Advantages: Works fast, good screen size

Disadvantages: No hdmi or bluetooth

My Other Half bought himself a new laptop for Christmas and I have been having a go on it to get myself familiar with it. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C660D and it has a 15.6 inch screen. The processor in it is an AMD Fusion E-300 although what exactly this means is above my head. The hard drive is 320 GB which should be plenty for him to use to keep his big music collection on.

As for using it, the laptop cover has a nice rough feel to it on the top cover which makes it so it doesn't slip out of your hand easily when picking it up. It is quite lightweight to pick up. It is running Windows 7 which is new to both of us but was not that hard to master after using computers for years on end.

The keyboard looks very smart, there is a recessed space in the centre of the board with the keys being in this indent. This makes it quite nice on your hands when typing. The keys are set out like on a normal keyboard with the numerical pad at the right hand side which is different to our last lap top. The keys are quite large though and it is easy to type on it. The mouse pad is smooth to touch and the response is good so it makes it easy to get around the screen with the mouse.

The sound is quite good through the speaker, we can listen to something on it without having to turn the volume right up and it is even better with head phones attached.

The laptop comes with face recognition for security when you start up instead of having to log in. This was quite a hassle to get it to work, only my Other Half has it set up as he will be using this one more than me. But once it was set up it works well, he said he feels a bit silly though I expect we all look the same when looking at our computer screens if we could see ourselves.

The laptop has wireless connectivity which was easy to set up to add it to our home network. We found it easy then to go through on to our old laptop to copy over the music files we had on there.

He was a bit disappointed that his computer didn't have blue tooth connectivity like my new one but he can live with it. We can always send the files to my laptop via the network and then use my blue tooth. Another thing he hadn't noticed until yesterday was that it doesn't have the capability of connecting to the hdmi on the tv like my one does. It doesn't seem to have many outer connections at all, just two usb ports, headphones, microphone, one which looks like it might be a screen connection, one for the network if we was using a wire and thats about it.

He uses the laptop mostly for music as in making up cds to play in the car while he is driving. The cd writer works nicely and seems to be quite fast at doing it and the cds that have been made are working fine.

The picture on the screen is nice, we have watched some tv programmes on it which were on BBC Iplayer and the picture quality on them was excellent.

The whole machine works nice and fast up to the way our old one used to slog along. It starts up in no time and is quick to log off at the end of the day.

That's all I can think of that you might want to know before buying a laptop, I hope it would help someone choose if this is for you.
