Toshiba Satellite L40-14Y ... Toshiba L40 seems to come in a variety of different models, each with different specs within the same outer casing. I have what seems to be the lowest end model, which on paper is just about good enough to run Windows Vista. The build quality of this laptop is reasonably good, with no bit s falling off and it all appearing to be in one (relatively) solid piece. Having a 15.4 inch widescreen display, which is common in laptops nowadays, means that this is by no means a portable machine, although Toshiba appear to have tried to reduce the size with no overly large border around the display which would add unnecessary bulk. Toshiba Equium P200D 139 ... past year. Intro: Mine came from Currys online refurbished laptops sale for 299 GBP in June 2008. It turned out that it actually has not been used, had only been opened as a test machine, still had foil on, etc. The criteria for a laptop were as follows: * big screen * at least 2GB RAM (memory) * good and fast processor (no preference to brands/types) * pleasant look As you can obviously guess Toshiba Equium P200D ticks all of those boxes:) In the meantime it turned out it is really good for watching movies on that 17inch screen and reasonably good for games. Toshiba Satellite Pro L40-12S ... is the laptop I am typing from now, and for me it has outshone my expectations of it by some way. I bought this laptop a bit over a year ago and I think it was very cheap, about £350. For this price I was not expecting much in the way of performance or longevity however this laptop has defied the principle of more money, more ram means better. It does not have the best of specs, however it handles most applications perfectly fine. The only thing that it has a problem with The Sims, however this seems to be more of a general compatibility issue with windows vista.
