Advantages: Specification, Display, CD-RW
Disadvantages: Expensive, Looks, Weight
Packed with features for the price, but the big question is whether or not you really, really need them all. I convinced myself I did, and I'm impressed so far. It's specification is: 1.1ghz Pentium 3 processor 512mb RAM Processor Cache Onboard Enhanced IDE Integrated AGP Graphics 30GB hard drive DVD/CD Rewriter Combined Drive 2 USB ports Firewire port 56k internal modem 14.1 TFT screen Lithium Ion Battery USB Scroll Optical Mouse Carry Case Windows XP Home Edition Microsoft Worksuite 2001 I'd advise to drop by a showroom and see what else they'll throw in on warranties to clinch the deal. After all, they earn about 30% commission, so the chances are they'll offer up something. It goes without saying that this laptop with this specification can handle more or less everything you can throw at it, including the initially infuriating Windows XP operating system. (So far I've had to download drivers for both an Epson 790 printer and my Fujipix 4700 camera. Both are less than three months old!!) It also amazed me how good some games look on it, with Quake 3 playing almost as well as it does on my desktop. I also like the optical mouse that comes with it, and the carry case. Tiny failed me, however, on the home delivery front. First of all, it's rather annoying to talk to a salesperson for half an hour, fill out all the required detail for their financing, heighten your desire to get your hands on it NOW and then be told it will be delivered two weeks on Tuesday. So be prepared. I decided to pay extra for a Saturday delivery, but the driver turned up with the carry case and mouse but no laptop! A few calls to Tiny promised nothing concrete, so I cancelled the order. That caused some activity, and half an hour later they'd managed to locate me a model in my local showroom, brand new and with a 30gb disk as opposed to the 20gb I'd originally been gi
ven. So okay, they sorted it in the end but only after pressure was applied. The laptop isn't the most aesthetically pleasing in the world, but the performance is top-notch and I've had no problems so far. The quality of DVD's is stunning, the CD rewriter is fast and accurate and it seems to maintain a better internet connection than I've ever had (perhaps down to XP). I doubt I'll ever fill the hard disk at 30gb (famous last words) and although it's a Tiny "Own Brand", I'm pretty sure its made by Fujitsu so I'm confident on the build. Saying that, it's a bit on the heavy side but then it is essentially a desktop replacement and makes you wonder how long the desktop will survive. I doubt I'll ever buy the latter when laptops are as good as this.
