Advantages: Ease of use, uncomplicated machine

Disadvantages: Not much good for heavy office use

As this section of dooyoo shows, there are a seemingly endless array of PC printers currently on the market, with many probably not included. The quality varies, but with the Brother HL 2035 black and white laser printer, you are buying into a well-known brand leader supported by an extensive product back up network.

As PC printers go, it would be fair to say that many mono laser type machines are not necessarily highly complex arrangements, and technology evolution tends to ensure that simplicity is the watch word, which means less chance of faults occurring later on in the machine's life time.

The Brother HL 2035 is more specifically designed for relative (or, actual) newcomers to using laser printers; I think it is a good model for home use, including for people who use the home as their work station. This machine, being fairly compact, takes up very little of your table space thus leaving room for other office type essentials. Of course, size really matters when one considers that these machines are completely governed by paper size, with A4 being industry standard; the Brother HL 2035 features a large flap adjacent to the top to hold the paper, and also to stop it moving around when the machine is in operational mode. After printing, the completed work is then deposited into the depressed inset on the top.

The machine also features handy indicator lights, which lets the user know when the toner is low, when the printer drum is no longer functional, function 'ready' situation and if any paper jams have occurred. Replacement and set up of these essential parts is easy, as one merely opens the front cover to ensure that cartridge and drum slide in easily. The machine required little in the way of compatible software to operate and covers all the main makers including MS and Linux. Speed wise, this thing is capable of doing about 16-18 pages per minute, dependent on conditions and good maintenance by the owner. Prices vary between about £75 and £90, so it's worth shopping around.

I cannot make up my mind whether or not to treat myself to a laser printer. I would like one that also prints in colour. Still a bit too pricey at the moment. Very good review all the same.
