I exaggerate with "magnificent" but this is definitely a really great laptop for the price. Very fast, plenty of memory and from what I can tell the RAM is upgradable, if you decide later to add more. The casing is the textured rough non-shiny kind, so there will be no finger prints or smudges when you use it directly. There is a full-size keyboard. The processor performs really well, as does Windows 7. Wireless connectivity is fine too.
The viewing angles for the screen are a bit restrictive. That is, having the screen tilted slightly further up or down from eye-level makes the colours change. That's not much of a big deal. The USB ports are very close together, so if you have a not-so-slim USB storage device then you may have to make room for it to connect.
Another thing, and I don't know if this is the case for the other buyers, is that occasionally the colour saturation will go down quite far suddenly without reason. The user has to go into the colour settings and nudge it a bit to properly restore the colour each time. It seems to happen if Task Manager is opened or any time there is a warning about 'This program needs your permission to continue'. It's mysterious. It could just be mine.
A mouse is preferable to the touch pad for getting things done much quicker, that's just my preference.
But any way overall, for the price it is a great choice.
I bought this laptop over a year and a half ago and have had no problems with it. I bought the laptop because my desktop was ancient and did not work properly, i use it mainly for work yet i do treat my self to a game on it once in a while!
The 4GB of RAM it has i more than enough for Microsoft word to run smoothly, yet after about a year the laptop started to slow down on start up. Although this might be because of my use of the laptop and what I have on it, but it is worth considering.
The battery life I found was excellent, however it did degrade after excessive use. It is worth noting that to keep the best battery life it must be charged when the battery is nearly completely empty. However this disadvantage happens with many laptops and i think the battery life is very good for the money.
I'm not the richest of people but i think that this is excellent value for money and it good for work (Microsoft Office etc) and leisurely use such as internet browsing etc.
This is a great laptop with good performance and great value and quality build for the money you pay. Really quick start up ,very quite can barely hear it when it is running.
Positive:- solid build, good design, clear screen, very quiet operation, good to have a numeric keypad. The processor which is Intel Core i3-380M Processor and 4GB RAM make him very fast. Good wireless internet card. No issues with the computer hanging. Great webcam quality. I heard other people saying about the speakers are not so good but mine works great. Keyboard and touch pad are working great. No problem with the operating system and software . I would highly recommend this laptop.
Negative:- Has only 2 USB ports which is not very good ,should be minimum 3 . Has a lot of software that is of no use and needs to be unninstaled. Has no led for the hard drive, just the power and battery.
I bought this laptop a few weeks ago and I have not had any problems so far. I think that it is a very affordable and efficient product. It is also pretty fast. The Toshiba Satellite also comes with a webcam attached. Mine came with Windows 8 installed on it, so it was also very up to date. I think that it was definitely worth the money. It is one of the most affordable laptops you will find. This laptop is also backed by a one year warranty, in case anything happens to it. It has a beautiful screen and 4 GB ram. Also, the hard drive is 320 GB, which should be plenty of space to store your documents and files. I think that you would find this laptop to be a great investment. I would recommend it to anyone searching for a good deal and a fast computer.
This Laptop is the definition of Value for money, i managed to purchase it for the bargain price of £329, and when you consider it has a powerful 2.53ghz processor, 15.6" Screen, add to that it has 4GB of ram, and you have a super smooth computer, which can handle simultaneousness tasks, effortlessly, i won't bore you with the technical details as they can be seen above, they are all very impressive.
My main concern when buying this laptop was whether it would be powerful enough to run some games, it comes with integrated Intel HD Graphics, but it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, such as Nvidia or Radeon, so as you can imagine i was apprehensive when i popped in my Sims 3 disk... But to my surprise, it played without any problems, smooth and crisp, with no excessive loading or lag, it also has no problems with video, handling 1080p youtube video's with no problem whatsoever (something which would freeze my old acer laptop)
It comes with the Windows 7 64bit operating system (a huge improvement on the dreadful vista) and everything just works, you open the box, the laptop loads up, and around 20 minutes later, it is up and running, everything really is so simple, it has no problems finding wifi, browsing the internet is a smooth, fast experience, you very rarely encounter any freezing or stuttering when loading even the most data intensive of web pages.
This Laptop is ideal for anyone wishing to edit their videos, programs such as Sony Vegas, Cyberlink power director and corel video studio all work seamlessly, i just download the trials because i'm cheap like that, but for anyone who is interested in video editing, this machine won't let you down, Also, for anyone who wishes to video chat with relatives or friends via skype, i have tried this a few times and it has worked flawlessly, it comes with an in-built 0.3mp camera which doesn't sound particularly great, but the picture surprisingly is very clear and not laggy at all, in comparison to the camera on the Google Nexus 7, which is 1.2 mp but far less clear and much laggier, so don't pay to much attention to the numbers, the 0.3mp webcam is very good.
