The HL-2240D is one of quite a few printers I work with. The tray holds 250-sheets of paper and prints in black and white, which is fine for what I use it for, printing off letters and labels. Compared to older laser printers which are huge and take up a lot of space, the HL-2240D is pretty neat and compact measuring 14 inches long X 14 inches wide X 7 inches high. It's not much to look at, because apart from some small LEDs and one button on the front, and being black/grey in colour it's a pretty emotionless looking machine. That being said though, it doesn't look out of place and in fact fits in nicely in an office environment.
Printing a single page from turning the machine on, warming up, to the page being printed takes approx 18 seconds. After it's warmed up it'll print a page roughly every 10 seconds. If the auto duplex printing is enabled it takes double the time to print a page.
Print quality is very good for letter printing and simple stuff like that. When it comes to printing graphics such as charts I'm not so happy with the quality of the print. It's hard to differentiate between different shades which can leave the print looking like a bit of a blob if you don't know what it is you're looking at. This is a mono printer though so if you want to print high quality graphics then you shouldn't be using it in the first place!
All in all This is a fine little printer for printing the basic things. It's very reliable and runs quietly.
The Brother HL 2240D is a printer that is used within my work place. It is a fast, efficient and relatively quiet laser printer which is ideal for use within the work place or home office.
In work I use the Brother HL 2240D mainly for printing letters and multiple page reports. One excellent feature of the printer is it is able to print on both sides of a sheet of paper automatically.
The printer is a decent size and a lot smaller than the other, albeit older, laserjet printers we have within the office. It is easy enough to set up, instructions are straight forward and anyone with even basic computing skills should be able to set this item up within a matter of minutes.
The only disadvantage I found with this printer is an obvious one, it is a monochrome printer, for those who dont have much experience with using printer this means it only prints one colour. The reason I say this is a disadvantage is it makes it less sutible for home use, unless you are like me and only really use your printer for printing letters etc.
At home I use an inkjet printer which is loud and often snatches at the paper ruining the documents. As I never use my home printer for colour printing I would definately consider switching to this model of printer.
At a price of just over £100 this printer is a steal. i would definately say it is good value for money!
