I've just bought a Toshiba Satellite 4090XCDT with a Celeron processor. The verdict so far, pretty good. The machine has a great screen, is robust (I cart it around everywhere!) and the internal modem works well at home.

However, it's not all comming up roses in the Toshiba Garden... My machine has a curious glitch and one I'd urge you to test for if you buy one. Basically if you hesitate for too long on a key or press too hard you get three (ttthree) letters in place of one. This is ideal for WWW. addresses but little else! It may just be my machine but please test the keyboard well in the shop if you buy one.

As a final point, it has one of those little button/nodule/nob/nubbin? things that sticks out of the keyboard to control the cursor. You get used to this but you can develop what I am calling "nubbin finger" which involves a slight swelling and roughness - ooer. However, you can just plug and external mouse into the side of the machine which is how I get around it...
