Advantages: Three year warranty, tough little beasties, excellent quality for the price

Disadvantages: Can't choose when to buy them, hard to get spare parts

It's been a while since I had a Targa Traveller laptop - I think I bought mine about four years ago now (I thought three, but having just checked... no, it was four). Only about £1000 from Lidl at the time, I loved that beast so much. 1GB of RAM - at the time, that was whizzyfast. A graphics card that played Sims 2 and expansions without ever a stumble. Free microphone, headphones and TV tuner. And, just in case anything DID go wrong, a three year warranty.

I ended up using it too. There seems to be a weakness in their on/off button - its built into the case, and over a prolonged period it stops bouncing back out, and stops working. I called the warranty helpline and spoke to a very nice lady who arranged for it to be repaired. I packed it up in a box, it zoomed to Germany, and was back within ten days, good as new.

Battery was around an hour to an hour and a half, depending on what I was doing -I spent many happy days outside in the sun, tapping in to our wireless network.

Sadly though, I am now Targa-less. The laptop had been out of warranty a few months when somebody kicked the bag it was in on a train. Not until I got it home did I realise the damage - my poor baby would no longer turn on. I would have tried to get it repaired but the probled is, as Targa is sold infrequently, it is very hard to get spare parts.

In the end, insurance paid for the laptop. I would happily have bought another Targa, but alas and alack they were not being sold by Lidl at that time and I could not wait.

If you need a laptop, and Lidl have any on sale, get them while you can. These are built to last, and really, how many places offer a free three year warranty that you know?

Summary: Get one if you can!
