      • "limited and non-upgradable memory"

A very square box - assembled in China for the Japanese Brother Corp. (makers of a peculiar array of items from sewing machines to labellers etc.). For its purchase and consumables price, the Brother is hard to beat. It's easy to use, pleasant to look at and reasonably cheap to run. Pros: Reasonable text quality, average graphics quality, convenient paper tray and single feed + straight through facility, easy to adjust software with tray settings, easy setup, average print noise, reasonable footprint, USB and parallel connections, simple display and consumables change. Cons: non-ugradable memory sometimes slows printing down, can run out of memory on complex print jobs, no onscreen indication of toner life, thin print (works virtually as well @ 25% toner savings), rear straight access requires space. Overall: easily obtainable consumables at a lower price than most competitors make this a good value purchase (especially on 6000 sheet toner cartridges). This printer is simple, convenient and easy to use. Easy to set up within minutes, quiet and efficient - this machine has newer rivals - but few combine its relativeely reasonable consumable costs with easy availability. Service and support from Manchester is efficient and helpful.
