I have had the Toshiba Satellite L30-113 laptop for 2 years now and it has worked well. I bought it because it was a good offer at PC world for a laptop of that spec. It is not flashy but looks smart in black. The screen is good and clear and bright. The Toshiba onscreen startup processes are a bit longwinded and there is more waiting around for things to load than I would like. It has Vista preinstalled which takes up quite a lot of the HDD space and contributes to the waiting around. I would have preferred XP. The Toshiba L40 seems to come in a variety of different models, each with different specs within the same outer casing. I have what seems to be the lowest end model, which on paper is just about good enough to run Windows Vista. The build quality of this laptop is reasonably good, with no bit s falling off and it all appearing to be in one (relatively) solid piece. Having a 15.4 inch widescreen display, which is common in laptops nowadays, means that this is by no means a portable machine, although Toshiba appear to have tried to reduce the size with no overly large border around the display which would add unnecessary bulk. Toshiba Satellite M40-265

I have owned two of these lap tops for about 3 years now. They are both the 1.73 GHz processor speed version. They are the Satellite Pro M40. I should say "were" because one of them mal functioned so much and so often that I had to scrap it. Talking about the one that I still have and which is still "alive"............. It has 3 USB ports, a touch pad integral mouse and didn t come with any pre-loaded Microsoft Application Package Software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc). I have now installed my own software.
