Toshiba Laptop
This laptop is currently my girlfriends but often when she is out I have to use it for various things including coursework and other general usages. Recently I probably use it more than her so I thought I would review it from my opinion as an IT student.
At first glance it is already obvious that the laptop is a pretty low specification you can see this from the 160 GB hard drives that are really giving 73 and 74 GB respectively which is not making the claimed 160 gigabytes. It also has a processer that is only 2 GHZ although it is not as bad as you can get on some laptops.
For the initial purchase period and for quite a while the laptop performs really well and quite frankly you cannot fault it for anything and you're quite pleased with your purchase, however eventually it starts to slow down. The computer eventually gets slower and slower and you start to wonder why because you're not doing anything differently. I did everything on this computer to get it to perform how you would expect a laptop of this specification to doing things such as scanning for virus' removing unnecessary toolbars and a full PC health check and clean up to no avail.
The screen of the laptop is not bad for a laptop screen it's a fairly standard looking 1280 x 800 monitor, it's nothing special but gets the picture across satisfactorily for the average user. The other annoyance with this is it game installed with Vista instead of XP which as anyone who has ever used Vista or who has a knowledge on PC's will know is this is a nightmare.
Where I believe the problem lies. The Toshiba hard drive comes with two hard drives, I believe what is done is one hard drive is the boot drive and has all the data required to go through the BIOS and start the computer and the other has all your My pictures, My videos etc. and is the default save spot for them but obviously once you fill this section of the drive then you start to save things to the other drive. As you start to fill the "boot drive" every time the computer is starting up it is having to search harder and taking longer to find the necessary files it needs to start.
In summary I would not say an ideal laptop however if it just being used for small word processing tasks and web browsing then this laptop should perform fine it is just when it becomes very full with lots of data.
One last thing I'll mention Is the chargers are awful and I think we have been through about three of them so far.