And finally the sound is very clear and crisp, the speakers are situated on the front of the device, just above the keyboard and they resemble scart sockets, they could of been designed slightly better in my opinion, but hey, i'm not complaining, this laptop is perfect for just about anyone, sure you could get a more expensive, powerful machine, but for an all rounder, this can not be beaten.
Thank you for reading my review.
ive had this laptop almost 1 year, i purchased it second hand but it was like brand new. ive no complaints or anything bad to say about it. the weight of the laptop is good its not too heavy and is easy to carry around. the screen is 15.6" and is good for watching movies and online tv programmes etc. i found it easy to use and was able to get the hang of it straight away. its fast whilst surfing the net and good download speed. ive always liked toshiba products and i would definatly buy another toshiba product as i think there very good and reliable. its great value for money and i dont think you will be dissapointed if you purchase this laptop. also it has a great RAM capacity. it is great for playing games and has plenty storage for downloads and stuff. i would deffinatly recomend this product
If you're looking for an affordable multimedia laptop that's been built to last then take a look at the Toshiba Satellite Pro C660; it's one of our best value all-round boxes, perfect for surfing the net, watching movies and doing work. This laptop is evidence that home computing can be simple and fun - it's not crammed full of features youll never use, its just got exactly what you need to work and play at home. This Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 is ideal for people looking to get online and stay entertained both at home and at university, and at this price it's a bargain!
I bought this laptop exactly two years ago for about 530 pounds and so far I have nothing bad to say about it. The box includes the manual and the 1 year warranty which I did not have to use. It has a bright 15.6" screen which is perfect for a regular use and also for watching videos on full screen. the product's finishing is really nice and you can feel a cool asymmetrical pattern of little squares on the surface all over the laptop. The keyboard is great including the numeric part at the right which is very handy if you need to type lots of numbers. The keys feel durable and they have turned out to be this way since I have not had any issues with them popping off. They include options to change the brightness of the screen, something I find really useful as my eyes get tired of long hours seating in front of the screen.
The pad is slightly towards the left I think to make it easier for most right handed people but I honestly find it normal and easy to get used to. The speakers are built on above the keyboard and they really sound good. It had installed a home premium version of windows 7 which I think is enough for what I do with it.
With regards to the hardware, I love the fact that it has a 4 GB RAM which allows you to do an infinite amount of tasks at the same time without the laptop even feeling it. The processor is quite good as well, even if it is not deemed to be the best like an i7. It works great and for instance for skyping the video plays smoothly and the speakers sound does not interfere at all with the microphone even if it is relatively close to it.
Overall I think it was a very good investment and for the money it cost now I think you characteristics of more expensive ones. I would definitely recommend it.
I am not a computer genius but I would hope that this review will assist a decision somewhere along the line. I love my laptop - it was my first experience of Windows 7 and I have found it hard work to fathom initially but now I wouldn't be without it.
I have to admit the laptop did not do what I had purchased it for - I am a massive Sims fan and wanted to get Sims 3 and my old laptop just didn't have the capabilities. I bought this thinking with the AMD Radeon Graphics Card I would be able to use the Toshiba Satellite but no it just isn't good enough but that hasn't disappointed me as much as you might think.
The storage capacity of my laptop is 320gb and i haven't had any problems needing more space. I have a gazillion photos, thousands of tunes and apps and still have plenty of room! The built in Toshiba platform for help and security is helpful but I did tend to close it on the tool bar and only open open at scheduled times.
The look of the laptop is pretty standard but what disappointed me most was that the silver on the mouse pad has come off in a short space of time leaving it looking old and shabby a lot sooner than I had anticipated.
I should really boast the 15.6" HD display and energy efficient capabilities as well as 6gb of RAM to ensure speedy performance at all times. The overall performance of the laptop tops all of my expectations.
As I said I am not an expert - all I can tell you is what I have personally experienced.
I purchased this laptop and it was solidly built, although it was built using a Pre Service Pack 1 image - so that was different large download needed. A amount of "packages" installed - to try and make you to apply them - they did mostly uninstall.
I have had to give the unit as the wireless card/software would not perform at a speed of greater than 72mbs - whilst the card is supposed to be able to get to 300mbs - this one seems unable to perform, compared to other laptops that do execute. Will not be an issue to most, unless you are connecting to other PCs in the network - then you could see the issues that I did.
Its a pity that Toshiba who have had comments on their forums for months about this do not seem to have a solution for this. Used 3 versions of the drivers, initial ones, updated from Toshiba and then further updated from Realtek but none were able to resolve the operation issues
Amazon were great with customer services .
i always fond of Toshiba products especially when it comes to laptops. my first laptop was Toshiba but I thought of buying the new one. without wasting much time i decided to pick Toshiba brand laptop.
my work is simple: writing and handling some picture and video editingsfor some companies. i need a computer which suits to my need. Toshiba C660-155 was my choice. i do not need so called high tech laptop so that core i3 is enough. but with 320 GB storage, i can store my writings, pictures, and videos more.
the screen is also cofortable for me to work more than 5 hours in a day. the sound is clear and it's not slow any at all. however, for tougher tasks you might need to choose laptop with higher processor and RAM. you can add extra RAM for faster work. in order to get this, you can easily ask the technician in Toshiba store when you fitst buy it.
