DVD without The jog dial is not a va ...
