Advantages: Not very expensive

Disadvantages: Not very flashy

I have had the Toshiba Satellite L30-113 laptop for 2 years now and it has worked well. I bought it because it was a good offer at PC world for a laptop of that spec. It is not flashy but looks smart in black. The screen is good and clear and bright.

The Toshiba onscreen startup processes are a bit longwinded and there is more waiting around for things to load than I would like.

It has Vista preinstalled which takes up quite a lot of the HDD space and contributes to the waiting around. I would have preferred XP. My son tried Back-Track which is a stripped down Linux based OS which he ran on a USB pen. This made the machine much quicker, but there seemed to be a conflict with Microsoft's Vista, so he gave up using it.

We have been using it on a local wireless network so it was good that it was wireless network ready.

My son is constantly downloading games and this and that, but the Tosh has put up with all his abuse and has done everything that has been asked of it.

It has been kept on the floor, but only has 1 scratch on the fairly soft plastic of the lid. It has been versatile and useful and has not gone wrong. A better, quicker processor would make it better.

Summary: Useful and reliable and does what it is asked to do.