The Toshiba Satellite C660-155 laptop is amazing! Fast processor. Massive storage. Good webcam. The list goes on! I am writing this review on it now haha :)
My last laptop was a Toshiba too not quite sure of the model but I had it for about 4 years before it decided to die and instead of getting it repaired I decided I needed to upgrade, and believe me I am so glad I did!
This laptop has an Intel I3 Core processor and believe me when I say it is fast, it really is! Especially for the price too it is super good value.
The massive 320GB hard drive is more than enough storage I need to store all of my photos, music, videos and programs I have installed onto my laptop with room to spare :) The 4GB ram is definitely adequate for the amount of programs I have running at once and I can switch between them very quickly and easily with no fear of the laptop freezing or hanging between opening programs like previous laptops I have owned.
The webcam is great too very good quality and easy to use it doesn't require you to even switch the webcam on or mess about with installing software in order to get it working. It works well on Skype and the microphone is very good quality too if used for recording. You can take photos with the webcam and record video too by clicking on the Web Camera Application which is easy to find and is good to pin to your taskbar for ease of accessibility and they are saved into your documents in a folder you can specify.
There is very good sound from the speakers which isn't distorted when the volume is turned up, even to maximum. The keyboard is well spaced out and the keys are easy to press and big enough to press even if you have fat fingers haha :) Although I don't use the the Number Pad that often it is useful when typing up sums or numbers but obviously the Num Pad isn't specific to this laptop.
The touch pad has a great feel to it and the buttons used to click (don't know if there's a technical name for them) are quite large and make it easy to click on what you want on the screen. Also the touch pad can be tapped to click too as with many other laptops, but if you prefer not to have this it can be deactivated easily.
The Operating System is Windows 7 and is a massive improvement on my previous laptop that had Windows Vista and it was very very slow! The features of Windows 7 do make a massive improvement to the laptop as a whole and makes everything run a lot smoother.
There are 2 USB ports and they are positioned on the left hand side. This means that as I have a mouse plugged in the cable has be stretch around the back of the laptop to the right side as I am right handed. If you had a mouse and the cable wasn't very long then this may be more of a problem. Also, if you are using quite a large USB cable or device that is plugged in e.g. a SD card reader it can be hard to fit anything else in the USB slot next to it. Also the power cable is plugged in on the right hand side, although this doesn't cause a massive problem I think it would be a lot better if it was plugged in at the back of the laptop.
The overall look of the laptop is simple and stylish and looks very professional if you are using it for business purposes.
I love this laptop i nought this laptop when my old advent broke and i am amazed by it speeds and graphics. I can play a wide range of games that came with the laptop as well as pc games. It is very fast with loading the internet and easy to use. The screen is wide but that is what i wanted as we watch films on here so its perfect for that use as well as been big it isn't too heavy either. The battery last a while i thing around 3-4 hours and it tells you how long you have left time wise on the battery. The programes are windows 7 which is very fast at loading also it has sticky notes which is handy as it is small and can be displayed any where on the screen, which can your message or things you want to remember. The picture quality is very good too very clear and crisp picture, the speaker are not very lound so may recommend buying additional speakers.
Writing this review on the very laptop it concerns, the Toshiba Satellite C660 is an affordable workhorse. The modern i3 core means this laptop can cope with the general use that most people now expect form a laptop, with more to spare for casual gaming. The 4gb of ram is adequate for these tasks too, and the 64 bit version of windows squeezes the most out of it. My first impressions were of how quiet the laptop was, but after more use the fan is used more frequently, but the noise is still much lower then other laptops I have used. The battery life is around 3 hours conservatively, which is pretty average. The HD screen is bright and easily cleaned. There is also a ten digit number pad which is sometimes neglected in this price range of laptop.
Unfortunately the plastic finish on the laptop may not be to some peoples taste; I feel it is fine and it is not made badly, but other laptops around this price range do have a more aesthetically pleasing finish. The webcam is nothing to write home about at 0.3mp, and although there is a multi-card reader inbuilt, only having 2 usb ports can get frustrating and you may need to purchase an additional hub. The speakers play well and loud enough for laptop standards.
Overall, this laptop is fantastic for just general use; do not expect to play any intensive games on it but it can certainly cope with what most people would throw at it. Toshiba are also a brand known for reliability, and the Satellite series have good press so far with regards to breakages or malfunction. Look out for this laptop if under £375.
With a collect and return warranty, the C660 isn't terrible value when viewed alone. Its battery also lasted well over five hours in our light-use test, beating virtually every other 15.6in laptop at this price. However, it also has a smaller hard disk and fewer USB ports than many rivals plus it lacks an HDMI port. Even if battery life is important to you, there are better buys than the C660
