I have this model printer installed at work, and as a general all round printer it is very good.
It has automatic duplex as standard which is helpful as I am useless with the manual duplexing, I can never get my head round which way the sheet of paper has to be put in to print correctly. I have to print out a lot of reports that eventually just get stored and duplexing them cuts down on the paper that is used, which in turn cuts costs.
A second tray is available to purchase although at around £100 it is quite expensive. We print a lot using letterhead and need a second tray for the carbon sheet as well as the aforementioned reports.
On average I'd say the toner and drums last about six months although I wouldn't say my printer has really heavy use, probably more like moderate. The toner is expensive (what toner isn't?) but I now use the compatible brands to cut costs, if you search around the internet you can get some good deals.
We bought this printer around a year ago and have had very good service from it. It is connected to our SuSE Linux server as a USB peripheral and can be accessed by all of our MS Windows machines as a shared printer (PPD file was installed locally on each machine - pretty much a standard printer setup). It has never printed a bad page and we are still on the original toner cartridge. Good value monochrome printer.
