      reliable everyday printer

This is a nice little printer (mono). It fits easily on top of a cupboard or filing cabinet. It is very quiet, so much so that I have to check that it is switched on before I use it; this was important when I was comparing printers as it sits right beside me.

The print quality is very good, and it prints fast once it has warmed up (24ppm). I have had no problems in the year that I have been using this printer. I have never had a paper jam (so don't know if they are easy to clear, but the print path is simple so it should be OK).

The cartridge which comes with the printer should do 2000 pages but I am still using the original cartridge after a year. Replacement cartridges are 3500 or 7000 pages. You can print onto labels and envelopes by using the manual tray.

The only down side is that it does not come with a USB cable yet Brother will only support it if you are using a USB cable! You can use a parallel cable.

It works with Vista 64 which older printers don't. Drivers are included for all the common operating systems (Window, Apple, Linux)
