Advantages: Portable, good screen size for travelling.
Disadvantages: No volume dial.
Bought this after my 17 inch screen toshiba became to combersome for travelling to meetings on the train. Unable to secure reservations due to differing travel times meant that it was not always possible to get a seat with a table, a must for all users wanting to take huge computers around with them. Its i3 processor is the smallest of the new processors although for what I use this laptop for it copes well. 320gb allows me to store all of my work stuff aswell as my music collection. The portability means that it easily fits into my bag and it's battery lasts for most of the journeys I have to complete unlike my older laptop.
This laptop is very lightweight and looks smart with its rough textured look. The keys are spaced ideally for fast typers like myself and the mouse pad is smooth and not oversensitive like some of the models I tried out in the store. One downsides is that the laptop doesn't come with a sound dial, you have to use the function (fn) button to select the volume level which took some getting used to at first. Embarrasing when you findthis out for the first time on the 'quiet' coach of a train and scrammble to cover the speakers as it blurs out your favourite tracks.
Windows 7 gives a user friendly operating system much like that of XP which I found far better and easier to use than the vista operating system. Things seem to be in a logical place with this operating system which means you do not have to waste time trying to look for programms and settings.
The laptop has wireless connectivity which was easy to set up to add it to my home network. All that was required were a few clicks and it was all running smoothly.
The product does not come with restore disks, this is something that you have to create yourself. Beware of having something to back up your computer to. This laptop have over 20gb to back up just to create a restore, well worth it though in case you ever need to wipe the laptop totally.
Don't be talked into taking out the policies offered in store just to recieve a discount. I was offered a £100 reduction if I signed up to a cover policy which would give me less cover then my house insurance does and at a cost of £15 a month, plus an optional 'cloud space' charge of £10 a month. Each of these would have been for a period of 24 months. I'd rather pay the full price now then anything extra. The money saved by not taking out the policy can fund my next laptop!
Compared to my older, larger machine this one is much faster as that was a centrino dual core despite having the same amount of memory available. All together a good buy.
