Pros: Good relative system performance; lightweight; well built, Vista capable; Cons: Small track pad; DVD playback will only last a couple of hours; smaller hard disk than most. Overall: The cheapest notebook here, but among the best performing.
Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)

80%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
The Toshiba satellite A110 is ideal for students and for just basic computing. With that said, and out of the way, it is not a very fast computer basically because of the RAM memory of 258 MB and which can be upgraded to 2 GB. So, if you are looking for a computer that can handle multiple heavy software running simultaneously, then I will not really recommend this. But if your aim is to get a system that can handle some simplistic and basic computing, then this is worth taking a closer look at. The hard disk drive storage is nothing to write home about because it is just 40 GB and that is not giving enough leeway for a very heavy file user. It has 3 USB 2.0 ports, the screen size is 15.40 inches with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1280 x 800. If you are a high end gamer, then I would not recommend this system at all because if you do game often, then overheating starts to occur. The plus side I can award it is its lithium ion battery which lasts for a very long time ( when heavy programs and softwares are not being run on it that is). Since it is really targeted towards students, the internet connectivity is really good because it is equipped with IEEE 802.11 b/g for its wireless, and fast Ethernet for the local area network. I am inclined to say this is a fair performing system based on my experience of it. So before you purchase it, really think about your computer needs, and if it by any means match what you are in the market for, by all means go for it.
I brought this laptop about 3 years ago and now it lies in a bin somewhere which is where it belongs because its rubbish, this laptop is honestly terrible and please don't make the same mistake as I did. The laptop although it has great looking stats, is actually a very poor performance laptop, it appears to have a good processor but it is a intel pentium which is renowned for being a slow processor and you should never buy a laptop with a pentium processor unless you constantly want your laptop to crash. In the time I had it the laptop constantly crashed and overheated and i was even playing any games on it and then I found out that it picked up a virus which made it even slower and then I had to fork out £70 to repair it for it only to completely die in the next 2 months. The only good thing about it is that it has a large storage with a sleek design but it is just a shame that its not the same on the inside and is a bit of a let down. The laptop's screen is also very flimsy and can break easily and when i first brought this laptop it cost me around £326 which makes it a complete rip off. Also the laptop is bulky and the same go's for the charger which also overheats-please don't buy this is is truly the worst laptop I've ever owned !!! I really do not recommend and please just don't buy you'll just waste your money-save up and buy a high-spec laptop instead.
I bought the Toshiba Satellite A110 in 2010 for my wife and it's still used now, 5 years later. It runs the premium version of Vista and we have upgraded the memory to boost the performance, by adding to the laptop we have built a good machine but it was a good machine anyway and we have just made it better.
Battery life has always been good. In 5 years I have bought 2 new batteries and a replacement charger so the running costs are not expensive. The Toshiba charges fast and has a series of warnings to remind you when the battery is getting low.
The running speed of the laptop has always been good, there's no sluggish behaviour even when using several programmes at the same time.
Switch on is slow but that is common on Vista machines. Restart is also slow.
Surfing the internet is fast as is streaming, downloading and text input. There is a partial Microsoft Suite standard with the option to expand it.
For a 5 year old laptop this is a good and faithful machine. It has outlived costlier laptops and continues to work to a high standard. It is larger in size than a modern laptop but has a clear and bright screen with keyboard that is a pleasure to type on. The one and only downside for me is the laptop not connecting to either of the wi fi printers because of its age. It will print but always required to be plugged in via a cable.

having used many laptops i will admit A110 195 was the best...
fast, reliable, ergonomic and most of all delicate. Its price is rather low according to what you buy. its been almost 2 years since i bought it and has not shown a single problem...
added to the above, and though it is designed for Win Xp I ve tried Win Vista Ultimate on it an it worked not only fine, excellent id say..... also achieved a total 3,4 at the windows evaluation, very good number for its specifications. finally having expanded the memory by another 512MB(totally 1GB) gave more power than i could thought to my laptop. Ending here i ll telli you only one thing: nero was burning a dvd, zonealarm was full scanning, itunes was on playing and i was surfing the net, Guess what!! all at the same time..... Toshiba for life...... i highly reccomend
