Advantages: Looks nice, was pretty easy to set up
Disadvantages: Everything else. Complete rip off
Now, I'm no expert on computers, I don't claim to be and I have little interest in beccoming an expert, so this review may well lack the "technical" terms and experience, but... I have had this computer for 2 years, so my opinion has to be worth something right!?
Let me start from the begining, I purchased my Toshiba A60 laptop from PC world in January '05. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. All blue and pretty and quite bulky and retro looking. Adding to that there was a lot of good qualities to it. The numbers seemed pretty high and decent for the ghz, ram, hd etc. As you can see I really am not a computer whizz! Adding to that the very handsome sales assistant had a certain way of making me believe I could not live without this laptop, perhaps if he had been less pretty I wouldn't have brought it... who knows!
So I purchased the laptop within about 10 minutes of seeing it, I'm an impulse buyer! I paid £899 for it and I paid in cash. I went home with a big smile on my face and got it out of its box and gazed at it for a while. I was only 17 when I got it and I had been working part time amoungst college for ages to save for it, so I was dead proud I finally had a good reliable computer to work with for all my college work and would not have to keep sharing with my brother and parents on the main computer.
The setup was easy, Plug in the plugs needed, turn on and you are basically there. I played about with it for a bit and then left it alone. I used the computer mainly for college work from there on in. The computer started crashing ALL THE TIME from when I had owned it for around 3 months. I was going to go back to the shop with it, but then it started behaving itself. I never thought about it before, but when I worked on another persons laptop I realised my ones fan is SO noisy. To add to that the keys have randomly fallen out at times and two of the USB ports randomly fell out. None of this bothered me too much, I could still use the last USB port and I never really used more than one so I just ignored it (stupid I know).
Then in Febuary of this year when I plugged it in red sparks shot out at me. Now I knew there was no water in the system so I was fairly confused why this was happening. The copmputer seemed to cause me nothing but hassle since I got it and I had saved for over a year just to buy it. I extended my warrenty to 3 years as I had only just gone over it and sent it back. They repared the problem and it turns out the power connecter which slides into the power supply and connects to the mother board had come out. This is NOT normal. Speaking to people who deal with computers, they had never come accross anything like it before and said it must have been so poorly made for this to happen.
Whilst it was gone the USB ports were fixed for me and it was brought back in working order pretty quickly. I was only without it for around 3 days once it left although I had been unable to use it due to the red hot sparks for around 3 months already. The fan is still loud, the laptop is slow, unreliable, crashes at random, overheats, doesnt last as long as it statews when it is not plugged in and is generally rubbish.... I would have liked to have used a different word there.
I was so upset, the laptop has caused me a lot of greif and I brought it so young and it took so much to buy it at that age that it was an awful time for me. I feel very dissapointed in the quality of the product as well as the customer support.
I wish to god I had never brought this laptop and PLEASE never purchase one of your own. They are absolutely awful. I will never ever buy another toshiba laptop again, I don't care if the other products they have don't have these problems I am a million percent put off by this experience and their lack of support.
Summary: Never ever even consider this laptop

Quote from your review.
Anyway you could have got it fixed, if they were unable to have it fixed you would have got a refund.
You can always get the money back.
Go look up the "Sale of Goods" act.
The product has to work, as stated, for a reasonable amount of time.
Since it has never worked right and still doesnt you may be able to claim for it.
Youl have to look into it though as its getting close to 2 years |
