One of the best laptops ever. These days it's a bit out of date, but it still has something to say. Of course basic components (processor, RAM, HDD) are way too old (and slow, small) for new software, but they are working and reliable even now about 14 years after purchasing. With only 1 bad pixel, about 90 minutes battery lifetime (yes, I am talking about the original old battery), and no system-crashes (with Win ME installed) and still being able to play Age of Empires 2, Worms Armageddon, or running Xitami server+php+MySQL for my university projects, I think, this is the best laptop ever!
Not to mention sound system, hardware sound card with hardware volume-wheel (the wheel does not control volume in Windows, it controls hardware volume) are something, that owners of new laptops can only dream about, not to mention fact, that connecting output to the amplifier and 200W speakers did not result in noisy pseudo-music (as did some new laptops), but the sound was still clear, from bass to treble. Also built-in speakers are pretty cool, you wouldn't say, that a laptop can play so clearly.
Disadvantages are only matter of time - at it's prime time, about 3,5kg wasn't so much and 1 USB port was completely enough.
I use a Satellite Pro 490XCDT (64mb, w/32mb extension) for 8 years now (second hand!) with win98 installed on it. I believe the laptop must be som 12, 13 years old by now. It still works! I don't use it often, sometimes it's for months in the case, but lately I've been using it daily to do some typing while commuting to and fro work. I'm astounished by the batterylife, it still holds for 1,5 hours, when charged. If you don't use it, it gets flat in a day or two. The system must be one of the toughest laptops ever. I've seen new laptops die much earlier, this isn't retired even ;-) One big disadvantage: the Start button is in the right upper corner. This is from the MSDOS era!!!
